I agree, but I think if we don't bring in Edwards, who is right now a solid reciever, were gonna end up like the mets this year. Just because your buiiding for the future doesn't mean we shouldn't try and compete in the meantime. Our WR corps is looking like the Mets outfield at this point. (hyperbole) I think Edwards was a great reciever during his tenure here, and I have to say, he looks like he's still got some left in the tank. He showed some athleticism in the last three games when he came back to us.
A lot of guys never return to form after a major injury. He could come back and be the same guy but I think you're underestimating the risk that he doesn't.
Matt Schaub had the injury last year and came back fine. Dwight Freeney too in 2007. I'm gonna be optimistic that he'll be fine.
I think Joe is a gonner ... can't see the Jets carrying 5 backs (figure Powell, Ivory, Goodson & Bohannon are making it). Sounds like if Rogers pans out they might look at him as a returner. And you have that Mike Edwards kid (CB - Hawaii) who was a solid returner in college.
These guys on the 53 man roster. #10 - Santonio Holmes #11 - Jeremy Kerely #84 - Stephen Hill #89 - Jordan White #15 - Zach Rogers (routing for) #19 - Clyde Gates was a Sparano guy he brought in last year and might stay on for a return guy, but very doubtful. Ryan Spadola is may early pick for the PS. Could be the sixth WR on the roster.
I am going to say the Jets opt to not bring in another vet (no worries gang, I am wrong often) - and opening day WR depth chart will look like: Holmes - White Kerley - Rodgers Hill - Spadola Practice Squad - Marcus Davis My thinking is that Spadola is a more polished receiver at this point. I think that the Jets carry 6 receivers for their 53 ... probably dressing 5 on game day. While not saying they are rebuilding, it sure looks that way. If that is the case, go young now, and let them grow with the team.
Just bring back Braylon and we would have a solid receiving corp. Holmes Kerley Edwards Hill Gates Rodgers
What do people see in Gates? Maybe i missed something but he never impressed last season and always seemed to be running the wrong routes or out of position. I'd much rather have Edwards or any of the UDFA guys come in and compete. We've already see what Clyde can do. ( not much )
I'm not saying he's the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice. But he was decent towards the end of last season. He could be a serviceable 4th/5th receiver. Plus he's young and has a year under his belt and IMO he's probably better than a few of those UDFA's.
