    WTF is this?

"Yet, it is not Milliner -- or even Richardson, who was selected with the pick New York received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for Revis -- who represents the signature of Idzik's first draft as a general manager.

That designation goes to Smith, whose time is coming. It's just a matter of when."

Actually, it was 100% Richardson. Do these people even fact check?

I love when people assume things and pass them off as fact. For example:

"In taking Smith, Idzik conveyed it with clarity -- and no forewarning -- to four-year starter Mark Sanchez: The gig, almost certainly, is up. And that's whether Sanchez, guaranteed $8.25 million this year, holds a clipboard for the Jets in 2013 or not."

"Little by little, we see more of the dynamic between Idzik and Ryan, who is coaching for his job this season."

These two quotes may be likely, but there is no indication one way or the other that either are true. THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH REPORTING.

There is enough news to report out there that you shouldn't need to make it up. The news industry has become lazy.

You misunderstand. She's saying that even though Richardson was the pick that resulted from the trade, it is actually Smith who "represents the signature of Idzik's first draft..."

which is another reason its fucked up

how is a 2nd round pick the signature pick of the draft.
we had 2 picks in the top 15 and everyone is focused on the 39th. it makes 0 sense.

In 2006, the Jets had 2 first round picks (after trading one of their former first rounders for their latter first rounder) and drafted Kellen Clemens with a second round pick.

The Jets were reported to be looking for a replacement for their embattled starting quarterback.

Can you tell me who the signature picks of that draft were?

    1. He got fleeced on the Revis trade.

    2. He reached on Richardson

    3. Smith was an excellent value and of course drafting the top QB in the class will define your draft and virtually pimp slap your incumbent overpaid starter. Jones' point is absolutely right.

Do you think anyone believes that you are a Jets fan?

I only had to search your last twenty posts to realize that you are one of those spineless frauds that pretends to be a rival fan to get a rise out of people.

Good job. Having no spine. Hope that works out for you.

which player are people talking about more?

even just using this board as a small sample, the Gino Smith thread is getting more play than the threads for Milliner or Richardson. are we the exception and the rest of the media talking about those two and not Gino Smith? or talking about all three equally.

if you have an issue with her analysis of which player is getting more attention, and would qualify more as the signature of the draft at the moment than any other, than you have to show how she is wrong. but the round of the draft isn't a very compelling argument.

"At the moment" is meaningless, just as draft grades the day after a draft.

Yes, if the two early DPs in the first completely bust, the we will be talking about Geno Smith and his likely pedestrian performance in the NFL.

What if Richardson and Milliner turn into perennial Pro Bowlers and Geno doesn't do a while hell of a lot?

What is the signature of this Jets draft?

What if they all are All Pros? Then Geno is the sig. What if the first two picks are average and Geno is All Pro? Same. What if they all suck? Same.

    There are your scenarios.

If you're suggesting that Brick and Mangold were the signature picks, naturally I agree. I was just clarifying the writer's point.

Now if I were tasked with defending that point, I would start with the fact that Smith was the first QB taken in his draft -- unlike Clemens -- and had been projected by some to go much higher.

Smith is eventually going to be subjected to a glaring media spotlight. Clemens never was.
