There is this thing called Salary Cap in this league. Jets are currently at 100M or so, with 20M dead money (Revis says hi.) Good luck finding that good FA QB with that.
Well he doesn't have to be 'good' per se. Just serviceable. I can't imagine Charlie Batch will cost anything more than vet min...
Well I'll say this about the Jets press conference, if your trying to salvage any trade value you don't say he sucked...you build him up. The fact their talking him up means their trying to build value, either in the fans eyes or other teams....but given his record that's a boat that won't fly.
Nothing the Jets say is going to improve Sanchez's trade value - which at this point is likely nothing. The only way they get something in trade for Sanchez is if he gets significant playing time and plays very well. If that happens the Jets probably want to keep him unless he's injured and Geno fills in well.
Running from the argument like a little bitch. Just say "I'm never ever everrrrr gonna leave my bff" and I'll leave you alone.
And what kind of result are you expecting out of that vet min QB? What kind of W/L record are you shooting for in the first place? I am asking since if you want journeyman QB as a starter, I don't see why riding out Sanchez makes less sense than that kind of stupidity.
lol year 5 and Rex is still saying "Sanchez must improve" cut this fuckin bum already its the same stroy every year he is trash and he always will be
So long as he doesn't turn the ball over like it's his job, I'm not overly concerned with W/L. If Geno can't start (which I want him to do), I want him to sit and learn behind someone not named Sanchez.
Cmon Bitch Beach....All Sanchez needs to do is perform poorly, given an adequate set of circumstances. No more, No Less, and Id be looking for change. The simple fact is, the guy has endured one losing season, which...unless im mistaken, is a mark Tannehill has already matched, even though the fins basically bought him his pre existing offense. And...FWIW, when he repeats said record...after the free agent shopping spree...will you be looking to dump him? My opinion, is based on the lack of support the organization has given the QB. You have no such luxury. He sucks this year...they cut him and move on. I just think it absurd to not give a decent OC, and for the first time ever....a returning set of WR,to a guy that has shown he can take you deep into the playoffs.... You know, that part of the season youve been watching other teams play in.
Yawn...top in turnovers and fumbles over the past 4 years, bottom of the league in every measurable over the past 4 years. 1 year over 17 TD's, 1 year under 18 interceptions, 0 years under 9 fumbles, 2 years 10 or more fumbles. 0 years over 57% completions, 3 years under 55%. You argued that Schotty had never led a top 20 offense, got awfully quiet after it being pointed out he had 2 top 10 seasons with the Jets, and was on his way to a third till the QB got injured. Facts are facts, winning is generally a team effort, and never more so than when your QB has never even been average at his position. Never more so when in the years the team won the only thing the Jets needed him to do was not screw up too badly, and that shows in the playoffs....minimal impact, minimal effect. He's been a subpar performer his entire career who if he had played on just about any other team would be labled a loser and never was at this point in time.
The best QB should start, period. If Sanchez is the best, start him. If Geno is the best, start him. If somehow McElroy is the best, start him. I just want to see decent-good QB play, I don't care who it's from. I'm tired of seeing garbage from the most important position on the field.
None of this is related at all to the discussion in this thread. But I'll play. -The funny thing about saying he needs to play "poorly" in an "adequate" set of circumstances is that it leaves you room to backpedal, as you get to define what those terms mean. Most people will tell you that Sanchez already has played "poorly" in an "adequate" set of circumstances. Everyone on this forum has already witnessed you backpedaling, as last year you said that Sanchez would succeed merely by Schotty leaving. When that wasn't the case you backpedaled. Sure Sparano sucked, sure there were injuries, but Sanchez didn't hold serve. He didn't just play bad in the context of the entire offense playing bad. He played absolutely awful to the point that he was a major reason why the offense was so bad. Watching him made you wonder if he just said fuck it and didn't care. Pro QBs can't do that. He actually pressed the accelerator on already bad circumstances. -"No support" is another vague term that you get to define as you please. Having a great o-line, run game and D your first couple of years is more support than most QBs get. Those 3 combined are much more important than solely having first round offensive talent.
Ok...hopefully you all do not have a basket of rotten eggs or rancid lettuce......BUT.....would anyone have a problem with bringing Jeff Garcia in? He is tough as nails and he would be a perfect mentor for the two of these young QB's. He knows the system in and out and, to be honest, I'd lay money he could win a game or two in a pinch. I couldn't see a whole season but a game or two. Caveat this...has anyone heard if David Garrard has taken Rex's offer to be a "consultant"/ Coach through training camp??
I'm thinking bring in a vet only if they cut Sanchez before camp. In that situation Trent Edwards is probably the guy you want to go get. He knows Marty M's system and won't roll over for Geno in camp. He's also a decent backup QB.
Sanchez may not have a high trade value for teams searching for a franchise QB...but I can think of at least 4 teams that would be thrilled to have him as their #1 backup...those being the 4 teams he beat, in their own house, in the playoffs.
