I fucking love how many posts this thread has. Amazing. For the Sanchez supporters, do you see him succeeding this year? He has once again been put into a position to fail. I like the additions at running back and I believe the offensive line is above average. BUT..we all know our receving core is absolutely pathetic. This offense is going no where.
that's just not true, Bill Walsh couldn't have done anything w/ the healthy talent we had last year and we lost equally w/ our collapses on D as we did w/ failure on O in 2011. He had Chad off of TWO major shoulder surgeries on his rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder and we made the playoffs w/ him like that. We had a good OC, now SL does. I am excited about Marty but that doesn't change what Brian did for us.
If Sanchez had not had 15 potential interceptions dropped in 2010, leading the NFL by a wide margin, we're not having any of this discussion at this point. Give him the number of dropped interceptions of his next closest competitors, at 9, and his 2010 numbers are 17 TD's 19 Ints and no extension in 2011 and out the door after 2012.
Bogus stat, I saw every throw, he had a few that could have been picked as any QB does but nothing out of the ordinary and do we count the 2 INTs credited to him that should not have been? how about dropped passes and dropped TDs?
Yeah, I see him succeding this year. And I'll put it out there right now, in a major way. Go back and watch the game Sparano called in St.louis. Marty calls that game on steroids. Schotty had two major issues, probably because of when he learned the game. Calling long developing outside pass plays, and under utilizing explosive talent.(leon anyone?) The whole sports media, is going to act shocked when it happens, but the problems with this offense for the last several years have been obvious. Especially the last two. Oooh, Sanchez doesnt play well with pressure from the right side...WFH, and then Howard learning on the Job? No shit. Schotty refused to play inside, and Sparano refused to throw to the backs. Its that simple. MM is going to play a game that will dump the ball off to the backs, utilize slants, and the slot...and then go down and out, which Sanchez does well. He will also get Sanchez OUT OF THE FUCKING POCKET, which is something he does well, and was never utilized. No, sprints, no designed roll outs, no making the defense defend all 11 players, except for attacking the pocket. When the media acts surprised, remember where you heard it first. The media is lazy, they generally talk about players, but seldom discuss the context they play in, especially if that context mitigates negatives. Simms, is one of the few that points out those things. And I will go one further, if, that happens, and the Jets resist the temptation to give Geno away, he'll be even better, when Sanchez is gone, and this coaching staff will remain in place for a very long time. This team is missing building blocks for the next decade that will be obtained in the next two drafts. (holmes replacement, ol help, and a safety and a LB) The foundation of this team, is fairly solid. Its the roof thats leaky.
When you take into consideration that he was coming off an injury in 2006 I really don't know. I think a lot of things change if Pennington is the QB instead of Sanchez. I don't think we go down 24-3 in the first half with Pennington at QB. I think we score when we had it 1st and goal on the Pitt 2 with Pennington at QB. Maybe I went a little overboard saying we go to the Super Bowl. I just like our chances a lot more with a healthy Pennington. He completed more passes with a higher completion percentage. Ranked higher in yards per attempt. Ranked higher in yards. Ranked lower in interceptions thrown and only 8 spots lower in TDs thrown. He was better than Sanchez in nearly every category. Stop focusing on just the TDS in 2011 compared to 2006. Opponents change, players change, week to week game plans change. The only fair way to compare is how they ranked with the other QBs during that time. Chad never got to 20 what under B.S.? What is an indictment to Sanchez is the fact that every other QB under Schotty besides Clemens has ranked higher than he has. I pointed out Rodgers Stafford and Brees all throwing for more than 5,000 yards and 40 plus TDs for the same reason I pointed out that a rookie QB had more scores than Sanchez in 2011. The point is a lot of QBs were scoring in 2011. Not so much in 2006. Are you just parroting what Junc says now? Why don't you put the stats in context for me then?
Junc, Chads physical limitations, only exacerbate it. Schottys game is based on an ancient understanding of the passing game, and he is not creative, or maybe is too inflexible, to change. He has not adapted to the reality of the post Bill Walsh era.for him creTivity, is formations and motions that make 11 football players become a ballet troupe. Real life is get it gone in 3 seconds, take the blitz away, create inside mismatches between 6-10 yards. You cant use Pennys injuries as an excuse, he was completing at over 65%, yet throwing as many picks as TDs. And, he started 07 after a full season. Yet....+1
20 TDs. Reading is fundamental. Ranked higher? A QB has two jobs. Score, and win games. No QB under Schottenheimer has done that better than Sanchez, unless you take away 2011, where Moore chipped in. Bradford had better weapons, and Pennington was a much more accurate QB. Yet..... Hey you can defend Schotty all you want....Sanchez hasnt been an asset, but he hasnt been the problem. Indictment on Sanchez? Are you daft man? Clemens was a second round pick, drafted for Schotty, to be the FUTURE of the organization and was here for a couple years under Schottys expert tutelage, before Sanchez got here, (being 16 starts removed from his last HS start) , and got beat by a guy that hadnt seen the playbook yet. And considering Favre was here short term in 2008, and wanted nothing to do with Schotty, he basically had a full season to work on him Yeah, thats a great coach.
