    Holmes Injury the worst kind

Interesting read and also quite worrisome. At the end of that article NONE of those WR's would be who I would bring on...even Lloyd.

As many stated previously, this is a problem. Until the updated information in this article I didn't realize how MUCH of a problem we have. The question is, what do we do about it? Let's take a look at what we have:

    Collins, Joseph - Who?
    Davis, Marcus - Who?
Gates, Clyde - 4th or 5th at BEST
    Hazelton, Vidal - Who?
Hill, Stephen - Pray he progresses but history suggests otherwise. Outside a handful of receivers around the league most take a couple years to get up to speed.
Holmes, Santonio - After doing some research on a 4th grade Lis Franc injury I would suspect he doesn't make it back until the season opener...possibly MID-Season...and probably will not have an impact at all.
Kerley, Jeremy - My opinion, the only solid option we have right now and he's best in the slot and as a number 2/3 guy.
    Mayo, Thomas - Who?
Obomanu, Ben - Obviously hasn't set the league on fire...number 4 or 5 guy at best. 83 receptions in 6 years is pretty bad.
Rogers, Zach - intriguing based upon reports out of college but even if he is successful still only a number 3 or 4 guy...and that is IF he pans out. History suggests practice squad for Zach.

The rest of these guys...why bother typing for each one...my reaction is Blah...

    Ryan, Titus
    Spadola, Ryan
    Stroud, K.J.
    White, Jordan

What do we do? Well, one of the obvious choices is Braylon...but, honestly, how much left does he have in the tank and he was a streaky player at best when healthy and on his game.

    Who else is out there:

Brandon Lloyd - Been discussed ad nausea. I am not sure that he fits.
Laurent Robinson - 4 teams in 6 years. Enough said.
Steve Breaston - Maybe...health is a concern, though. With the addition of Alex Smith in KC my red flag-o-meter starts to fly as to why they didn't want him back.
Randy Moss - Old and strictly a deep threat...wouldn't sign with a team as pitiful as the Jets are anyway...seeking SB
Braylon Edwards - Most likely option
Deion Branch - Possiblity but, again, his skills have declined.
    Chaz Schilens - Really...I mean...REALLY? Not!
    Early Doucet
Brandon Stokley - 304 Rec in 14 years...while I love him he is too old and was never really any type of centerpiece. I'd keep him on the back burner in case nothing else is out there. He would bring leadership and saavy but that isn't going to win games.
    Austin Collie - Injury history
    Derek Hagan
    Chad Johnson - Prison

It doesn't look good folks! I don't know about all those potential "stop-gap" players so please...comments appreciated. Horrible year for the FA WR!

Yes, it's worrisome. But at the same time, I'm not freaking out about THIS year's wideouts and potential free agent targets. It would be nice to give Geno someone to grow with (or someone to help Sanchez revive his career), sure, but it's not about this year. Next year's draft and free agent class is where I'm looking for the Jets to find their next top receiver.

Does anyone know what Lloyd is asking for? He was scheduled to make 2.5 in NE and they cut him. We can afford that and I think if we sign him for a base of 1 mil plus 750k singing and add incentives with a second year option we can get him.

Sign the bitch, I meant beast.

With Holmes' injury being as serious as they're saying, I wonder why the jets aren't bringing in others to tryout/learn the new system rather than hoping Holmes is ready to go by game 1?

Definitely agreed as far as a young guy to groom...but we HAVE to have some kind of production this year. I'm not about to write the whole year off. Ce la vie...

Yes, saw that about Johnson. But I don't know...do we really want the headache. If I'm going to bring a headache on to the team I'll go after Terrell Owens. At least he doesn't have the legal crap on his resume. We REALLY better pray Winslow stays healthy, the new RB's are "money" out of the backfield and Hill matures "over night" or we are screwed offensively.

I don't know about Lloyd...I wonder if he would bother to come to the Jets. He's known as a bit of a Prima Dona.

This is a great question! I can only assume money is a part of the problem as well as there really isn't a whole lot out there.

I guess we can excuse him just throwing the ball right to a 49er for 7 points now.

The concern with Lloyd is probably more about his attitude. That at least plays a role in why he is unemployed. Lot of negative buzz about him possibly being bipolar and a locker room cancer. This is a guy who has been with 6 organizations in 10 years. His ability just may not be worth the headache anymore.

His time with the Jets is nearing the end.

I suspect he'll be out longer than people realize this season because he won't want to go out there and underperform because of injury and cost himself money or risk further injury.

I think he spend the year on and off the IR.. after which the Jets will release him and he will hit the F.A. market, likely sign a 1 year deal somewhere where he can spend a year healthy, and trying to perform at his highest level for another multi-year deal. - - seen this script multiple times.

He's not the type to give it all for his team and gut it out through injury.. especially when that team won't be contending.

WR will be a major need that they will address next offseason, whether it's Idzik's first big FA splash or a number 1 draft pick IMO

In my view you just cannot look at our receivers in a vacuum. A large part of the reason our WR corps seem to be bad, is because the starting QB is the worst in the league. As long as he does not start our WR position will be significantly better off.

I think teams only get to return one player from an IR designation all season so there's no way he could be on and off the IR. I also don't believe players on IR can be released.

excuse me, yes. I guess I didn't mean the official IR, but rather that he will be missing weeks throughout the season, i guess listed as "out" not on the reserve.

I'm sure Idzik will sign some WR's before June is over. As someone else alluded, better QB play (doesn't matter who at this point) makes a WORLD of a difference
