That guy is awesome, I wish they were all like that. Well, we don't really have the same structure in Canada but just in general with the way jails are run. But I fall more on the punishment over rehabilitation side of things, depending on the type of crime at least. Committing fraud or petty theft is one thing but rapists and murders shouldn't be watching Seinfeld re-runs, laughing and joking around.

    NFL ARRESTS SINCE 2000 *

The "circus" = 2nd fewest arrests in the NFL. Class is represented on either side of the 'NYJ' bar graph below.

Miami never had even close to 50 arrests in a 7 year period, nor were they ever implicated in covering up murders. Yes, Miami wore fatigues and danced, and had a player say he was a "fucking soldier", and like all programs had arrests over the years, and were in general the first team to flaunt urban blacks.

But FIFTY ARRESTS in 7 years? Unprecedented. By far the worst I can recall. Miami, FSU, Bama, USC, never even remotely approached that level. Look it up. And every major incident involving a big name player, UF lawyers stepped in and the problem went away.

    ^ Spot on.
While Miami's bad guy rep started with the Jimmy Johnson era (the fatigues, the 58-7 win at the OB win vs. over-his-head Gerry Faust), it was really during Dennis Ericsson's tenure that the program took a dive credibility-wise and the NCAA sanctions (Pell Grant violations, etc.) were testiment to that, his winning record/titles aside.

    Tim Teboleone?

Nebraska was much dirtier than Miami ever was but Tom Osburne had a nice Midwest clean cut look to him so people never really got on his case. Lawrenece Phillips, the Peter brothers, among other things. He sold his soul to win a few national titles. Lawrence Phillips might be one of the biggest pieces of shit to ever play for a high profile team and Osburne turned a blind eye to everything he did. The guy beat the hell out of his girlfriend and Osburne essentially did nothing to punish him, ironically the Huskers beat the hell out of Florida to win the national title in which Phillips was the big reason they won.

The issue is there is no discourse from the NCAA when it comes to punishing schools for having criminals on their team. I read something that says not one of the big 3 schools in Florida do a criminal background check on their players nor in the case of many schools no punishment for any athlete arrested. Janoris Jenkins said it best when Will Muchamp kicked him off the team at Florida, if Myer was still the coach it would have been business as usual. College football is big business and like most other things in this country we are willing to turn a blind eye if you are succesful. I received a lot of heat from fans of my alma mater when I said they should have kicked the starting PG off the team after he choked his girlfriend. He was suspended for 3 games, one of which was an exhibition game. The way I look at it you are more than just a basketball player, you are representing my university and being on scholarship is a privelage not a right and when you choke your girlfriend you should lose that privelage.

Looks like one of Hernandez' sidekicks, Carlos Ortiz, is ratting him out.
Ortiz led the cops to an apartment that Hernandez rented and the police didn't know about. The police searched the apartment and gathered evidence that Hernandez had stashed there.

I don't see any correlation between arrests and how well Rex runs his team.

You say this now, but the second a Jets player gets arrested, that will be the first thing most of you Pats blokes will say. People are only insinuating that to mock the people that blame everything on Rex. Rex is the least of the Jets worries right now.

How do the Pats brass miss identifying these problems in a young star player? Don't they communicate with him? Practice, team meetings, family dinners?? #patriotway what a sham

Maybe Bellichicken is too busy answering questions on his girlfriend's twitter, Kraft porking his 20 year old girfriend, Brady dancing the flamenco to notice this guy was in serious trouble off the field. Cut them some slack

    DITTO !!!

I heard on one of the sports channels that Urban Meyer was the one who talked Bellichick into drafting Hernandez. Supposedly Meyer and Bellichick are buddies from years ago.

    http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story...riots-fans-line-trade-aaron-hernandez-jerseys

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Hundreds of fans flocked to the New England Patriots pro shop at Gillette Stadium on Saturday morning, taking part in a two-day event to exchange jerseys of former tight end Aaron Hernandez for those of current players.

According to a team spokesperson, over 500 jerseys with Hernandez's name were turned in by 11 a.m., about 90 minutes after the pro shop opened its doors. By 5 p.m., the shop had exchanged nearly 1,200 jerseys.

Hernandez was charged with the murder of 27-year old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd last month, and was released by the Patriots the same day.

Fans lined up hours before the event began, with Patriots staff checking the authenticity of the Hernandez jerseys before they were placed in a large bin. The team will make an effort to recycle the jersey material, but will not donate the jerseys to a foreign country.

In the first hour, the most popular jersey that fans picked off the shelf belonged to defensive tackle Vince Wilfork -- at a rate of twice as much as any other jersey -- followed by quarterback Tom Brady and defensive end Chandler Jones.

A notice in the pro shop said only jerseys of Wilfork, Brady, and Rob Gronkowski were available in authentic, women's and youth styles. Pro shop staff said a limited amount of Tim Tebow jerseys were available, but they moved quickly.

Season-ticket holder Steven McGrath of Lincoln, R.I., turned in his Hernandez jersey for one of another tight end, Gronkowski. The 25-year old was wearing a Patriots hat with the initials "MHK" on the back, representing Myra Kraft, the wife of owner Robert Kraft, who died in 2011.

"You can't wear a Hernandez (jersey) around here. He disrespected the Patriots way, Robert Kraft, Myra Kraft. You can't disrespect her," he said. "I made a mistake getting a Hernandez (jersey) in the first place. I should have bought Gronkowski, and I wouldn't be here now."

The Patriots encouraged parents to exchange their children's jerseys, and about 20 percent of the jerseys turned in were youth sizes.

Zack Klein, 14, of Newton, Mass., came to the pro shop wearing an Atlanta Falcons jersey of former quarterback Michael Vick, who spent nearly two years in prison on dog fighting charges.

"I support what (Vick) has done now, after. He's come back pretty well," he said. "But I don't support Hernandez."

Klein's brother, Matt, exchanged his Hernandez jersey for one of defensive end Rob Ninkovich.

"People said you could sell (the Hernandez jersey) on eBay for more money. But I just feel like profiting from it personally is sort of a weird concept," he said. "So to come back and exchange it for somebody like Ninkovich is for me a better result."

Within the past two weeks, an authentic Hernandez jersey has sold for as much as $400 on eBay, with autographed jerseys topping $1,200.

Self-described sports jersey enthusiast Christopher Sousa of Somerville, Mass., exchanged five of his Hernandez jerseys on Saturday. In their place, he picked up custom-made jerseys for tight ends Michael Hoomanawanui and Jake Ballard, but said that he will be keeping one Hernandez jersey in his former collection.

"I liked the player. I was really excited (when Hernandez was drafted). I stocked up on a lot of his jerseys," Sousa said. "One of my favorite players on the team next to Brady. I think it's too bad what he did."

The exchange event will continue through Sunday.
