No. He was winning because the front office brought in a guy that was clearly not going to challenge him, yet again. I said it from the day they signed Garrard. And..for those stroking them selves with their Geno avyys...if you really think they thought he was a day 1 starter...do you really wait till 39...did they have a bug in the Buffalo warroom , somehow knew the Jills would go Manuel? Prob. Not. Bottom line, sanchez has been the starter all along, if they were serious about competition, they could have signed 10 different young healthy guys. I hate to say it, but...i think in terms of QB, the competition mantra was a smokescreen, to placate an irrational fanbase. Go back, read my posts pre draft...Garrard was never going to see the field.
Sanchez does have competition though. Geno is a guy the FO is high on. The job is Geno's to lose, Sanchez is the incumbent and Geno would have to fuck up really bad for Sanchez to beat him out.
:rofl2: Yes. Thats why they passed pn him, not once...but twice. Stop reading Mehta, costello, and Cimini
That's irrelevant to the point. If Sanchez starts its because Geno didn't impress them in training camp and preseason. If Geno doesn't look ready then I hope McElroy steps up and win the job. I can't deal with another season of Sanchez under center.
Of course "sanchez has been the starter all along". Tattoo removal ain't easy.. But seriously, do you think the Jets are that calculating? Or smart? Amazing that so many thought Garrard was a serious threat to Sanchez. That's how bad Sanchez looked last year. After the embarrassing games we had last year, people want change. A 35 year old qb that hasn't played in two years looked like a good option to some. Who knows...
Sanchez can be "good" again he just needs all pro wide receivers and tight ends, a number 1 rushing attack, the best collection of olinemen, a top special teams and a top 5 defense. If you give Sanchez all these things he'll tear up the league. Just watch.
They have that much faith in Sanchez do they? Really? Its all a facade to go with their guy, the obvious choice? A distraction to improve the man they know is their man? Is that why they drafted the best QB in the draft then? Not signing other players had nothing to do with limited money to do so? They just wanted to appease the masses because they, the people who know better, know Sanchez is a real keeper based on the past 4 years? Um... no. The New York Jets have lost faith in Sanchez. if they had faith in him they wouldn't give a shit about fan opinions, they wouldn't go looking for new QB's, they'd be looking for new weapons for him and spending cash there. Why the hell build a facade for something you're already set on being a reality? Why waste time letting people THINK its a competition even when its not? To make them feel better? They're keeping him because the cap hit says its unwise not to do so, and because yes his prior success warrants one last look to see if he just needed a certain change to have him work best. They are ready to dump this QB if need be, they got rid of space for it. Maybe he's not cut (more than likely he's not thanks to this recent hit) but even so they're ready to part with him by the end of the year. They have his replacement on board. he'll need grooming but he's prepped to take Marks job. I'm not saying he doesn't start week 1, I'm not saying they hate him, I'm saying they were never going into the year thinking "well he's our man lets just get others out there to make our fans who can't see his talent feel good about themselves as a facade for why we stick with him." They're thinking "salvage him or bust, either he somehow improves enough to be what we need in which case fantastic we have a steady backup(smith) waiting in the wings, or he can be stopgap for our new guy to assume the role, maybe be a trading commodity or something. otherwise cut him we'll take the hit we're ready for it." They may not have competently given up on him, but he was NEVER starter all along. He may well still not be.
Oh come on, even in what Sanchez fans call his best year he led the league in turnovers and was bottom 1/3 to bottom 1/5 th in every category save one. People can call them "fantasy stats", but in the end stats tell the whole story and the only fantasy is pretending they don't. Especially for QB's.
Yes. Remember, at the end of the day...Sports is an entertainment business. Last year means Jack Shit. Sparano, the non OC. OC, and injuries make that an outlier. Stepping back, it appears that the new GM didnt think he had a QB problem, but a perception problem. Garrard got hurt in his swimming pool last year. And this isnt me backtracking, i said it from the day they signed him.he was never going to start here. What does that tell you...? They bring him in, either Sanchez beats him outroght or he gets injured, and theyve put a whitewash on the perspective of the fan base. Which only matters for a couple of weeks. The GM seems to believe that MM is the missing piece of the offensive puzzle. ( I think that too) So at 9 and 13, they go defense yet again, but at 39.....Smith is a value pick, not a savior pick.
No. Try to keep up. 2011. Red zone 2nd in the NFl in the toughest part of the field. Total offense. 25th overall. One QB, one offense. Two coaches. Sanchez scored 32 times. Do you really think, the new GM didnt consoder that while passing on Smith, not once....but Twice?
Oh please. Many great QB's have been passed over and many bad QB's (like Sanchez) have been picked as soon as they got in the green room. Smith is better than Sanchez in every conceivable way coming out of college.
15 days and counting till no mo sancho answer me this oh mr hobbies, for some strange reason it happens that a majority of the june 1 cuts seem to happen around june 1. sure they can cut him now, but whats the point? they can also designate him a june 1 cut AFTER june 1.... funny how that works isnt it. maybe just maybe he will be a june 1 cut on july 7.
i remember a kid named rodgers coming out of cal sitting in that pretty green room far longer than anyone thought he would. i guess he has no chance to be good... at least not as good as akili smith.
Yup. Youre right. Thats why he fell to 39. And the teamthat drafted him, at a position of need, too, two defensive players first.
