    good article.

it will be interesting to see this progress.
i'm a little nervous but i have faith in Rex to put him in a position to succeed. Rex has been pretty adept at personnel determining scheme, as opposed to other way around.
His scheme flexibility and creativity along the defense is probably his strongest asset as a coach.

Coples will def have to work hard, and be eager to learn quite a bit, in order to get the most flexibility out of this move.

The bright side to asking Coples to do this is that he has to stay very engaged during the process. There's no room to get comfortable or potentially take plays off since he's on edge all the time.

We'll see, hopefully it works out.

I'm glad they didn't have him lose weight. I hate when they mess with peoples weight trying to make them into something they are not comfortable with.

Also I'm glad he is taking this as an opportunity to learn and become more versatile.

Also also I'm excited to see what Rex is up to. Opposing lines and qbs will have no idea what our guys are doing pre snap. Going to be fun to watch.

I keep seeing Wilkerson lined up over the right guard, Ellis or Harrison lined up over the center and Richardson lined up over the left guard with Coples standing up in the 1 between the NT and Richardson. Demario Davis shaded over behind Richardson.

What the heck is the offense going to do to get that under control?

To the right where Pace is sitting or to the left where Davis is shaded?

I was actually thinking the most likely responses would be to call time out or audible into a screen to the left, where Davis is shaded.

I don't think either of those guys are an intimidating force that teams would be scared to run at.

I'm iffy about it also but if it keeps Coples on his toes and it doesn't stop him from rushing inside then it might work out.

Rex wasn't all that happy with Coples last year although he got more comfortable with him as the season progressed. I guess it's a good thing that he has Coples on his mind right now.

Coples has rare speed for his size. His 40 yard dash from his combine would have him tenth among d-linemen this season. Coples is quick, he's strong, and he's got good moves. He's got potential to wreak serious havoc.

Wow.. Wiki says he ran a 4.7 at the combine.... nice for a 285 pounder... you could be right.. lets hope he adjusts well.

This is a great point, but at his size (he is the heaviest LB in the NFL by far), will he have the motor to run around all game.

Idk how you guys expect somebody that's 6'6 to only weight 250 lbs?? If you look at the guy he's has an athletic frame n is a freak.

I don't see why not. It takes tons of energy to run around and play the super physical game up front and he had no problem doing that.

And on top of that, he's not going to be playing the same role as your typical OLB. As he said in the article, he'll probably be moving all over the place in Rex's scheme. The OLB title is just a title...

iirc he had trouble playing extended minutes for parts of last year because of lack of endurance.

Tbh, there are only a few actual positions on Rex's defenses. There are CB1, CB2, random-DBs, and random-interior players who may be linemen and/or linebackers. It's why I love his defenses. You never know what the hell he's going to throw at you.

I'm not really too worried about his position designation. Moot point in Rex's defense.

All I know is this is going to be the fastest defense the Jets have had in a very very long time.

Adalius Thomas was a big LB that thrived in Rex's system at Bmore. He was 270 and slower than Coples. Used down and standing. Went to the Cheatriots for big money and wasnt the same. I think Rex knows how he wants to use him and how to get the most out of him. JMO
