http://www.northjersey.com/sports/J...contract_of_any_inside_LB_in_NFL_history.html I hadn't realized how much he's making. Moreover, I hadn't realized how much he is contributing to the cap (I don't know the specific number, but I bet it's getting bigger each year given tanny's old ways). I think Harris is a good player (though he's had a down year) and I'm glad we have him this year, but is he worth his cost? We can't continue to pay average players Superstar money. I think he might get cut along with Holmes (and possibly Cromartie) after this season. Should he?
That right there has been our major problem in recent years. The contracts we gave out were horrendous outside of maybe Mangold and Brick. Sanchez, Holmes, Bart, Pace, and Harris are all killers. Who knows, if werent for those contracts, maybe Revis is still a Jet. Honestly, I hope retain Cromartie. He's stepping in as a true leader and he played like a top 5 CB last season. Id look for him to restructure and stay a Jet. Holmes I think is done barring some miracle and Harris could very well be cut, but at the very least will be restructured. We should have a lot of cap space next year.
That is a tremendous amount of guaranteed money. No way is he getting cut prior to the end of his contract. He is a solid player and a fine inside linebacker, however he isn't worth that type of salary. Nothing Idzik can do about it now though.
I can't remember where I read this, but I thougjt I saw it said he was et to count around 14mil against the cap next year. Couldve read that wrong so don't hold me to it
He's only under contract through 2014 and would only have 2 million in dead money while saving 5 million in cap space- definitely cuttable if his ply continues to decline.
If Harris has an up year and the Jets find a good complimentary linebacker (hopefully Davis) then the odds on Harris getting cut are low but it's a real possibility. If he has a down year or gets hurt he's probably going to get cut. 30 and overpaid is the definition of a cap casualty.
No one said a bitch peep about this Yet, one of the greatest CB's ever run out of town... Fuckin JETS fans...and I actually Like DH..
Revis wasn't run out of town. He wanted to be paid like a QB and the Jets actually found another team (only one BTW) willing to do that.
I have been harping on this for ages. Some even claimed I shouldn't talk about salary cap since I know absolutely nothing about it. (That dude wanted the Jets to fork over 15M to Revis. Good fucking riddance.)
It's the Jets We give guys like Harris Good but great player big money deals and tell guys like Revis to get the fuck out
No, this is his last year. The cost to cut him after this year is 2 mil. (At least at over market dollars it is his last year)
Whats to know about the cap? You can look it up, once you see the relative numbers, its simple value judgements, good riddance to a two time holdout that wanted to be paid like hes Peyton manning. Effing a.
No big news but a glaring reminder of the idiotic contracts of our previous leadership. One by one our new GM will clean them up. As for Revis, he run himself out of town by his incredible demands. Had we had Idzik 4 years ago, the shit with Revis, Harris and Holmes would have never happened.
Harris is an above average ILB, but not worthy of being the highest paid. I wasn't aware of this. Didn't he restructure at one point? Friggin Tanny. Overpay guys and let your best FAs walk each year is his mantra.
