The Reason they think Cromartie sucked in 2010 and 2011 is pretty much the reason you stated, he wasn't Revis. But on the Subject, Mo is a beast, Coples will turn it up this year. Richardson I have high hopes for. And let us not forget the last key to the D-line in Ellis, if he can stay healthy and on the field he's been a very effect DT when he's been on the field. He doesn't have a lot of "stats" but 99% of NT's in a 3-4 defense don't rack up many stats, they take up multiple blockers. This D-line has a real chance to be very special if they all reach even 2/3rds of their potential. Edit-and if they were all to hit their top potential (unlikely, not a knock on them but the odds of any particular player hitting their full potential isn't that high and the odds of all 4 hitting it is pretty slim) they could be overall one of the best D-lines in NFL history, not the best, but one of. After all it would be really hard to have a better D-line than the Purple People eaters of the 1970's vikings, or the fearsome foursome of the 70's Rams, or a couple other legendary D-lines. But they could very well be the best D-line, from top to bottom, the Jets have ever had...and the Jets have had some pretty good D-lines over the years.
Of course you do. Want to provide more than overall passing defense to support your argument, though? I know you're doing double duty, but I'm sure you'll find the time.
How about we start with your criticism of Cromartie's performance in 10/11 and go from there. To me, those Ds were solid as fuck and the strength of them was the secondary. There was no passrush without a blitz, and our safeties were terrible athletes. I provided overall ypg allowed not pass yards.
As much as I like wilkerson hes definitely not the 14th best player in the nfl thats crazy talk. Sent from my HTCEVODesign4G using Tapatalk 2
Cromartie was #9 in "Success rate" in 2010 per Football Outsiders http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2011/best-cornerback-charting-stats-2010 Cromartie was #6 in Completion % allowed in 2011 per PFF https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/01/12/cornerbacks-a-glance-at-the-2011-numbers/ He got bashed like he was a liability in those seasons. Yeah, he took a couple dumb holding penalties, but that's what happens when the QB has 10 seconds to throw the fuckin ball on every snap.
Even though this Is a wilkerson thread My whole thing with cromartie Is technique. He relies on his athleticism way too much. Given the fact That since we haven't had a double digit sacker in forever our secondary Is amazing cromartie and Wilson included. Number 2 without revis most of the year and no threat off the este. No, Im not. Im asking for your take on Cro's 10/11 performance. You said the Cro bashing was fair, why? He was damn good.
I really think the oppurtunity will be there for Damon Harrison to step into a more solid role at the DT position. I really liked what I saw of this kid last year. Representing mighty William Penn University. I expect him to play the Pouha role quite well which is why I think the team was willing to let Pouha walk. I am however very surprised that Pouha is still unsigned. It is possible we bring him back on a 1 year deal. I'm still not thrilled with the Richardson pick but after watching the videos of this kid and what he did to SEC OLs he should be able to come in and contribute right away. Like you said if he can come in and pick things up I think the potential for the DL to be absolutely scary is there. I think that the case could be made that Richardson was the best DT in the draft ahead of Star (health concerns) and Floyd. The explosiveness this kid has off the line is really something to behold.
Wilkerson + Coples + Sheldon. Really not bad at all, has the potential to be great especially with Cromartie + Milliner protecting against the pass. Even if our offense sucks this year, if our defense ends up being a top5 Defense once again, I'll feel really good about the 2014 season because the 2014 draft will be all about skill positions and a few young linebackers.
^If the offense sucks I fear RR will get canned and that would mean the D gets canned as well. Really hope the O gives RR something to work with.
I don't the offense will suck like it did last year. If these OL we drafted can contribute and our skill position players stay healthy I think Sanchez will be servicable. I don't think he'll ever be anything othet than that but he won't be as horrid as he was last year. I don't think enough emphasis on the offensive woes can be blamed on Sporano... he might be the worst OC this team has ever had and that is saying a lot. I think MM is a huge improvment in that area.
While some of the bashing for Cromartie can get silly as he is often compared to Revis I think it's important to note that the guy seemed to play MUCH better without Revis in the lineup. As the #1 guy he stepped up and I always had wished he played like that when he was the #2 guy. But Revis is gone now so we have Revis 2.0 in Cro and 3.0 in Milliner!
cromartie is still an asshole and will come back to earth this year. he did play well last year and even made some tackles... so i cant get on him too much but he is still an asshole. just not a pussy and an asshole at the moment.
