Agreed, I don't think it works in either place but Miami is sure to fail IMO.

I think it could work in Orlando. Their team just beat Colorado Rapids in the USOC and they get good fan support from what I read.

That's what I was thinking too, I've read they get pretty good support in Orlando. The reserach triangle in North Carolina I also think would work. That being said none of them are as flashy as Miami. It's a bad idea, they don't even support what they have excpet the Heat for obvious reasons.

If anything Las Vegas should be recruiting Becks to bring it to Vegas. I guess it was in his contract that he gets some ridiculous option to start a franchise and I think Las Vegas and Beckham are a great fit. Issue is I don't think our current stadium has the correct sideline dimensions to host an MLS team.

US with a huge win over Jamaice last night in Kingston. 1st time US has won in Jamaica in WC Qualifying. I was hoping for a draw but a W is certainly awesome. 7 points through 4 games while Mexico has 7 points through 5.

US has a real chance to put some distance between them and 4th and 5th place this upcoming week. 2 wins should pretty much put them in.

Hopefully USA cane make it to the World Cup

I have connections in Brazil due to work and I am hoping to make it to Brazil for World Cup unless a major fuck up at work.

My home country Turkey is pretty much eliminated so it will be nice to have USA to cheer for.

Assuming England makes it I'll be in Brazil next year. My co-workers from our UK office secured a package deal for the first 3 England games (will there be any more than that? Ha!) so if they qualify I will be going with 9 other friends to follow them around for the first round. Hopefully can catch up with the US team or Brazil team for a game as well.

Not really sure to be honest, but I know it's going to be expensive. I've put $750 USD down to secure my tickets to 3 games and have one more payment to make. I'm using air miles for my flight, and I'm sharing hotels (which is likely to be very expensive even if shared). Brazil is huge and I've heard the games are not likely to be grouped too closely geographically so I'll probably get raped on my internal flights also... all in all I'm being realistic and understand I will spend a ridiculous amount, but I knew that from the start and it's my 40th b-day gift to myself.

When I get specifics I'll share more detail.

Yeah Turks in trouble... 4th in their group and not really great teams in that group. Outside of the Dutch that group is meh.

The English are in a tough group. Montenegro leads but just got thrashed by Ukraine and has played an extra game. Good news for England is next game is against Moldova so that should be a W to put them on top of the group.

There are some really interesting Euro groups right now but as of now it looks like

    Belguim
    Germany
    Holland

are in really good shape to become the 1st teams to qualify. Bosnia leads their group by 3 points but has a +20 GD.

Asian Qualifying is also very interesting, I think Japan has qualified with 3 more guarunteed spots.

Uzbekistan, South Korea and Iran are fighting for 2 spots. Korea and the Uzbeks are tied with 11 points and Iran has 10. Korea leads on GD. Korea plays Uzbekistan on Tuesday and Iran plays bottom of the table Lebanon in Tehran. Korea has a tough road as they play both Uzbekistan and Iran however both games are in Korea.

On the other side 4 teams alive for 1 spot. Iraq has 5 points but will be eliminated when they lose or draw to Japan on Tuesday. Jordan and Australia each have 7 points and Oman has 9. Jordan and the Aussies have 2 games remaining and play each other in Australia on Tuesday while Oman's last game is on the 18th against Jordan.

I would bet that Iran and South Korea qualify as well as Australia. That would leave Uzbekistan in a playoff against whoever finishes 3rd between Jordan and Oman. The wnner of that playoff than plays the 5th South American team.

On tenderhooks , oz needs to beat jordan tomorrow night and iraq next week for direct qualification, 2 play offs are disaters waiting to happen. Japan had big wins early which took gd out of the equation . Australia again fell to a last minute penalty in japan after taking the lead with minutes to go.A win would have eased the pressure.

Yeah, I hate the whole playoff thing, you have to do it in Europe with over 50 teams in UEFA but I'd much prefer to see FIFA do away with intercontinental playoffs. Africa changed their qualifying up this time around as well. They have 10 groups and the top team from each group will now go into a pool and there will be 5 playoffs between them. The winners of those playoffs qualify. Right now Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa are in danger of being eliminated before the playoff.

I think with both games in Australia you guys will get through but a draw or even worse a loss could mean disaster. Japan looks to be the best side in Asia right now but it'd be pretty amazing if both Korea and Australia somehow managed to not qualify while Uzbekistan and Oman did.

I get that Seattle has great soccer support, but why does the USMNT insist on (1) playing there if they have Field Turf; and (2) making them put sod down over the field turf (the sod sits on trays placed over the field turf).

It's really fucking stupid IMO. The field will be bumpy, sticky, have seams and holes, and tear apart quickly. One would think that such a field favors Panama, whose players are more accustomed to playing on shitty fields. Sorry Seattle, but you shouldn't be hosting a WC qualifier.

South Korea beat Uzbekistan 1-0 so I think they qualify with a draw or loss from Iran. Gotta feel bad for the Uzbeks, it was an own goal that gave the Koreans the W. I'm actually pulling for Iran to beat Lebanon because that would mean even though Uzbekistan would fall to 3rd in the group with Korea playing Iran and neither team qualified it's a must win for both teams while Uzbekistan plays Qatar in Tashkent.

Actually I think Korea may have qualified because they at worst tie with Uzbekistan but advance on GD.

It also should be noted that the Japan/Iraq game is being played in Doha , Qatar and not in Iraq.

Mexico looks completely out of ideas. A year ago they seemed like a young up and coming team.

the Yanks looking confident early vs Panama

Another full house at Yankee Stadium for a soccer game with very little meaning. That soccer is sure to fail in the US.
