I found this quite interesting. I was browsing Bovada last night, and I've always been one to disagree with Vegas odds and look for favorable odds to exploit.

Vegas odds of Jets winning 2013 superbowl: 100/1

This is a HUGE drop from last season. At the very end of 2011 after that 3 game collapse, the odds were 18/1 for the 2012 VLT. After the draft, it dropped to 20/1. At the end of the preseason it was something like 28/1.

Vegas odds of Jets winning the AFC championship in 2013: 40/1

I find this interesting as well. Shouldn't it be 50/1? I don't like the odds on this one.

Vegas odds of Jets winning their division in 2013: 10/1

The worst bet of them all. In all reality I think the Jets are MORE LIKELY to win the superbowl, than their division, as crazy as that sounds. This team reminds me of 2009. They look like crap at the moment, but have a few very strong areas and the potential to outperform the expectations based on the amount of rookies in the mix. I'd say there's no chance of the Jets having a better record than the Pats this year, but they could be a dark horse team that gets it together late in the year and gets some upsets in the playoffs.

    So that's the Jets.

Back to superbowl odds: The only teams with worse odds than the Jets are Jacksonville at 200/1, Raiders at 150/1, Bills 125/1 (worse than Jets?), Cards 125/1. Titans are also 100/1.

Looking at the rest, one team that jumps out at me here is the Bucs. They are 50/1 and could very well be a good team. They addressed their biggest hole, and already have a top 10 offense. I'm loving those odds. Here's a few more I like:

    Vikings 40/1
    Colts 40/1
    Lions 40/1
    Bengals 33/1
    Saints 18/1

All of these seem incredibly low for the potential of these teams, especially the Saints & Bucs, who I feel will be contenders this year.

If you are like me and like throwing down a few bucks on dark horse teams before the season, those teams above are probably your best bets. In all likelihood you'll lose the money, but the potential is there to turn 10 bucks into several hundred. Or even just 1 into 40+. It's an affordable loss vs a potentially huge gain.

Anyways, I'm not saying I recommend these bets, I just like the odds based on team potential and probably will throw 20 bucks split up among those teams in case one of them comes through and gets me paid. :) I'll put less money on the higher payouts (worse odds). I do this every year and I came close with the Seahawks last year, although I can't remember what the the odds were. The NFL is so flukey and changes so fast that it actually seems worthy to make bets like this. If it were the NBA, hell no.

They took 50 points from the jets and gave them to the Bucs. Not sure why. Bahahahha!

Great thread (that I hope doesn't get hijacked haha)

With most of the sports, I put a few bucks on future props, so even if I run out, I have a great chance of getting some credit later. I might get some nice credit if the Heat win the title soon.

Anyway, here are the bets I've had made already for quite awhile, some I like myself.

First is risk, then reward, then the line:

    .50/57.50 +11500 Arizona Cardinals
    3.50/59.50 +1700 Atlanta Falcons
    2/32 +1600 Pitt Steelers..then again on a different day...
    2/36 +1800 Pitt Steelers
    9.50/100 +1050 Green Bay Packers
    4/80 +2000 New Orleans Saints
    1/28 +2800 Cincinnati Bengals
    1/30 +3000 Washington Redskins
    2/40 +2000 New York Giants
    2/80 +4000 Indianapolis Colts
    2/90 +4500 Carolina Panthers

Today on THE HERD with Colin Cowherd, he said the Jets will be a mess and gave them a (5-11) record.

Colin Cowturd's entire show is a mess. I can't believe anyone can tolerate listening to that annoying twat talk through his nose for 3 hours.

Very true. He is a dick, too. I just listened to the NFL preview that ESPN Radio posted of him. I didn't expect him to trash the Jets. He basically gave the entire AFC East no credit though, saying Patriots (10-6), Dolphins (9-7), Bills (6-10) and Jets (5-11).

I can't stand that pompous douche, but unfortunately I think 5-11 is a very realistic prediction.

People have been predicting 4-6 wins for the Jets since the off season began. That's nothing new, especially from Coward. He's been saying that shit for a while. No worries. The lower they rank the Jets, the higher the potential payout.

    Weird fact.

Since 2009 the team that played in the Eagle's home opener has gone on to win the Super Bowl.

    This year it's the Chargers.

    Good luck with that.

I work with a Pats fan and the first year they won the SB they had lost the first two games of the season and the Vegas odds at that point were 80:1 (maybe even higher, 200:1?, I can't recall the exact odds but they were REALLY bad, especially after losing their first 2 games). I was in Vegas at the time and got him a $10 ticket. After the Pats won the SB he gave me $50 for thinking of his dumb ass!

Anyway my bro is a hob-nob in Vegas now so I'll send him a $20 check....'JETS TO WIN IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Are there any mathematicians on here that know what 200 times $20 comes out to???

    Good thread.

I always make some money with NFL but the game is so exciting that in some point of the season I lose control and bet in every game and then flush all the profit in the toilet.

This year though I'm thinking in use a more strategic approach, with goals, %'s, some stop markers, etc...I will pick up a budget and then define a goal, like 50% of profit, it's not that difficult. If and only if you have control. That's the problem I have to address.

Also, about this long term bets in underdogs, this is probably the best time of the year to bet, because there's information avaiable and training camp didn't start yet.

This Colts 40/1 really worth a shot.

$4,000. Not bad. Hold on a sec though. You give your pal a ticket, he ends up making $2,000 off of it and only gives you $50? Seems low. haha.
