If it's going to be "awkward" for Geno, then he doesn't have the fortiude to be an NFL QB in New York--just like Sanchez being intimidated by Tebow last year. Grow a pair. Not sure it's going to be awkward for Sanchez--it's his deal, he has always been an upstanding team guy--he'll invite Geno because it's the right thing to do for the team--just like he invited Tebow last year. Not sure I believe the "split" of young and old--most of these guys are right around the same age--and guys like Ivory and Goodson have no history with Sanchez--Hill and Kerley have more history with Mark--but I don't buy the fractured angle at all. Besides--it's like 4 days long--not the whole summer. Geno can stay in NJ all offseason and study study study the playbook and work on his footwork--but he can take a few days off to bond with his new teammates. Kind of reminds me of when a President takes a long weekend vacation and folk scream---ARRRGGGHHH the countries going down the toilet and he's on Marthas Vineyard?!?!? Yeah, you can take a few days off from your day job--especially if it's to go and actually practice with your teammates. But finally--unless Geno is truly a diva, which I do not believe him to be--this is the BEST thing that he can do for himself AND the team. You know--a team working towards one goal--winning. These guys should be competing with each other and supporting each other--if they are not then shame on both of them. There is NOTHING bad that can come out of a young QB getting together OUTSIDE of Florahm Park to work with his receivers, tight ends, running backs, other QBs teammates that he barely knows--bonding, practicing, hanging out, bullsh*tting, building chemistry, spending some unofficial time getting to know them on AND off the field. Staying away is actually the awkward thing to do--it's saying "I'm NOT part of the team--I'm my own person and will do my own thing". Not ideal for a rookie to pull. He should WANT to go and show Sanchez that he's going to be the man, not hide from him. _
The Ravens game in 2011 was about the third game that defined the Jets ceiling with Mark Sanchez as QB. The first two were Ravens and Packers in 2010. All 3 games showed us that if pressure was applied by the opposing defense the Jets offense would just shut down. The first half of the 2010 AFCCG was a similar issue and then inexplicably the Steelers backed off with the big lead in the second half. If you put pressure on Mark Sanchez you're going to win the game. Any team with a good enough defense to do that is going to beat the Jets like a drum. This, BTW, is not dissimilar to the situation the Jets had with Chad after 2004. He couldn't handle a heavy pressing defense after that point and that's why the inopportune turnovers became an issue. At some point it is going to be worthwhile to do an analysis of how Sanchez performed against top third, middle third and bottom third defenses during his tenure with the Jets. I'm pretty sure that he is going to have a wider split than most QB's in terms of his results. I think he's going to feast on the bottom third defenses and starve against everybody else with production almost non-existent against the top third defenses.
Handling a blitz comes down to WRs ability to read defenses and the coaching scheme as much as it does QB. There was an article recently that said Sparano forced the same snap count play after play. That, combined with a revolving door of WRs that have never played at the pro level, is probably a really solid way to throw off opposing team blitzes. I'm really interested to see if teams can still "T-Up" on sanchez and bring so much pressure with the timing routes and flexibility of the new system.
JayBiz, Geno NOT being there would be the proverbial elephant in the room; very awkward. Gotta go along to get along even if only for now. Jets West is an off-season sideshow. As for ESPN (NY Post, etc.), if Smith didn't show up, the pot-stirring, duplicitous Trey Wingo's of the world would turn it into a big deal (read: "circus") sideshow .... "SANCHEZ-SMITH SCHISM!!" .... Me, I laugh and mock 'em whenever possible as they've very little credibility, but, just saying that they'd spin this as negatively as possible. Yes there is. He's a cunt. A steaming, toxic, ever-widening, gooey, drippy, runny kind of a cunt....with....how shall I put this?.... or did I misread 3rd option at QB to read as 3rd option in describing Gary Myers?
Did the quick analysis. Going to put the results in the Sanchez Sucks thread just to keep this one a little better on track.
"though coach Rex Ryan and quarterbacks coach David Lee said this week Smith could see some time in a Wildcat-type package, even if Sanchez is the starting quarterback." Coming from a WVU fan who's seen every collegiate game Geno has played in I hope this isn't true. He isn't a QB you use for designed runs. His speed should be used just to extend plays and or pick up yards if nobody's open.
Fixed. The Giants say hello. Dude, you can say that about any team--Sanchez got BLASTED in that Ravens game--I'm not making excuses but Wayne Hunter nearly got him killed in 2011. I can't find the youtube video, it's not on line anymore. But do you recall the VERY FIRST offensive play for the jets in 2011? First game? First offensive snap? DeMarcus Ware untouched buried Sanchez. He may be a shot fighter--but he didn't get a lot of help that year. _
Are you arguing that it's just as easy to put pressure on Tom Brady as it is on Mark Sanchez? Because I don't see that at all. You definitely can beat Brady by putting heavy pressure on him, but that involves creating a scheme that both rushes him effectively and takes away the quick reads. You can put pressure on Mark Sanchez just by taking away his first read. It's all over at that point most of the time.
So the pounding he took against Baltimore or Von Miller nailing him at 1.5 or Demarcus Ware destroying him at 1.5 seconds was because they took his first read away? LOL. _
If those were the only games he double-clutched in I'd see your point but the Titans last year loom really large in this conversation, as do a bunch of other games over the years.
Everything I've read about MMs WCO is that he takes a lot of the decision making out of the QBs hands--it's a very quick read or dump off or boom out of bounds. Not a lot of multiple progressions. I'm no expert on his system, but that's what I've read. _
Thank you. You just made my anti-schotty, pro-sanchez argument. Its all about where that first read is. And for the Jets, its been down the field or outside the numbers, or both.
Because (lets skip the non oc-oc 2012, ill point out that he refused to throw to the backs at all) Prior to 2012, the moron at OC had pass plays that took three effing days ro develop, hence getting his QB killed. Physically and INT wise. Go look up Pennys stats from 06,07.
Yeah, he played like shit against the Titans...no denying it. But...wasnt the difference in that game a 90 yard plus run? And then a 13 yard run by locker? Yeah Sanchez threw a bunch of picks. Trying to hit Cumberland. Take a real good look at the Box score. When you have one Receiver in the NFL, and keep throwing at him, its going to happen. Probably the one four pick game you cant put on the QB.....
Sanchez was so very very bad against the Titans last year. One of the worst performances I've ever seen.
I wish Mark were a better QB. He seems like a real pal whom you would invite over and BBQ with and have a few beers. But, his horrid play just makes me so furious. And, honestly, the eternal optimist in me will go, "hey, maybe he's finally got it!" the second he has a good game. However, I know he's just going to let me down just like he always has.
