Again, 2 or 3 good games by our OC in the playoffs does not dispel the amount of games which he royally fucked our offense during the regular season. The lack of easy throws, the inability to get our offense in rhythm for more than 2 straight games. Best job Schotty did was weeks 2-4 in the 2010 season.
Name these games when he screwed our offense in the reg season and even IF he did(which he didn't) 2 postseasons DOES make up for any reg season shortcomings.
Even though junc will probably disagree, Rex Ryan has never ranked below #6 in total defense, starting from 2005 till 2012. During that span, his defense gave up roughly about 280 yards a game, only second to Dick LeBeau's Steelers defense, which gave up about 277.4 yards a game. Love him or hate him; but know this. Ryan knows his defense. Now... can his offensive counterpart say the same... I have never heard of Schottenheimer being #2 in the league in terms of ANYTHING. (Or Sparano for that matter.) It is not like the defense was star-studded group of all stars either. Kris Jenkins played briefly, LBs were slow as hell, safeties - Eric Smith. Are you fucking kidding me? Other than Revis, the defense didn't have that many 'good' pieces around either; much less than the offense. Still, Ryan produced; his offense didn't. [In short: junc. shut the fuck up. I get you have hard on with your boy Schottenheimer. I know you cream whenever you think of that gay bitch Sanchez. I don't care. At least do not blame the defense when it was the defense that carried the team for the entire time.]
Many teams have made the championship game with subpar QB play. 2000 Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. 2001 Steelers made the AFC Championship Game with Kordell Stewart. 2003 Panthers made the Super Bowl with Jake Delhomme. 2004 Falcons made the NFC Championship Game with Michael Vick. 2006 Bears made the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman. 2007 Giants won a Super Bowl in a season where Eli Manning threw 20 picks and had a 73.9 rating. 2009 Jets with Sanchez. 2010 Jets with Sanchez. If the rest of the team is strong enough and they get lucky anything can happen.
Junc I respect you n all, but WATCH THE GAMES! Use your eyes - there was never any fluidity. I'm not going to bring up all the games. What dumbass OC throws the football 40 times in the snow on the road when the running game is going decently? Schotty lacks common sense, this is an obvious observation. Our goal is to win the SB - AFCCG against the Steelers, backed up on our own end, 3rd down and 17 decides to dial up a long developing pass play. Smart? I think not, in the playoffs field position is everything. Junc - you cannot defend both Sanchez and Schottenheimer that's straight trollin bro
Dilfer was VITAL to that run, they never got that quality QB play in januayr until Flacco came around which is why they finally won another. Stewart won ONE game at home where his D allowed 3 pts. What postseason game did our D allow 3 pts? Delhomme was outstanding that postseason throwing 6 TDs w/ 1 INT Michael Vick was a top QB in this league Bears had homefield where #2 seed was a 10 win team, extremely weak conference and division. did they ever win another playoff game w/ him? Eli played very well in postseason and the D was incredible in both SB years Sanchez played very well in postseason, D was very good until title games I watched every play of every game, half of them in person where I could see more than TV cameras showed us. To blame the OC is silly but it is something we ALWAYS do and not just jet fans but all fans. In NE in the div rd the Pats fans around me were bashing the OC, same thing in Pitt the next week. it's what fans do. Long developing? sanchez was hit in less than 2 secs, how was the play long developing? I ask again, how did we get to the doorstep of TWO SBs w/ a terrible OC and terrible QB?
First off, knock it off w/ the childish insults. That's the mark of someone who isn't confident in what they just posted. second, you can have all the rankings you want but our supposed "great" Ds blow an incredible amount of late leads and failed to show up for either title game. You can fall back on rankings all you want but shutting down Jax or Buf doesn't impress me. #s can get skewed against bad teams, I judge teams and units against other top teams and in big spots. Our D was excellent the first 2 rds each year and bad in the title games.
Junc what you posted in response to my post is meaningless. The facts are that those teams succeeded despite having subpar QB's who for the most part were out of the NFL shortly thereafter. Your thesis that Mark Sanchez is good because the Jets got to two AFC Championship Games with him isn't any more valid than the thesis that Trent Dilfer was a good NFL QB because he won a Super Bowl or that Jake Delhomme was a good NFL QB because he got to a Super Bowl and another NFC Championship Game or that Rex Grossman was good because he got to a Super Bowl, etc. The facts are that none of those guys were good NFL QB's and yet their respective teams got very far anyway, because they had strong defenses and running games. Same is true for Mark Sanchez.
