Not really a fan of this. Let Geno start and Sanchez back him up. Release Sanchez end of the year and depending on what Geno has done decide on your QB situation.

Well, we are the Jets, no matter who we would sign at QB the media will have a feild day. Can't you just see the headlines..

"Jets sign vet QB, Is Sanchez next to go?"

"Jets ink QB, is Geno already a bust?"

"Jets release 7 th string corner, Rex kills three children and eats them"

.... That's the way of the NY Media.

    This is a good point,

but I feel like JaMarcus Russell brings more of that than let's say J.P. Losman.

Perhaps, but its worlds less than the last backup QB we brought in. The Russell story is little more than an interesting side note, it will only become huge if he makes a big time comeback.

I think if we sign him, the stories start immediately, even if he's listed as a practice team QB.

You are right though, everything media coverage wise is a downgrade for last year's backup

Let me premise my response by saying that I enjoy your insight into the NYJ and applaud your unwavering support for Sanchez.
I think last season was an anomaly caused by many factors; some as you well pointed out had nothing to do with Sanchez. I also believe Sanchez will do much better this year with a solid OL, a running game and a good if not great OC.
However, I do not believe for a second that the Jets are committed to Sanchez for the long run at all. If anything, they feel they are stuck with Sanchez for the near term and hoping and praying that he will prove them wrong. I’m not convinced that the brass feels he has the goods to grow from where he is now to the level they, and we, want him to be. They are only committed to the absolute minimum to give him a chance…that’s it.
In their minds I feel they are hoping that Geno exceeds expectations sooner than later so they can move on after this season. I further speculate that if contract was not such a big issue he might not have been given a chance at all.
I hope you are right and Sanchez proves us wrong and kicks ass, but I don’t feel he has the confidence of the GM and the coaching staff at this point.

  9. It doesn't matter what QB the jets sign, the media will spin it to create pessimism & controversy. No way Russel would command the media obsession that last year's back-up did.

This move would be more about competition than anything that's gonna transfer to game day. His upside is basically being the 3rd stringer.

Sanchez is obviously gone if they sign another QB. As somebody on NFL.com said you don't bash your QB on the second day of OTAs unless the writing is on the wall.

Not a fan of Russel at all. Has shown nothing to suggest that he could be a decent starter in the NFL. That being said, I'd take him in a heartbeat over Muck - huge upgrade.

Still not nearly as bad as 300 pound, purple drank chugging, interception throwing, biggest bust of all-time Jamarcus Russell. Not even close IMO.

He may have been receiving interest but nobody seems to want to sign him.

I agree with 90% of that. Starting with the simple fact the organization is not committed long term. They seem to have been however. Committed to seeing it through this year.

They were at least 12 mil under and could have brought in a bigger threat than Garrard.

With Geno on the roster. The downside is much smaller, if the Change in OC is not the cure.

The best option for Everybody is MM gets Sanchez right, and Geno continues to grow....they're both signed for at least 3 more years, and...the longer Sanchez can perform like he is supposed to, the better it will be managing the cap, going forward. When Geno hits that second contract.

However, there is zero downside for the team after this season, if they part ways with Sanchez.
