No wins and losses are a team stat. Ah the Tebow comeback where the offense scored 7 points for the other team? Or the Pitt game where the offense scored 7 points for the other team and then 0 points on the GL? Yeah let's single out the defense in those games, instead of understanding the offense underperformed twice in those games. Funny how the line before, you complain about people assigning wins to the team and losses to Sanchez and then you assign losses to the defense. Some of it goes beyond the player. A lot of it sticks on him. Mentally, has to get back into the game. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. When to spike a ball/take a sack/throw it up for grabs. That's on him not his teammates or coaches or OC. Again, Schotty and Sparano were bad, that doesn't mean by default Sanchez is great. They can all stink. No but some of you guys believe he is a top 15 QB in the league but everything is holding him back and nothing falls on him except those 4 playoff games. Talent isn't everything. Gotta be there mentally. Last season has clouded some poster's memories of 2009-2011. Taking a shot at Geno before he played a snap of NFL football. Ok, that makes no sense. No, you don't understand that even if Sanchez becomes better from last year (not hard to do) it still might not be worth it. We need him to be great, not just better. The chances of that are slim, that's why we drafted Geno.
The thing about the Geno Pick is he went in the second round where Sanchez should have been drafted. Nobody would be that upset with Sanchez if he had not been drafted so high. I franchise QB makes the others around him better. He is not that and that is that.
That game was NOTHING compared to the one Richard Todd had against Miami in the mud bowl back in 1983. He thru two interceptions directly into the hands of LB AJ. Duey, and that was all she wrote. People need to get over it and move on. Sanchez will be in camp training to compete for a starting job. That's what Idzik and Rex have in mind. Like we're really going into the season with 1 washed up QB, a rookie that hasn't made an NFL snap and another that exhibited only as much as him showing he can be in the horizontal position against San Diego? You Sanchez haters are showing your true ignorance - the best reputation for being the most uneducated about their team in the NFL.
Exactly, I think if a good QB had our receivers they wouldn't be viewed that bad, we have no Tight end, but atleast some of these guys have promise..... Hill (a deep threat, but raw and needs to improve hands)...... Kerley (Great slot guy who needs to work on route running, consistent hands)...... and Holmes (Good hands and a good route runner, needs to adjust attitude) A good QB makes others around him better by building their confidence and putting them in positions to succeed, Sanchez is just terrible, I gave up on him after the Butt Fumble, he actually ran right into his ass, that game was where he just showed how terrible he is
Murrell, What is your take on Geno? I'm not a fan and would like to hear what you think of him. I read your post about Flacco when he was drafted and you nailed it.
A lot of people misremember 09-2011 and let today's games cloud those judgements. Sanchez didn't play well in 2009. Even for a rookie, compared him to recent day 1 starting rookies, he's one of the worst. He benefited from rarely throwing the ball and having a great run game, ST, and defense. We caught some breaks and the Jets amde the playoffs. Then in the playoffs, he did a good job not throwing away the CIN or SD game like he did earlier in his rookie season. When we needed offense, we saw the problem in the champ game, especially once a couple players go dinged up. Sanchez played much better in 2010. He played within the team, but the offense was inconsistent. We lost games where the defense gave up 10,9, and 10 points. He had those comebacks, but some of those comebacks were from offensive failures earlier in the game. He played much better than 09 and played excellent in the NE playoff game. The IND game showed his inconsistency (many overthrows in the 1st half), and the PIT game showed those too. Again when we needed a shootout, couldn't do it. Oh well. 2011, Sanchez played different, and I think better for some of it. He was scoring a lot but turning the ball over a lot. Suddenly he hit a wall and started making simple, rookie mistakes. He started to let turnovers pileup like his rookie year and wasn't able to stop tailspins. He turned the ball over way too much. In 2012, yes Sanchez lost a lot of pieces. But mentally he seemed shook still and turned into his rookie self. He started throwing passes when he should take a sack, he started fumbling a LOT and forgot about ball security, he started missing easy forces and just lost any poise he seemed to have in 2010.
There's a thing in this league called a 5 year plan - and we should all stick to it. Especially when you have a ripe young QB as Sanchez who admittedly was not ready to depart USC, as even Pete Carroll had opined about. He was a Junior that left too quickly and it has hurt him, as anyone can see. Yes, Sanchez has been a bit of a disapointment - but I recall very keenly that Giant fans wanted to use the 'bust' word on Eli after 4 years. If you compare his stats with Mark, it is not much better. Now I'm not saying Mark is going to make a comeback and lead the Jets to the SB the 5th year that Eli had done - (although the Giants D was very important part to that accomplishment), but Mark deserves AT THE LEAST , another shot with healthy teammates, a good coach and supportive cast taken to help him through. But, I don't expect that chance from these dopey fans, LOL. They are so knowledgeable...
The Patriots were up 35-3 at Halftime, they stop trying at that point, and the real thing to look at is QBR, and that was 22.9 compared to Brady's 82.4..... They scored 21 points in under a minute...... They were toying with them the entire 2nd half
If Sanchez had gone to the Raiders instead of the Jets it would be a bedrock truism around here that only bad franchises make that kind of pick twice in a row.
5 year plan is out the window once the GM leaves and your QB had his worst season in year 4. The 5 year plan has your QB improving each year. Eli's 4th full year of 4th year starting? Because both are light years ahead of Sanchez's 4th year. Sanchez was on the Eli path in year 3. He lost all of it in year 4. He regressed to his rookie year. Yeah Sanchez should be able to compete for the job, but he has to improve leaps and bounds to stay on the team after this year. Again, he looked like his rookie year last year, he has a long way to go to get to an average QB and he needs to be better than that to stay on this team EDIT: I thought Sanchez would bounce back and I still hope he does, but in year 4 each game he did lowered by belief he would bounce back and the TEN was absolutely brutal. I still hope he becomes the best QB in the league next year, but my belief to him becoming an above average QB next year is at an all time low.
and adding the worst starting QB in football last year in mark sanchez to that trio is an improvement? add more crap to a pile of crap only makes it smell worse.
QBR is total and utter non sense. My point is Sanchez was not to blame for that Pats game expect the butt fumble. It was total team collapse.
Giant fans may have wanted to use the bust word on him but the GM wasn't replaced and didn't draft his replacement on the first day of his first draft. The dopey fans don't make any decisions on who plays, who is signed or any other dopey decisions by management. We just live with it and read dopey posts comparing Mark Sanchez to Eli Manning.
What concerns me about Sanchez was his collapse down the stretch once again. He played indefensibly bad against the Cardinals and the Titans. He was coming on before the infamous "butt Fumble" He played well the second half of Houston played well in Indy and played well in the first NE game. Ran into a tough Miami and Seattle team and then played great against St Louis setting up a much anticipated game with NE. Statistically he played well but the Butt fumble aftermath crushed him. He did not play well after that game and was mentally crushed. Before that game he played like the talent he had around him.
I don't like Sanchez think he's either an awful decision maker at worse mediocre game manager at best and I feel we can do beetr than settling for him, but I will never blame that game on his head. that play is not indicative of Sanchez. there are other failures and a couple of decent moments over the past 4 years that do in a much more accurate way. that fumble was matched by the two it was sandwiched between that nobody remembers. Mark lost us the game vs TEN, nobody else though. Thanksgiving? a debacle on friggin everybody.