Trent Dilfer was good, they don't even make the playoffs w/o him let alone win a SB. obviously they won w/ D first but the point is, which you missed, is that even truly great Ds(which we did not have) need competent QB play and offense to win in January. A fluke season can happen like Grossman '06(who, by the way, wasn't bad at that point in his career) can happen but 2 straight years? 4 road games? not happening w/o quality QB play no matter how many excuses you guys make.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, we happened to find 2 of them ... the next season after going to two AFCCGs, we went to shit. I don't think Sanchez WAS a terrible QB back then and I still think that kind of to this day. We did have a terrible OC, or mediocre more like.
we were 8-5 and had an excellent chance to get to postseason despite a serious downgrade in talent, the following year it fell apart when we had Chaz Schilens starting. I am not saying Brian was great but he was good and vastly underrated by Jet fans.
Good - you play that 'circumstance' game all the time, let me give you one. Remember that Broncos game? You know, the one where Tebow launches the late comeback to snatch the victory away from the jaws of defeat. Do you really think that is the fault of defense? Because, last time I checked, the defense gave up exactly 3 point by the time Tebow started the comeback drive, with Jets offense scoring paltry 13 points; i.e. if your boy Sanchez didn't throw that pick 6, it was over. That has always been the story with the Jets; Sanchez pick 6, or Sanchez fumble, or 3-and-out all half. You just ignore them. You just look at the minuscule part of the game and blame the defense, when the offense did everything they could do to sabotage the game up to that point. Pittsburgh game? My god. The offense scored exactly how much points in the first half? You know, defense needs rest, and going 3-and-out all the time is not helping the defense. [Ok... they did more than 3-and-out during the opening drive, and last FG drive. GOOD. Is that a sign of offensive competence? Not going 3-and-out? Jesus.] And Sanchez fumbled the ball for a TD during that game too; which happened to be the winning margin for the Steelers. Yet it is all defense's fault all along, right? How about Titans game last year? Is it the defense's fault that Sanchez threw 4 picks and lost a fumble? Ok. Chris Johnson ran some 90+ yards for TD - so it is the defense that blew the game, right? [And it has been the story of the Jets all along. Other than a few NE games, I can't recall the defense blowing the game out of the water so miserably like the offense has done so many times.] ===================================================== I just don't get these people. It feels like I'm talking to meth addict. They can't differentiate reality and their own fantasy. Good riddance.
Then why do you have a "location" under your avatar openly mocking a TEAM player? What gives? Simple, Chad started throwing outside the numbers even more than Sanchez Player: Chad Pennington Source: www.throwingoutsidethenumbers.com
We still didn't make the playoffs and remember the Giants game? Where we had Sanchez drop back like 64 times? When in the first half we ran the ball and they couldn't stop us from gaining 4 yards a pop? Schotty ruined Christmas. We stay on course against the Giants by at least having a 50:50 run pass ratio and it's possible we win the game. Granted we had the Victor Cruz 99 yard play, but we still had a chance to win that game.
Yep, the one where our "great" D allowed a QB that can't throw to go 95 yds in the final minutes. I remember it. It was the fault of both the D and the O but w/ the game on the line a big time D has to find a way to stop a QB who can't throw from going 95 yds. How many points did the D allow in the 1st half? The O was never on the field w/o a deficit thanks to the D and when the O got us w/in a score late what did the D do? Yes I remember, the one where the D allowed a 99 yard TD on a 3rd and 9 which changed the game and seasons for both teams. Go back and watch that game or check the play by play, we were in passing situations most of the game either from penalties or being behind.
Go back and watch that Giants game or check the play by play and let me know how many times the O had a chance to tie or take the lead in that game and failed. Even when you see it you won't care. The game was over before halftime in your mind even though it was a 3 point game. I shouldn't be surprised. You are the same guy who places 40% of the blame on the D for the Titans loss when they only allowed 14 points and the QB had 5 turnovers. :breakdance:
That play took the heart out of our team, we were in control getting ready to extend the lead before the end of the half w/ momentum on our side then they allow a 99 yd TD on 3rd and 9 no less. The O was pathetic at ten but let's not pretend the D was great, each time we took the lead the D gave it right back. Do you think that is good for a bad O w/o confidence? Had we scored another Td the D likely would have allowed another score. I am not fooled, others are.
