Eh. If it wasnt for T.O. dropping that TD pass in the preseason, things might have ended up differently in Seattle.
Possibly, I didn't hear one positive thing about Flynn to be honest. It was the Russell Wilson show from the get go according to Pete Carroll.
The point is he's the guy they're grooming to be the QB once he's ready mentally he'll play and he's further along then they thought he'd be
This isn't different then any other QB drafted early. Lets slow it down on Geno Smith and see how he plays against veterans in TC. Again, I do like what I see though.
I think he is right where they thought he would be. or at least I hope that is where he is. there should not have been any pleasant surprises this past weekend. geno should have done exactly what the scouts said he could do to make him a 2nd round pick. if they are inflating him after a rookie camp, I am afraid we are going to end up in the same deal as sanchez, turning him loose before he is really ready. of course this is on the premise that the report has credibility
Im sure you heard this a million times this is the New NFL, hes been a three year starter. I'm sorry i don't really agree with the idea that we should sit him ala eli manning in 2004 if he out plays the comp
Could this be a possible dilemna though? Him not being mentally ready, prepared etc. is likely however, if he represents the best chance for this team to win this year what do the Jets do? IMO the days of prepping qb's on the bench is of the past. Teams don't treat their qb's like the chargers and giants did to Rivers and Eli respectively. It's better they get their lumps in and see if failure is truly going to affect them in the future. That way you see how mentally tough these guys are.
yea, I worded that wrong. if he earns it start him.but with mark they tore the team down around him and hoped he would carry the team. i feel they leaned on him before he was ready, I don't want to see that again
Also, Geno is working with a much better, more proven OC and he has 2 years more experience in college. When Sanchez entered the NFL, he only had a single year at USC under his belt as a starter. Geno has started 3 full season in 3 different schemes. If he straight up wins the job, all the better. Like you said, he gives us the quickest shot at success. With even an average offense, we could be on the cusp of 9-7.
I agree. If Smith wins the job out of camp, we get to see his potential early on against the best teams in the NFL. I can just imagine how giddy we'd all be if he squeezed out three or more wins in that ATL, PIT, NE, CIN, NO stretch leading up to the bye. Cusp of 9-7, indeed.
Let's hold off on this one. A lot of people around here think that MM will be the savior for the offense but I believe a lot of people thought that Sporano would improve the offense compared to what Schotty did but were sorely mistaken. While I believe that MM will be a good deal better than Sporano (just because I don't understand what the hell Sporano was doing i.e bringing in Tebow the MOMENT Sanchez was getting into rhythm) I think the time with Schotty and Sanchez showed that if a player simply can't execute there's nothing a coach can do. When was the last time the fans felt the Jets had a remotely competent OC? Here's hoping though. Please don't throw the ball 50 times a game MM. Please... I do agree with the end though. I'm very excited about the defense especially with the addition of Richardson. As long as they don't have a QB who will turn the ball over 20+ times a year and a laughably bad ST they'll be in good shape.
This is a VERY tough stretch. I don't understand people talking about the Dolphins difficult stretch at the beginning (@CLE, @IND, vs ATL, @NO, vs BAL). CLE and IND are jokes and BAL will really suffer from losing half their defense and overpaying a mediocre QB. I'll take the Dolphins "tough stretch" over @ATL, vs PIT, vs NE, @CIN and vs NO any day of the week. That could very easily be an 0-5 stretch unfortunately (IMO 1-4 I think we steal one from NO)
Well MM is a much more proven OC than we've had in the last 7 years of so. He's proven he can put together top 10 offenses year in and year out. Im not sure he will this year, but even being average would be a big improvement. I do hope that we dont throw the ball a ton. With a new backfield, I hope Geno or whatever QB is in can lean on them if need be. Honestly, I'd look for the Jets to follow a similar path to the Seahawks- first half of the year Russel Wilson was just a role player on the offense. Making some plays here and there, essentially not fucking up. The latter half of the season he really came into his own and his role expanded... At least thats what I hope our model is like...
I think a big part that hurt Mark's development that now gets over looked, is that he was a one year starter at USC. I feel better knowing Geno commanded a major college offense for three years
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G2jWtLOrMY Not sure if it's been posted before, if so, my bad. Anyway, it discusses the top offensive coordinators heading into last year I believe. Not exactly the greatest of lists I'd say, but still a good list. I like how they mention one of his biggest strengths as being able to develop QBs and impart the system, and how knowledgeable he is about the system and communicating it. So we all know Geno Smith is like a sponge apparently with information (or atleast tries to study as much as possible), and he is now working with one of the best apparently at implementing the system, so it should be a good situation for us. He should be able to atleast master the system in terms of knowledge, which should be our biggest concern as of right now, because the physical tools are there.
