The AZ and TN game was some of the worst QB play of the year. Sanchez should not be playing that poorly with me, Hobbes and NYJunc as his receivers.

I think he can bounce back.

Every QB can still be a good QB. It's what Sanchez has to work on and where has to be that is worrisome. He played like a rookie last year, that needs to improve. But he can't be just alright in the new offense, he really has to get better and help maximize himself in the offense, not just be a QB who looks good because the offense helps him.

When you are rebuilding, it's BPA. Getting Mark Sanchez weapons is risky because after last year there is an all too real possibility Mark doesn't play well, then what? You invested highly in these WR or TE and all of a sudden have no QB to throw to them. You reach for a QB next year, reach, and then wait for the QB to be able to use the weapons, then the weapons leave as QB hopefully gets better. It's a multi year process, the WR core if healthy is Holmes, Hill , Kerley. That's not terrible, the worrisome part is IF Healthy.

Yes yes yes Wilson played better, see one of my previous posts.

Yes Mark did not get help. Yes his talent and coaching was subpar this year (scary enough the RZ efficiency for TDs was better this year than in 2010), but this whole lack of talent idea doesn't excuse some of the mistakes he made.

Take this terrible analogy. It's like driving a car from point A to point B (long drive aka long 16 game season) as quickly/safely as possible. Sanchez had a new BMW his first couple years and he drove the car well as its driver. The car never seemed to hit it's max capabilities but it drove well and got the job done. This past year he was given a 1997 Dodge Neon (car people correct me but I'm 99% sure a new BMW is better than a 97 Neon). Yes the Dodge Neon didn't perform better than the BMW, that's on the Neon. But that doesn't excuse Sanchez from forgetting to wear his seatbelt, blowing through stop signs, missing turns. The car isn't at fault there, that's on the driver. It would take a superhuman performance for this Neon to perform like the BMW but it doesn't mean everything wrong that happened is the car's fault.

Does it make sense, probably not, but that's where I'm coming from.

Oh and if Sanchez is on the roster, he 100% deserves a chance to battle for the starting spot and be a starter. I say that for any QB on the roster in August.

Well, I guess I'm done posting in this thread, we should just release Sanchez and start the mary go round again with Geno, I'm sure there will be a Geno sucks thread too next year, or by week 5.

We will then rate him VS others who haven’t accomplished as much in a TEAM sport (the QB is the leader of the team, hence why we are having this discussion) and fail to realize the majority (not all) of his issues are related to the teams inability to create any type of stability around him.

This is more of a NYJ issue than a Mark Sanchez sucks issue. While Mark Sanchez is not, or may never be, a top 5 QB he still could have been the guy here for a decade if the team was built correctly.

Mike T over spent on mediocre talent, traded away picks, spent high draft picks on the other side of the ball, and the coaching staff changed the philosophy to a more pass oriented attack (all while ripping away any assemblence of cohesion). The results? Mark Sanchez trying to do too much to often, instead of being who he is. A guy who has proven to make big throws in key situations, when he has both system and personel familiarity. You can see he is pressing based on his turnover numbers the past two years, a direct result of what I am saying.

SO what the Jets need is a Teflon QB, who can run, catch, and block; maybe we had that in Tebow? Obvious sarcasm, but it does strengthen my point that the Jets are a front office nightmare with no real plan on the offensive side of the ball. In Marty we trust!

I don't see why we should release Sanchez? If we are paying him and Garrard called it quits, we need a body at QB and he's been on the team for 4 years now.

It is a TEAM sports and the TEAM wins or loses. The QB is the leader of the offense, 1/3 of the team, hence why wins and losses are a team stat. You know if a Nick Folk misses in IND in 2010, Sanchez gets 2 playoff wins removed from his record? Without Mark throwing a single pass or even being on the field, the win and loss record changes. That's why I have a hard time taking wins and losses as a QB stat seriously. If you can be off the field and have your W/L record changed, it's not a really a player stat. That's why QB stats are nice, they at least take away the team's defense and ST but they still leave the variables of OL, WR, RB, TE, and OC/HC which make it not the end all be all for judging QBs.

Why isn't it both? The talent is not going to be here this year, but if Mark makes better decisions he will look a lot better than last year. It's both, you can't just blame it all one way or the other.

Was he pressing his rookie year too? His one year without large turnovers was when he lost 1 of 9 fumbles and threw 13 picks. Is the 2010 year the norm or outlier when it comes to him turning the ball over? 3 years says he's careless with the ball. For 2011 he also scored a lot canceling out the turnovers.

No the Jets need a QB who can learn and improve as the team tries to rebuild defensively and offensively. They need an accurate QB who can protect the ball. Can Sanchez be that guy again? We will find out this year.
