What about Leon? Cotch? Thomas Jones? Those guys were all very efficient, and at the time, were good talents.
And Russell Wilson's performance in the playoff loss in why you can't overvalue a small sample size of playoff games based on wins and losses. As for the talent on the squads, I don't think any of the quarterbacks had overwhelming special talent around them. Outside of Wayne, Luck was working largely with rookies at tight end and at stretch receiver. His running backs were mediocre at the very best and his o-line graded out very poorly in pass protection. Certainly Wilson didn't have special talent at receiver. His o-line was also just okay. Outside of Unger and Okung, it's a poor unit (pff had them 20th in pass pro). Lynch is a nice back but I'd personally rather have the great line play Sanchez had in his first two years over a back that isn't of Adrian Peterson value.
Lost Leon midseason, Cotch was good, Jones had great season then fell apart in postseason. Quality talent but there weren't any reggie Wayne's or Marshawn Lynch's in there.
look, good qb's complete passes and don't turn the ball over. sanchez has never been in the top 10 in comp% or ints. those are the only stats i care about because most of the time they lead to wins, more so with a good D. if you want to say sanchez was clutch in 2010 i would agree with that, but 1 of the 10 best in the league. no way
We weren't 3-1 because Sanchez played really well. We had a D that was holding opponents to an average of 11 PPG in those 3 wins. We had Stuckey those 4 games but also had Cotchery Leon Washington Thomas Jones and Dustin Keller. We added Edwards by game 5. It didn't matter that they didn't have camp. They had chemistry from the very beginning. Please don't compare RG3 Luck or Wilson to Sanchez and argue that Sanchez won more playoff games. It is a team game. Any one of those rookie QBs probably would have made the Super Bowl with us in 2009 or 2010.
I don't trust ESPN, not a day in my life. They are always full of shit and never take into account other factors. So let me get this straight, dropping back to pass 64 times in the Giants game, Holmes fumbling and the defense getting shitting on during the Eagles game are all on Sanchez? Unbelievable ... JUNC is starting to make much more sense in this retrospect. You say he was not the sole reason, yet in your post all you talk about is Mark Sanchez! Mark as well as everyone else deserves the blame, it goes all the way around.
Can you read? I never once put all the blame on Mark. I simply highlighted the fact that he performed poorly in each of those three games. Generally, I feel the QB bares the most responsibility of any position on the team. Is it Mark's fault the defense got ran over against the Eagles? No. Is it his fault that Tone fumbled? No. But his inconsistent play was a MAJOR factor in us losing those games. Especially against the Dolphins.
If the Jets had gotten just average play out of Wayne Hunter, Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes and good solid play-calling out of Brian Schottenheimer in the final 3 games of 2011 they probably make the playoffs that year and the Giants do not win the Super Bowl. It really was a multi-faceted collapse by those 4 key elements at the end that killed the team. The moment I went from skepticism on the Tannenbaum era to disbelief was when Hunter's option was picked up after 2011. That told me that something was just not right and that the house of cards was beginning to sway in the wind.
QUESTION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED: What if Sanchez has a decent, bounce back, season? The Jets finish (8-8), which is pretty good for their current roster. Of the 8 losses, only 4 fall on Sanchez's shoulders, but he made some great plays in each of the 8 wins. What do you do for 2014?
Leon??????? Leon??????? One of the biggest indictments of Schottenheimer was not using Leon enough....
So, Pennington, a 65% passer, suddenly got wild amd inaccurate, while maintaining a good completion percentage after Schotty got here? Or should that tell a rational person, that thers a flaw in the offense, that never got fixed? Fumbles, another story, Sanchez holds the ball like shit. But INTs, arent all a QB. Look at Pennington. Especially, comparing 2006,7...to 2008 when he went to Miami.
This is the scenario that has me most worried because it leaves the Jets in no-man's land on the QB situation. We don't have the Sanchez question resolved yet because his bounce-back year wasn't good enough to do that. We don't have Geno Smith in any clearly positive state moving forward nor have we been able to dsicount him as the possible franchise QB. We cannot draft a QB in the 1st round in 2014 because we'd wind up with a conflagration at that point with a too-crowded QB position and everybody pulling for different people, in the organization and out. The only positive result for Sanchez this year that helps the Jets is if he suddenly becomes a clearly top 10 QB.
schotty called too many deep outs for penny after the shoulder went. and i am not arguing about the system. i am cautiously optimistic tha MM can salvage mark only because he took a career 55% vick and got him to 60% in his first year. my points in this thread are 1. mark does not raise the level of play around him 2. 2010 was not a top 10 performance.
The reason Chad went back to his normal level of avoiding interceptions with the Fins was that he left Schotty's offense and went to an offensive system that was designed to protect the QB. The elephant in the room on Schotty's system is that it just is not fundamentally sound. The system was designed to let the QB make a lot of pre-snap shifts in order to better read the defense. It was designed to flood certain zones of the field with receivers and then make the best throw available in those zones. What really happens though is that the defense gets a long look at the offensive set before the snap. With enough film they can figure out where the likely play is going. The backs line up in ways that give the defense good shots at predicting a run. The flooded areas of the field are often illogical, like having 4 or 5 receivers all short of the 1st down and relying on yards after the catch to pick it up. The offensive players get held in the set position for too long and the Jets wound up with the clock running down too often. This results in more penalties than the personnel would suggest. The Jets avoided some of that issue by having good veteran offensive linemen who got the chance to play in the system for a number of years. Last year the Rams were worst in the NFL in penalties and a big part of that was the offensive line being held in the set position for too long play after play in a new system for them.
Who cares about the Dolphins game? We were already out before kickoff. Again though, you were leaving many factors out that's why I responded back.
You do know Pennington was coming off of major shoulder surgery right? You do know he still completed 64.5% of his passes in 2006 and 68.8% of his passes in the 9 games he played in 2007 right? When you change teams a lot more changes than just the OC. No we were very much alive during that game. The games were being played at the same time and all the teams that we needed to lose lost except Ten who won by 1 point.
It was a combo of things and Sanchez was playing really well. He actually won rookie of the month for his first month. It's hard to win in January, I don't care about fantasy stats I care about wins especially wins in January. Believe me, if any of those rookie QBs were our QB and we lost in the WC rd we'd have nitwits wanting to get rid of them. if our "great" D doesn't allow a 99 yd TD we probably make the playoffs and the Giants don't too, not to mention how inept the D was at Philly the week before where the collapse really began. We'd have our QB locked up and mark would be the starter going into 2014. That is the best possible outcome for our franchise. We'd have a solid starter and still would be developing a young guy. People forget we nearly made a SB w/ Wayne Hunter as our starting RT in 2010 and who were the RTs on the market? If Woody wanted to come back the Jets would have brought him back.
But that's not what's ESPN or Jaws says, & who cares abt a successful superbowl winning coach? You got a coach not affiliated with Mark or any network, vs a reporter trying sell what he cooked in the toilet seat. I'll take the coach on this one.
