He hosts a radio show, he probably answered a question honestly. And agreed about your point, Smith knows a shitty QB when he sees one. His opinion is very credible.
I happen to agree with Smith but not because he's an NFL player. McNabb didn't even know a game can end in a tie.
I'll give you all but Newton. Newton, right now, is a better NFL QB than Sanchez. On edit, I think Sanchez is actually better than Delhomme ever was.
I love the way Mark answered, shows he has matured off the field. Hope he is motivated and can show all the detractors his true ability.
I think Newton is better right now and has a much higher ceiling but he needs to start putting some wins up.
what do both of thoes "streaks" have in common? A lack of a running game, Lack of receving weapons, and a line that featured WFH and Matt Slauson, and Austin Howard. Mark has his own issues, like all other QB's, but he has not been set up to win either (Not to mention this will be his third system in 3 years). Nothing has really changed this year either as we have not gotten him the weapons he needs to be servicable again. BBB- Bring back the beard at least!
The problem I see with the Sanchez hatred is the complete lack of context and the ignoring of results. There isn't one person on this forum who wouldn't take Matt Ryan over Sanchez (myself included), yet Matt Ryan has only been to one championship game despite having enormously better talent around him (context). If you truly believe that Sanchez should have equal success throwing to Kerley, Schilens, and Cumberland as Ryan has throwing to White, Jones, and Gonzalez then you're completely off your rocker. Its not a coincidence that the Jets and Sanchez both declined when Braylon Edwards was told to take a hike while giving Santonio Holmes a fat contract. Two years later, Santonio Holmes has a paycut, the Jets are in rebuild mode, and Mike Tannenbaum is out of a job. I don't know how anyone can look at that and think that Sanchez was provided adequate tools to do his job. Ignoring that is outright hatred. The second aspect of the lack of context comes with player development. Not all players are "good" immediately and need time to develop. Some never do, and that could be the case with Sanchez, but its still too early to tell. The NFL is not a sprint, its a marathon. Great TEAMS are developed, they just don't appear out of thin air. They are developed by developing the players and the roster build up. The Jets building process since trading up for Sanchez has resulted in what is arguably the single worst receiving corps in the entire NFL. You don't need to have the best receiving corps in the NFL to win the Super Bowl - ala the Matt Ryan example... however you do need at least competent receivers with some ability. When the Jets had Holmes and Edwards and a healthy Keller and Tomlinson, the Jets had a receiving corps that was average but capable of being effective. With a receiving corps on that level, the Jets got to two AFC championship games with Sanchez behind the helm. You can downplay his contributions all you want, but it is fact that it was done twice and both times he was highly effective in the playoffs, when it mattered most. It is also a fact that the Jets receivers absolutely suck right now. There is a reason Sanchez has declined and its not solely about him as some would have it. This is important to me because this also affects Geno Smith. If we get him on the field asap just to rid the fans of their Sanchez insecurity, then the Jets are setting him up to fail the same way they setup Sanchez to fail. Even if you think Mark Sanchez is responsible for cancer and the drug trade, I'm assuming you're still a Jets fan and want to see Geno Smith succeed. How could anyone feel confident of that with the Jets roster as currently constituted?
I think Cam, and the Panthers in general, need to learn how to win close games. 13 of their 19 losses the last two seasons have been by a TD or less.
That's real random from Steve Smith. And Cam Newton is better QB right now than Mark Sanchez. Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat. That's why 6-10 last year isn't all on Mark's shoulders, right? It's based on multiple factors like lack of talent, bad coaching, injuries, Mark himself, etc etc. On top of that, no team plays an equal schedule and many other factors like that. Newton's a better QB now. But most QBs are because Sanchez's last season left nothing to inspire confidence in him. Any confidence you have of him succeeding come from successes 1.5 years ago or hope that new OC and player help. Nothing from last year to build off of except "do the opposite of last year Mark".
They don't want to HAVE to go back to him like last year is my point. "Mark Sanchez gives us the best chance to win" That quote was less a gleaming vote of confidence and more of a bitter admission. Out of what they had they didn't have another option besides their struggling QB. that needed to change. You make it seem like they were prepped and ready to give him the job. They aren't, otherwise they'd drop the pretense and give it to him, duh. He's skating on thin ice and is prepped to be ejected, he most likely won't be cut given the circumstances but the perception you're giving (from what i could tell) is that they are ready to go with mark and are only doing this to be fictitious. bullcrap, they aren't that committed, even at the beginning of the year they must have been looking up QBs from this draft to develop, they lucked out and got the best on paper in the end. This is his last licks with the team, one last chance to prove his worth as facilitated by a bad contract and an increasingly fleeting hope that prior success could be the norm. Not saying he can't do it, (if he's great than great for the Jets) just that the Jets aren't counting on it. Clearly they aren't why string so many along if they weren't?
jeez...how much bias can they put in one paragraph. Sanchez’s chances of making the Jets roster got a boost on Wednesday with David Garrard planning to retire. Sanchez will now be the main competition for second-round draft pick Geno Smith in the battle to be the Jets starter.
I believe this really all comes down to how much blame should accurately be placed on Marks shoulders. I think even those who want him gone can see he wasn't put in the best place to succeed, but they question how much of that is resting on external factors and how much is simply on him. Looking at things in a grey perspective, even given what he's going through can he be excused for fundamental mistakes at this point? And even if that is so, should we move on rather than try to fix externally broken goods? and how do we do it right this time? Sanchez hatred is certainly illogical at times but the constant defense of his struggles on such high levels makes one question: " if so much has to be made to make him potentially good why aren't we moving on regardless of how we got here?" I don't think just saying he is the suxorz is productive nor do i think blaming everybody and everything else (no matter how accurate that is to do so) is the right call either. Whats happening now for him is the right answer: we're ready to let him go unless he can improve in a new QB friendly system. The team can't go on forever hoping he develops and because we screwed the pooch on doing it earlier we're running short on patience for him to be a stable man behind center. We're here now, the past has passed, sanchez is one of the worst in the NFL statistically after having early playoff success. We have another QB with good potential, where do we go from here?
Why??? it's 500 words of bullshit with the same sorry "he won 4 road playoff games" argument peppered with the stupid "no weapons" argument.
I get what you're saying and I agree. They did Sanchez a disservice by not putting enough talent around him. Blame Tanny for constantly trading up and not acquiring enough depth. However how much stock must we put in a QB that can only perform average at best with "weapons". I guarantee if Matt Ryan was throwing to our receivers he wouldn't look as awful as Sanchez did last year. That's the point that a lot of pro Sanchez people miss. We get it the Jets didn't have the best players around him. But there are bigger issues at hand than simply "lack of weapons". His decision making has been poor. Even when we had "weapons" he wasn't anything special.
Oh and just because Sanchez was thrown in the fire and was bad it doesn't mean Geno is gonna be bad too.
