If it werent for his salary, I have a very hard time believing that he is still on the team.

For the same reason Tebow wasn't released until after the draft instead of as soon as the season ended. I don't believe it will be June 1st, but barring a significant injury and horrible play from Geno, Sanchez will not be with the Jets week 1.

Why cut him now? Let him compete in TC and may the best man win!

Lol trade Sanchez? Not happening, nor will anyone try and offset that cash after last season. Smith, Garrard, and Sanchez there are your 3 QBs next season. The only way Sanchez gets cut is if Garrard destroys him in TC.

I just reviewed Sanchez' interceptions from last season, and the results surprised even myself.

Turns out he's the second leading punter on the team.

One, Tebow is not an NFL QB. Two he makes much less than Sanchez, and the Jets were hoping to flip him fr a late round pick,.

    But..hes been released.

Even then he doesnt get cut.

    Garrard, is fragile.

Your order is backwards, but essentially you are correct.

The only way Sanchez is NOT the starter on opening day, is if he shits the bed in TC. If its even close, even if Garrard is slightly better, the team benefits more by saving Garrard, to mentor Smith, and in Case Sanchez gets hurt, short term.

Sanchex gets hurt long term, Smith plays.

We all think that. That is not the point the poster made.

Once he gets to where you are, by that statement..,Sanchez is here, unless he drools on himself while tying his cleats.

Garrad, and Smith are not viable options this year.

There is your answer right there. They were hoping to trade him. Even though they had no plans of him being on the team, they hung on to him for 4 months until all efforts to trade him had been exhausted. Unless Garrard gets injured again and Geno just flat out sucks, the same will happen to Sanchez.

I'm sick of punting on 1st and 2nd downs.

Mark's interception was like a good punt, so when Matt Ryan throws an interception and the Packers take over on their own 20, I'm sure you would say the same right?

    Guess not!

Why? Was Russel Wilson looked at as a viable option last year? How about Tannehill? or Dalton in 2010? What makes Sanchez a viable option and not Geno or Garrard? Nothing tells that. Especially not the tape.

Sanchez might be our worst option at this point. You lose the fans (95% of them), he most likely doesnt improve, no real segway into having Geno start, still have the media trashing the team...

I have to wonder when people will get this.

As much as Tebow is not an NFL calibre QB, Sanchez is not either.

If you are starting for a team, and log 35th-best record in 32-team league, that speaks volumes about your quality as a player. As bad as Vick has ever been with Atlanta, he was never 32+th best QB in the entire NFL. (He did in his rookie year, but he didn't even start that year, on 50 for 113 attempt. That is not exactly equivalent to starting a full year, ok?)

Sure, Jets did piss-poor job giving him the adequate weapons and protections - I can see an argument there. (I was making these arguments myself after all.) But that doesn't mean Sanchez is worth a shit. He will have this year to prove me wrong. I strongly doubt if he will.

I have been reluctant to bring up Tannehill because that always brings the requisite "dolphins suxxxxxx hurrr durrr durrr when did he take the phags to 2, count them 2, afccg" but for fucks sake, the Dolphins top receivers last year were Hartline(a clear #2 at best), Bess(traded because he was a JAG), and Fasano(good blocker but medicore WR) and he still outperformed a yr 4 Sanchez as a rookie. (fantasy stat alert! whoop whoop whoop)

But its true and anybody but a homer knows it. (In b4 "well Sparano suxxxx)

Which makes the full argument, no team would trade for Sanchez currently and give any value at all. But if he was cut he'd no doubt find a job at the league minimum as a 2nd or 3rd string QB.

Remember Teams were looking at Jamarcus Russell this off season and hadn't taken a snap in 3 seasons and weighed as much as an Orca Whale. So a team signing Sanchez if he was cut isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

It is true. I think Sanchez had some brighter moments, mostly because he was on a bigger stage. But Tannehill had a solid season, and definitely showed some positive things. Im sure many wont admit that though because of the things you've said.

Its funny, some people say they just want to talk football, yet when even the thought of Tannehill outplaying Sanchez is brought up, the whole football thing goes out the window...
