So the bigger question here is where do we go for a backup/potential mentor starter QB for Geno? Is Matt Moore still available? I think he'd be just as good of an option as Garrard was although I don't know how effective he is or would be with the WCO.
thats a damn shame because questions like the one below really should be what gets talked about in this thread. i dont know where we look and opened up this thread to see if there was any chatter about where they go from here. but the troll wont let that happen i see.
I think it's better than to discuss the Sanchez/Geno stuff as there are plenty of other threads for that. Seriously, we can't go into the season with McElroy/Simms as our 3rd QB. Despite what fans want Geno is and won't be ready for some time and we have no idea what we'll get with Sancho. Who is going to be our vet to help our QB's grow and possibly step in to lead the team in a the event that Sanchez isn't going to be our guy this year. An interesting option would be A.J. Feeley who I am pretty sure knows MM's system from his time in Philly. He's older but I think he would know the WCO. That being said I don't think he would compete with Mark for the job as I do think his best days are way behind him.
a jeff garcia type, not a star but a decent qb who can come in and play respectably until geno smith either takes over the reigns or we draft another qb. garcia was a great stop gap type guy. can someone telll us who they know of that is available and guys who might get cut?
My guess is that they're assessing if they'd be comfortable moving forward with Nacho, Geno, McElroy, Simms. And I dearly hope they listen carefully to what MM thinks of this mess. If MM is happy with he has to work with, then we all should be happy. No point in bringing someone new in now, unless they KNOW he won't be cut, aka virtually gets a guaranteed roster spot. And that's not how I think Idzik wants it.
I did actually. Didn't find much 'cept you saying that he wouldn't beat Sanchez and if he did he wouldn't last the season due to fragility. Pro or con, just about everyone who addressed the issue of Garrard starting hedged their position with that proviso. But yeah, you called it...along with everyone else. Nobody said he wouldn't even make it to camp.
Here's some pie-in-the-sky optimism. Sanchez mentors Geno, and in doing so, he finds his qb mojo. Reinvigorated, he fulfills the hope that we all had in the not to distant past. Could happen...
OR since it seems like everything that happens with the Jets is a head spinner, the next thing to happen in the great drama that is the NY Jets is that Sanchez starts, gets off to an absolute monster start... we're talking top 5 in the NFL through the first 3 weeks or so, then takes a season ending injury causing Geno Smith to come in and play... ok... good enough to maintain the starting job, not good enough to make the playoffs. Next offseason, Sanchez gets healthy and the Jets have a full blown QB competition, causing infighting on theganggreen.com that makes the current Sanchez thread seem like a happy social.
Would you feel comfortable with Charlie Batch as our QB? I wouldn't. He was terrible last year when he came in for Big Ben. If they felt comfortable with him they wouldn't have let him walk as always with Big Ben health is a concern. I really thikn Matt Moore would be a good fit. He reminds me of another Matt.... Matt Hassleback who bounced around a bit but found success in Seattle with Holmgren's WCO. Granted I think Holmgren knew what he had in Hassleback when he brought him in but he far exceeded any expectations in Seattle. I don't think Moore is a franchise type of savior but I'd feel comfortavble with him taking over the team if we stumble out of the gate at 1-4 or something like that. It's way too early to destroy Geno's confidence and at that point you know Sanchez is done.
I'd feel comfortable. Minus his first start against the Browns (in which he did pretty badly), he seemed to hold his own against the Ravens (I believe they won that game). He'd be a good mentor for Geno and he has more recent experience than Garrard. Losing games destroys your confidence if you're a loser like Mark Sanchez. Geno gets upset at himself and finds ways to make himself better when he loses games. Trust me. You won't have to worry about someone destroying his confidence.
Is Donovan McNabb irrevocably retiring with the Eagles this fall? Did he and Marty M get along in Philly? We just need somebody to push Geno and maybe start a half season if Geno's not ready to go. Think McNabb would take that on knowing what he is getting into?
he would be a stopgap so he doesnt have to be a superstar. just a guy who doesnt constantly turn the ball over and put the team in bad situations. a guy who just doesnt defeat himself. matt moore could fit that mold. charlie batch is really really old, he would have been a great guy to bring in about 5 or 6 years ago for that role. now i think he is just too far gone.
