It was actually posted in the Mega-Super-Big Thread of All Things Geno, but it's a decent article and probably deserves it's own thread.
I basically immediately discredit anything I see by "anonymous source" or "Unnamed NFL executives". It's all bullshit meant to drag up hits visits clicks. There's so few pieces of actual sports journalism that come out these days it's sad. Most of the educated opinions I get are here and on TJB.com. Most other places are either trying to get a rise or just jumping on the "JETS suck, everyone pile on" wagon. Dick Chiminey in particular is one of the least professional sports writer I've ever encountered. When Tebow was released there were 9+ articles on the subject. All of which he tweeted out about 5-6 times. All of which were completely useless. I digress, I'm not a huge fan of Geno TBH - But because the Jets picked him ( and not in the first round ) I'm going to root for him to be great, ignore the critics and wait to see him on the field. Best case scenario in my mind - He stands on the sideline a year while our new members of the line gel and we get Hill another year of experience then either Sanchez is "The Man" and we have a strong backup for cheap for a few years, Or Geno takes over.

I think given the QB situation I'm going to be looking up mini camps more the ever. I want to see if Geno's learning and how his progress is going, if sanchez is adapting beneficially, or if DG seems stable. this next few should be fun disregarding BS media.
More that I think he was a good value pick in the second round, and I would have been more against the pick had we used a first rounder on him. Obviously I'd still be rooting for him as long as he wears the Green and White, But it'd have more of a sour taste then sweet. More because that would have put more pressure on the organization to start him right away then anything.
How much will you blow your load if he turns out great? And more importantly, how much like a dickwad will you feel if he turns out great?
I didn't like Smith as a pick because I was listening to the talking heads...So I was forced to research the kid and it looks like he has all the tools both on and off the field...I am now 100% behind Geno until he proves me wrong...
Beat writers aren't qualified to write football articles. They are qualified to try to get the attention of the reader. That's the sad fact. The best part of that sad fact is that readers, at least the football readers and not the casual dumbasses that open the paper on Sunday (cough*champ*cough), are turning their attention to internet analysts that provide a better insight. ESPN and NFL.com and the local rags will ride the wave of easy money until it proves not to be profitable. Then, they will figure out ways to terminate the contracts of hacks like Cimini, Mehta, and Can-O-Lardo, for the likes of people that understand the game. They may even begin that movement by creating a "Football Fanatic" version of their rag, just to transition things back to the profitable margin. Guys like the three I posted above will be forced to find work for overt tabloid rags, and it will be a fun thing to see. I will enjoy their desperation. Because I hate them for what they are.
These guys (with the exception of the Tubster) have all abandoned print media because print media will not be there down the line. So if ESPN casts them out, they will probably start blogs. Good luck with that.
