1. Ivory- He's been itching to get out of that crowded backfield in NO, and I think that given the opportunity he could turn into a feature RB 2.Coples- He came out as a potentially dominant player as the season progressed last year. We'll see how the transition to OLB goes for him, he could be lethal coming off the edge. 3. McKnight- Joe is one of those players that, even though he has been around for a couple years now, we still aren't quite sure what we have with him. Geno's excellent at completing short yardage throws, and I feel Joe's reception numbers will go up big time (assuming Geno starts) 4. Demario Davis- I love this kids athleticism. He's a small school guy that plays like an SEC defender. He should rack up some tackles this year. 5. Kyle Wilson- I'd have to say this is a make-or-break year for Mr. Wilson. He flashes signs of greatness from time to time, but in coverage he can be mediocre at best. Hopefully he gets it going this year to fill some of the void left by the departed secondary players.
Here are the top 5 guys i'm HOPING take a major step up: 1) Stephen Hill 2) Demario Davis 3) Austin Howard 4) Quentin Coples 5) Hayden Smith I like all these guys. They have the right attitude and skill set, and they all play at positions currently in great need for improvement. But i really don't know for sure what we have with them. If even 3 of them really pan out well, that would set up a nice foundation, and give us more roster flexibility going forward. Obviously you can add every rookie to this list of hopefuls as well, but hard to expect too much from rookies.
1. 3 first round DL picks 2. Chris Ivory dudes a beast 3. Kyle Wilson back to the slot please show up 4. Geno Smith OROY 5. Hayden Smith -aussi rules
I'm not gonna pick Sanchez or Geno just because that would make this too easy. 1.Mo Wilkerson 2. Quinton Coples 3. Demario Davis 4. Stephen Hill 5. Kyle wilson
1. Demario Davis- Despite what's written about him he is great in pass coverage. His impact or lack of will be crucial. He's a drastic part of the jets supposed upgrade of speed in their front 7. 2.Mike Goodson- He has a chance to break out in this system..which is all about catching in space.Awful tough to stop a square up runner that is that fast. 3.Austin Howard- He reminds me alittle of Jason Fabini. Yeah he's not perfect in pass pro but can match up w/ anyone & wins the running game. 4.Quinton Coples- Watching his senior bowl practice footage showed off Coples raw pass rush ability. He did some stuff standing up that was scary. He's so long on the edge that if he beats blocker's hands, it was over every time. Can he be consistent & will he wear down is the question 5.(Going out w/ a bang) Vlad Ducasse- I really feel at some point they're going to have to take a long look at his run blocking & just accept him for what he is. Because he pancakes the best of them when they run the ball. His pass pro is alittle inconsistent but you cant teach the way he can drive block.
I don't think Wilkerson should be on the list as he ahs already broken out and is considered one of the best DL in football. Candidates: 1. Davis 2. R. Sapp 3. A. Howard 4. C. Ivory 5. I would put Stephen Hill, Kerlry or Gates on this list but I don't see them breaking out until we get a NFL caliber QB. If Sanchez starts there is a much better chance Sanchez will injure another receiver with a poorly thrown or late pass like he did to Holmes and Gates last year. Instead I will go with Coples. Honorable mention: 1. Mcelroy Arguably the best QB on the roster. If he could actually get some reps and learn the plays he should improve quite a bit. He certainly showed he has the instincts and toughness to play QB when they let him play with an improvised playbook against Arizona. The man is deserving of an opportunity. Maybe not 4 years of atrocious QB playing but the opportunity to get practice reps, play and learn. 2. Cumberland. Pople are talking up Hayden Smith. I don't buy it. If he was that good would we be signing Winslow?
When you select for speed and height without accounting for hands the odds are pretty good you get a tall fast guy with iffy hands. It's like the "why can't every sex symbol be 36-24-36?" If you select for 36 and 24, well the odds on getting 36 randomly in the end are pretty low.
Guys hands can get better, but you really can't get much faster, look what Tom Coughlin did for Tiki Barber's fumbling...stick him in front of the Juggs machine everyday
Richardson: Guy is going to be a monster Ivory: Maybe he'll get more than one yard unlike some people *coughGreenecOnough* Winslow: It's going to be really nice to have an experienced vet with a warrior mentality. And this guy will serve as a GREAT security blanket. Cromartie: His leadership is something I really look forward to. Guy can be all pro Sanchez/Smith: Whoever it is, MM's system looks as though it will bring the best out of them. We won't lose because we can't score 10 points a game
Interesting list Armand and I do hope you're right about Richardson. Good motor, good quickness to slide through gaps; only hope he's stout enough taking on the big uglies straight up. Ivory/Winslow: stary healthy. Cro: if last year's any indication, looks good. Would love to see Milliner shine on the other side (his stephen hill 'hands' aside) ;-)
1. Coples - he will breakout from year 1 to year 2 similar to Big Mo (who I would of put on my list, but I feel like he broke out last year). I'm looking for 8-10 sacks outta Coples this year! 2. D. Davis - has talent and intangibles.... now with a year under his belt and playing behind our line and next to Harris I love his chances of making a big impact this year. 3. C. Ivory - I believe he will get his shot to carry the load for the first time in his career and he will treat it up behind a steady diet of carries and opportunities to make plays. 4. D. Milliner - as long as he is healthy, this man will make a name for himself. Many say he is the best CB prospect in a while, including Rex, plus playing next to Cro he will get his fair share of chances to make plays. 5. J. Kerley - this little basterd is gonna take nickel backs to school this season, especially in the West Coast offense. Honorable mentions: H. Smith, S. Hill, A. Allen Sent from my Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
Yeah, injuries are the only concern. But, it's football, injuries are a part of the game. I feel comfortable with RB depth. TE depth is still iffy... As for Milliner, I hope he can erase some guys this season. Doesn't matter if he can't catch (CB's don't need to catch, they need to make sure the other guy doesn't catch).
Richardson: A beast. Ivory: Huge improvement over Greene. Saap: Have the Jets have been hiding him for the past year? Coples: Let's hope... Smith: What the hell...can he be worse than Sanchez?
You can't teach speed or size. Heck even if Hill only becomes average at catching balls...he's still 6'4 & runs a 4.3. Exceptionally rare. I didn't list Hill in my top 5 cause I think he'd be best served to spend this year as the #4 only running the routes he has mastered. Next year we can worry about him producing starter #'s & running the whole route tree.
There's only so much you can do with repetition. I'm hoping Hill works out but the building of hand-eye coordination is mostly done when by the time you are 8 or so. Fixing it in the early 20's is possible but not just by repetition. The way Hill reacts to stimulus has to change some too. I'd put him in an environment that trains his peripheral vision and reflexes. I'd try to train his grip reflexes. The Juggs machine can do some of that but you have to get way out of the box to replicate the learning environment required to get a guy the equivalent of 8 year old training on basic physical responses.
