Didn't say they they lose their identity - keeping their cultural influences is part of America. Not becoming American full heartedly is what is lacking. There are too many 1st 2nd generation Americans who find the prefix more important than the American part.

Comes with the territory. Irish and German immigrants didn't stop being Irish and German because they settled in this country during the land rush.

You are contradicting yourself. I have met more people that trace their roots to understand where they came from and call themselves part-this and part-that.

When you are in this country, you are American. Sometimes you like to tell people how you became that way. Sometimes you use a prefix.

Your idealism is unrealistic and obtuse.

The main problem with that prefix is when someone tries to leverage racial privilege with it.

I think your are being slightly obtuse - how am I contradicting myself? what I am trying to say is that we all have roots. It's how we choose to emphasize those roots. The strongest emotions and ties are the immigrants directly from their home country who become American citizens. You would think the 1st 2nd generation Americans would place less emphasis on the "home" country. Nothing wrong with interest and searching for your heritage - just don't make it only who you are. Is it nice I am 2nd generation Irish American? - sure it is. Tracked my heritage many years ago but trust me it's irish American not Irish american.

    Bull****.

Arabs and Palestinians are NOTORIOUS for lying and propogandizing. They've been doing it for decades, centuries in fact.

Look at the lies they told during Jenin -- "hundreds of innoncents slaughtered" -- when in fact it was about 50 terrorists, most with guns and weapons.

Look at the lies during the 1967 Six-Day War: they told their masses that the Egyptian, Syrian, and Jordanian armies would be linking up in Tel Aviv. Yeah, right.....

I'm kind of shocked nobody's referenced an actual tweet of his that's far more objectionable than the drivel in that right wing trash:

    https://twitter.com/Oday_Aboushi75/status/334659448708665344
The Nakba, for the uninitiated, is Arabic for "The Catastrophe." If you're wondering what terrible event could have earned that title, it was the founding of the state of Israel--technically, the division of Mandatory Palestine into Jewish and Muslim spheres. The next day, of course, the long-established Arab countries attacked Israel, and the nascent Israel, through some miracle, was able to emerge even stronger. As more wars followed the same script, Israel's grown even more powerful to the extent that it is now. But let's keep in mind the "Catastrophe", as our new offensive lineman puts it. It's not the defeat of being pushed into Gaza and the West Bank, it's not the Palestinian diaspora that's created refugees across the Middle East (because none of their Arab neighbors will take them in). No, it's the creation and recognition of the Jewish state, so pretty damn implicit is the realization that these people--and yes, clearly Oday Aboushi is one of them--won't stop until the Nakba is undone, and there is no Israel anymore.

I have no problem with a Muslim on this football team. I have no problem with a Palestinian. I do have a problem with someone who denies my right to exist as a Jew, and who denies my people the right to our homeland. It's a shame, because by all other accounts, Aboushi is a good, smart, kid, who's done pretty much everything right. It's a shame he's been brainwashed like this.

It is known as the Nakba because millions of Palestinians lost there homes in a blink of an eye. If the USA was divided in half. And many people lost their homes, jobs, farms.... Would you not consider that a catastrophe?

And how the fuck do you get " denies my right to exist as a Jew... denies my people the right to our homeland" from that tweet. Just because somebody is anti ISRAELI does not make them antisemitic. Zionism and Judaism are not synonymous.

BTW I am a long time jet fan, and a Palestinian American.

Remind me again, who divided land formerly known as Palestine?

Oh...Right...the British. Continuing their ham handed attempts at colonialism, into the mid 20th century.

So, to recap, around 1918 Britain acquires a piece of property. Chooses to subdivide it. And then we blame the guy that bought the seafront property, because they got a good deal (shifty Jews)....hey...Maybe Russia should ask for Alaska back.

At least theyd get the fucking oil out of it.
