we dont need a vet, we need to develope players. signing stop gaps who may or may not have 1 more year in the tank does not help develope young talent. i like idzicks style. get a bunch of young kids buried in depth charts and see if some of them to play. this is how you find players
I don't get why people want Brandon Lloyd ... he has had ONE season in the NFL that was exceptional. Last year with Brady throwing to him he had a decent year, but nothing special. He is basically an average receiver, now over 30 who has played in only 70% of the games since he was drafted. He has had an okay career for a player that was taken in the 4th round, but at this point I don't see him as a must have. Let the youngsters battle it out.
People want Brandon Lloyd because he's a veteran that can actually play. Our current depth chart is Holmes, Hill, Kerley and then a bunch of unknowns. Holmes is coming off a big injury, Hill is coming of a poor rookie campaign and an injury. We need quality players. If a youngster surprises and shows he can play a large role in the offense, we could always cut Lloyd. As LTJF said, he could walk in and be our best receiver.
I feel if they wanted Braylon back they would of signed him by now. We've gone through some OTAs already. MM has an idea of the players we have on the roster.
That play while it was boneheaded doesn't absolve Braylon from mentoring Geno. I understand the logic of developing young players but at the same time this team needs to have players that can step in and play right away. We need insurance in the event Hill still isn't ready. Not to mention all the other receivers like Gates, Rogers etc that may need more time to groom. Braylon not catching the ball is overblown btw.
As much as I hate Holmes, I think Holmes is the better player. Only because Lloyd is kind of old I believe.
Yes ... I understand what you are saying (and not trying to argue, just stating my opinion). What I am saying is he is NOT the quality player the Jets need. He is an okay depth player, and I don't believe he helps the Jets in their current state of affairs. Just look at his career .... http://www.nfl.com/player/brandonlloyd/2505600/careerstats . What from that tells you he is a quality player that is a must have? I guess I just don't see it - and feel that the Jets would be better served letting the youngsters play and develop.
THIS x100. You never know what you're gonna get out of Holmes. Gives up way too many plays. I have yet to see Brandon Lloyd give up on a play. The guy caught multiple passes FULLY stretched out. AND he has softer (better) hands. For Christ sake the guy wears a 4x Glove. Only the likes of Terrell Owens and Hakeem Nicks have hands THAT big. He would instantly be the best receiver on our roster.
I completely agree. Quit signing overpriced, washed up guys who don't play special teams! And Lloyd was cut by the Pats for being a locker room cancer - Hell, they thought he was bipolar. Is that really the type of "mentor" this team needs? Is Braylon (Maybe, if he's cheap and keeps his nose clean but he gives you nothing on special teams)? Is Schillens? Is Holmes? The only thing keeping Holmes rostered is his contract. Until we get our QB sorted out, it doesn't matter if we have Andre and Calvin Johnson at WR. They aren't getting the ball, so why overpay or pay for malcontents and over the hill talent? Find bargains to fill holes and develop the young guys young talent.
I think I picked up this guy a couple years ago in fantasy as a 'sleeper.' Needless to say he did nothing.....
I like Holmes. I think that he's a good receiver. I don't like him as a #1, but as a #2 or slot, he's very good. He was on pace for a good year last season until he got hurt. Also I got to add, I don't like him for the price were paying for him.
This is another good cheap signing. 90% of the guys in camp should be candidates to play on special teams. That way the competition can pay off for a guy in multiple ways depending on how much effort he puts in and how much skill he demonstrates in the process. The Jets had a really bad special teams talent pool last year. That's why Mike Westhoff had one of his worst seasons just before he retired.
I only know of him from Madden, when me and my friends play the Seahawks came up a lot. I specifically remember a time I said "who the hell is Ben Obomanu?" then he had over 300 receiving yds at the end of the game.
