You're also running your prize young arm into the ground that way when you frequently have him go 115-120 pitches deep in his first full season. I don't want to Strausberg/Joba the kid but I don't want to have him be ruined like Prior and Wood were with Dusty Baker either, especially in a hopeless season.
Its not a "subway series", its 4 regular season games. What "series" has an even amount of games? These 4 games are no different then the next 4.
Every 2 game series throughout the year has an even amount of games. The Mets swept 2 in a row this week. Also the Summit Series in 72 had 8 games.
I hardly think the Mets are ruining his arm by having him pitch deep into games. Once he hits 200 innings, its likely he'll be shut down for the season anyway.
Yup. And.....back to normal. Team hit very poorly against the Yanks and got great pitching. Won't win games scoring 1 run a game.
Pretty much... Gee was phenominal, Hefner pitched his best game of the year and Harvey gets a shutout if not for Marlon Byrd's error. Other than one game the Mets had no bats.
They are about to lose the series to the Marlins. That negate all the temporary good feelings I was having after the Yankees series.
So much for even the slightest notion that the five game winning streak meant much of anything long-term.
Very unusual situation this game - Harvey pitches poorly, but his hitters (especially Davis) bail him out, and now he needs the bullpen to pick him up.
Ok well, after this series I think it's pretty clear the Mets will lose somewhere between 90-100 games. Some changes have to made.... 1) Call up Wheeler. 2) Cut Byrd, Hawkins, Ankiel (won't happen), Quintanilla, or anyone else over the age of 35 3) Call up anyone.
I'll bet Collins thought he had saved his job after his supposed stirring leadership against the Yankees. I don't think so. MParty, I would add replacing Collins with Backman to your list.
