Once the actual games start, all this questions about character and his emotional status will hopefully go away, and he can just perform. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ze-quarterbacks-from-the-2013-nfl-draft-class Apparently they like Geno the best as well, I believe Simms even says Geno was a top 15 player for a lot of people.
Geno was definitely a top 20 talent in this draft. Three years of play at a very high level will do that for you. If the WVU defense was a bit better they win 10 games or so and then he's an easy top 10 pick.
After thinking about this for awhile, I like picking up GSmith in the second round. what I didn't like was that Idzik didn't trade back. Given the relatively high value of a second round pick, most teams aren't going to pick a QB unless he fits a need somewhere on the roster. Judging by the other thread on who QBs fall, there just weren't many customers left for GSmith. It was possible he'd have even fallen into the third although I can understand not pushing our luck that far. Still, trying to pick up another pick (or even two) and moving down seems like it was a plausible scenario. Than again who knows what really happens behind the scenes. Aaron

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...nalley-nolan-nawrocki-050213?from=en-us_msnhp Attached is a link of an article in response to some of the media BS on Geno. Apologize if I did not do this right
The best thing that could happen right now is for Geno and the Jets to just clam up on the issue and on the draft and all that stuff. What's past is past and the only way this thing has legs before the season is if it turns into an argument. You cannot win an argument that is asking the questions that are at issue here. Just engaging in the argument is half the proof that the allegations might have some basis. Retreat. Live to fight another day. Hit the enemy in the mouth with a few well-placed TD passes in September.
i believe someone (possibly jim brown??) felt the need to make a statement to the effect that they felt smith dropping to #39 was NOT because he is black..... ridiculous that a statement had to even be made to that effect. why even think that way in the 1st place??
You're talking about half the country. Ever turn on one of the cable news networks? You can't even criticize the President without being told "you just hate him because he's black". Race trumps everything in 2013 America.
As a modern sport, football doesn't have a deep legacy of racial divides. Was there a bias against black quarterbacks at some point? Probably. And, in the past, was there a bias against black football coaches? Maybe. But all indications are that the NFL and its fans are highly post-racial in their analyses. The color of one's skin doesn't show through a uniform, and the majority of us will celebrate the performance as long as it's good. So, will race affect Geno Smith's tenure? For some pundits, almost certainly. It isn't a reach to imagine Bayless or Stephen A. making some sort of racial critique (if they haven't already). If Geno Smith gains notoriety or success, there's even a chance that news pundits like Rush will jump in. But, for the majority of Jets fans, including everyone on this board, race isn't going to be a factor in evaluating Smith.
another black kid got picked ahead of him so.... and man this immature arrogant perception has really taken hold hasn't it? i'm still not convinced its true, the sources are un reliable, its Geno's word against that of his agents, I'm convinced its just hearsay. smith should be studious and committed without cartoonishly bowing out. the questions for him are not work ethic but how he refines his skills on an NFL level.
i mostly agree with ur take and IMO this kind of biased thought is being festered inside and outside of washington..... nuff said.
Will race be an issue? Only to racist fans, like the ones that call Sanchez "nacho" or whatever similar anti-hispanic slur they can muster up.