Very good points. No doubt, Sanchez will continue to face an up hill battle, but should be a little easier than 2012. I want him to succeed, but in the end, we know the team does not have that much talent. By year 5, your QB should be able to carry you a little though. Hopefully Sanchez can finally do that with this new system. EDIT: Just noticed this is my 100th post in a Sanchez sucks thread. So I will leave it now. I think we have all discussed this situation down to the bone. God Speed!
You are not the only one who saw every throw, junc. I remember quite vividly a lot of moments that year where easy INTs were dropped and the Jets dodged a bullet. At the time I didn't raise a concern because Sanchez was still young and I too thought that stat was bogus. But that's not to say there wasn't a lot of them. Higher than normal. Any statistic that isn't easily defined like dropped passes and dropped INTs can be up for interpretation, but let's not pretend Sanchez didn't have a lot of close calls in 2010. Those close calls far exceeded the amount of dropped passes he had too, as the recievers played great that year. Those "close calls" were just that in 2010, but 2 years later when he's making the same mistakes and not getting as lucky, it's natural to harken back and think "what if?", especially since it was a higher than normal amount. It's relative to a QBs abilties and reputation too. If a Peyton Manning has some dropped INTs, it can be viewed as a bogus stat. Obviously he is a good qb with some close calls. But if a Mark Sanchez, who is annually near the top of the league in turnovers, has one "good" year in which he led the league in dropped INTs, then it has much more merit/substance.
So is writing: You left out the TDs part which is why I asked. Chad only threw for 20 or more TDs once in his entire career. He was with Schotty for 1 1/2 seasons. Sanchez wouldn't have thrown for 20 TDs in 2006. Hasselbeck, Favre, Roethlisberger, McNair, McNabb, and others didn't throw for 20 TDs in 2006. It is interesting that Sanchez has only thrown for 20 or more TDs once in his 4 year career. The year he did nearly every QB in the NFL threw close to 20 TDs. I never said Schotty was great. I just don't blame him for Sanchez sucking. Yeah let's forget about all the higher rankings the other QBs had and only focus on wins in a team sport. Forget about the #1 D and #1 running game we had with Sanchez at QB. Let's ignore that he threw for 29 TDs and 33 picks those 2 years we were winning. That isn't taking things out of context. The only year Sanchez had a high TD total was a year we only won 8 games and missed the playoffs. You can't have it both ways. If the QBs job is to win and score TDs Sanchez never did both in the same season. Are you kidding me? Clemens was drafted to backup Pennington. Schotty liked him so much that he would rather have Favre with a torn biceps and rotator cuff playing the last 5 games than a healthy Clemens.
He got hurt week 1 of 2007, not enough to knock him out but a beaten down QB was that much weaker and the team around him stunk. There's a reason kellen Clemens started most of the games that year. That happens to all QBs, they get lucky on some balls that should be picked and they get unlucky on some batted balls. 2 years later he was making mistakes on prayers, just trying to make anything happen w/ the awful healthy talent he had to work with.
So, Sanchez will go from buttfumbler to gamemanager. TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY OF THAT EXTENSION! Lol. Sanchez will throw 15 TDs and 22 INTs. Will probably eat a hot dog or two, but I'm not sure on whether mustard will be on them or not.
He's not going to get that opportunity I think. He may start the season for the Jets but if things are going poorly early on and his performance is part of the problem they will move away from him. They have another real option at this point and a lot of reasons to get a good look at that option before 2014 rolls around. I put Sanchez ceiling on Int's at just above 1 per game. If the Jets are 1-3 early on and Sanchez has 5 Int's they are going to sit him before that ghastly run of games that starts week 5 in Atlanta. They have to sell tickets and game 6 is the Steelers in MetLife and that's going to be a sea of terrible towels if the Jets are 1-4 going in with Sanchez still on the field.
It's a 1PM start on a Sunday. If the Jets give the fans a reason to come out they will come out. If it looks like a lost season already and Sanchez is still starting you're going to have a lot of tickets on the secondary market and then the crowd will look like a Steeler crowd.
It could be our best season ever, NY is loaded w/ Pitt fans and if Pitt is good they will flock to the Stadium- especially this one where so many real fans were priced out w/ PSLs and tickets are so easy to come by. I hope we are good so there are more Jet fans but either way it will be loaded w/ Pitt fans.
No. Sanchez will go from mismanaged property, to the Rose Bowl MVP we drafted. Mornhinweg doesnt call game manager games. Worth every penny....lol, you have no sense of irony, eh?
