https://twitter.com/MMehtaNYDN/status/342348945105747969 The receiver situation is getting ugly... Jets coach Rex Ryan admits there's a "possibility" Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc) could begin training camp on the active/PUP list. It's a bit surprising, as Holmes will be nearly 10 full months removed from going down when camp rolls around. Lisfranc injuries are serious business, but they don't usually require almost an entire year of recovery time. It's not news the Jets need to hear with Stephen Hill's (knee) status also murky. The Jets' thin and inexperienced receiver corps is going to give whoever's under center fits this season.
Do you have a link or a source? Can you guys please follow the thread starting standards described here? http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=77040 edit: I've updated your misleading thread title to include the actual quote by Rex and meet our thread starting standards.
What was misleading about asking the question of Santonio being on the PUP?? I don't see how your revised headline changed the implication of the news in any way. Nevertheless, my bad for not providing the source.
Because there is a huge difference between saying "Holmes could start the season on the PUP" and "Holmes could start training camp on the PUP". The season starts in September. Training camp starts in July. If you weren't aware of the difference, that's just another reason to stick with the simple rules that were laid out.
Don't worry we have a deep receiving corp featuring guys like Clyde Gates, Jeremy Kerley, Marcus Davis, Jordan White etc. So we're in good shape even if Hill and Holmes aren't ready.
If Kerley and Hill are our starters going into the season, then we have the worst receiving corp in the league by a huge margin. Throw in our incompetant QB into the mix, and I really think we should say goodbye to Rex now. EDIT: Something, I'd like to add: I understand this team is short on money, but in this scenario, I would really think they should have brought a stop gap vet receiver in here. Holes like this could take us down 2-4 wins this season if something isn't done. You never want to have seasons like that. Its not like we are scary on the ground like in '09 anymore. If we can't run + no reliable receivers then we simply have no offense.
Ever since Alosi tripped that Dolphins player and got fired, this team hasn't been close to healthy. Re-hire this beast!
Still too many mental errors and accuracy problems that stemmed from Sanchez. But nevertheless, the receivers were Tannys undoing. He got cute by thinking he got a steal in Holmes and got rid of the chemistry (Braylon and Cotch). He missed on Hill (at least last year) to fill the void. I would even argue Holmes was a big reason Tanny was fired, he got complacent thinking the receiving corp was a lot better than it actually was.
beginning to think the decision not to take a WR in april - especially in the 1st 4 or so rounds is gonna bite us in the ass. there was some good talent to be had.
What is it about the wide receiver position that makes this organization consistently ignore it? Even if Holmes, Kerley and Hill were healthy that is still an ok at best core.
While last seasons group wasn't great the majority of the issues on offense was Sanchez please don't get that twisted.
yeah if u go back and look at how many high picks, say 1st 3 rounds, the jets have spent on a WR the past 10-15 years - it cant be more than 5. off the top of the head - coles - 3rd round in 2000, moss - 1st in 2001, hill - 2nd last year. who else??
