Now I know some of you are against Rex's style and think of him as a glorified Defensive Coordinator, But the truth is players love playing for Rex and constantly put everything on the line for him. I may be mistaken but this is Rex's last year under contract and if thats the case he deserves a two year extension.

He is the best coach we have had since Bill Parcels and is a phenominal motivator and Defensive Genius. In 2009 and 2010 we saw what he could do with a great roster. The main problem with Rex is that he has been given a team engineered by Tanny the former GM. In the last two years he was given the NFLs worst QB and a team destroyed by injuries. The important thing to remember is his track record. With a good roster he has proven he could get the job done leading us to two AFC championship games and led a team with swagger.

We now have a very young and unproven team who will be forced to play at a high level just to save Rex's job. I think that its unfair for a man that has already proven he can make a mediocre defense great and a good team reach their potential. Lets give Rex the ability to follow this team through the rebuilding process and see what he can do with a rebuilt roster.

I say Rex is not the problem here and I think we all know Tanny destroyed this team and was rightfully fired. Lets give Rex the opportunity to follow through with this process and show what he can do with a good team. Following this year we will have a tremendous amount of cap room and a lot of draft picks and I would love to see what Rex can do again with a good team. I have faith in Rex and so should all of you, he should not be judged based off a team with no talent but rather what he could do under a team where the GM does his job.

Let Rex coach for his job. The fans deserve that much.

The real question is, if Rex goes, who is the alternative? Only coaches I want are Gruden or Cowher. And that's not happening.

Rex actually has 2 years left on his contract.
so an immediate extension is not really necessary.

I do absolutely agree though that Rex is the right long term coach, but needs to be paired with an experienced OC who he gels with..

I don't think that he's on his last year. I believe he has one more after this.

If he doesn't, then yeah I agree, we should offer him an extension. There are a lot of players who talk really good about Rex and many that really like playing for him. Even if this is his last year under contract, I think that if Idzik offers him a deal next year, he'd accept. That's the thing that I like most about Rex, he is a true Jets fan.

I believe Rex is under contract through 2014. I'd expect the Jets to give him an extension this year if the Jets are playing well and the rebuild is moving forward and for him to be coaching for his job in 2014 if not.

The mantra under Idzik is competition and that includes Rex. He needs to show improvement this season to get an extension.

FTR, I like Rex as HC and hope he gets extended.

    Cowher? Gross.

Give Rex 12 more years on the Jets and I bet you he matches Cowhers 1 Super Bowl win, maybe even surpasses it.

We need to ride the waves with Rex. We just need an AVERAGE offense.

Imagine what we could do with an elite defense and a top 10 offense. Dynasty?

The only guy giving him an extension with 2 years left on his deal just got fired as the GM a few months ago.

And I like Rex a lot.

I say there's little to no chance that Rex gets let go, barring a disaster season. We are rebuilding, it's not really fair to judge Rex on this upcoming year, but I'll go ahead and predict we do better than last year's team, which will be enough for an extension or at the very least another year. I agree that Rex is unfairly criticized over his personality. How many quote mines have the media used against him in the last couple years? Too many to count. It's hilarious that the average football fan actually thinks it's Rex's fault, somehow. It has nothing to do with Sanchez putting up record level turnovers, and Tanny giving him a contract that binds us to him. It's all Rex! That jerk doesn't know enough about offense! Too funny. Rex will be back next year and the same haters will all be upset about it because they don't like his personality, even if we win the superbowl.

First time poster here, and I must say it feels good to be talking football again. Hypothetically, if Rex gets canned after this season, who do you think would be a (realistic) replacement??

 at betraying a 3rd string QB caliber player by not playing him much. Stop acting like people owe Tebow playing time. They do not. He has to earn it and quite frankly he didn't do it last year.

  20. This team has a solid foundation. It is young, talented & deep along both lines. W/ some serious athletes at both DB & RB. What's missing from the equation is the window dressing, specifically on offense. The passing game needs a complete makeover. From QB-TE-WR. They lack any sort of intermediate route/over the middle type passing game(A must in the WCO).This group isn't gonna light up the field year 1. More likely the Jets could see a success w/ the power running game & some downfield play action out of it. Hill,Kerley,Holmes & Cumberland can all run the seam;Goodson,Ivory & Mcknight all decent safety valves. Marty's gonna have to feature the athletes year 1, cause the Jets don't have the passer nor the route runners for a true WCO.
