This thread is for anyone to discuss/list how they would have drafted differently. Hopefully we can come back to this in a couple years and see how the armchair pros compare to FO pros.

For the most part I am ok with Jets draft. I have questions about Richardson for the same reasons everyone else does but I think Rex could make him work in a 4 man front. Couples, Wilk, Ellis and Richardson would be really nasty to contend with.

Here is what I differ. 1. I would have taken Barkley in the 2nd round and then I would have taken Nassib in the 3 (possibly trading down in the process if at all possible). I am not a Geno fan, I just don't think he is the answer. At the end of the day, you need a good QB to succeed. If you can take two 1st round caliber QBs in round 2/3,that is incredible value and a no brainier for me. Watching Barkley's tape is impressive. He is really accurate and well suited for a WCO. Same with Nassib who is currently being coached by Paul Hackett so he comes into the league with existing WCO experience. That would give us a really awesome stable of competition and very likely a top QB(s) for many years to come. Further, a couple years down the road it would be likely that we could use the non-starter as serious trade bait should we decide to move him.

Please do explain...Barkley and Nassib if so great would have gone higher then a 4th round.

So Geno is not a good QB, but these 2 above are? I'd like to know why

The draft is not a science, it is a crap shoot. Your draft spot does not determine your success in the next level, just ask Nacho and Gholston. We are running WCO and Barkley and Nassib I believe are better suited. I have watched Geno's tape and I don't come away impressed but you can have your own opinion, that is the purpose of the thread.

Nassib and Barkley both threw more picks in one game than Geno did all year. There's a reason Nassib didnt get selected by his college coach and why he will be Eli's jock strap holder for his career. As for Barkley he couldn't even win at USC... We have 17 qb's on the roster so instead of drafting what could've been the heisman and #1 pick if it wasn't for a horrible defense at great value in round 2, we should've added 2 terrible qb's?

Give it a rest, they are all first round talents. Smith fell for the same reasons. He has small hands and fumbles a lot, he did not play well in the cold and he did not play big in big games. He also has a penchant for saying dumb things which will won't fare will for him in with the nyc media. Further the other two run pro style offenses and Geno did not. He also had better weapons. Time will tell, I hope he works out but he would not have been my pick.

Milliner at 9 would have been my pick, then either Lotulelei, Eifert or Vacarro at 13. I would have taken Robert Woods in the second. Winters is fine in the third. we traded our 4th. in rounds 5-7 I go BPA.

I'm okay with all of our picks though, except William Campbell.

No and no Geno played excellent in big games. Lsu, Texas, Clemson, Oklahoma, ect. Just went unnoticed because the opponent scored 60. He didn't play well against Syracuse and Texas Tech. USC had better weapons than WVU and a better defense, you can only make that argument with Nassib but again his own coach passed on him 4 times.

Geno blows. He can't even handle the NFL draft green room he'll NEVER be able to handle the pressure in NY. Mentally he' a box of rocks, if jet fans think Sanchez wilts under pressure geno will make Mark look like Joe Montana. :/... I would have also taken Star over Richardson.

1A - Xavier Rhodes - liked him better than Milliner b/c he's a bigger press man corner and better athlete IMO. Rex loves to play zero coverage behind his blitzes and I think Rhodes has the potential to "play on an island" better than Milliner. I thought Milliner was overrated and benefited from a great front 7 at 'Bama like Kareem Jackson a few years ago. Rhodes was compared to Brandon Browner by NFL.com, who I absolutely love.

1B - Alec Ogletree - Was hoping Jets could trade down and pick up another 2nd or 3rd and wanted to take this Ogletree badly. Jets sorely need speed and coverage ability at LB, especially with Gronk and Hernandez in the division, and Ogletree was the best in the draft from that perspective. Also adds the ability to bounce outside and rush the passer or blitz if needed. A Swiss army knife for Rex on defense.

2 - Tank Carradine - Jets absolutely need a pass rusher, and once Mingo and Jordan went early, I had my sights set on Carradine in Round 2. I loved his pass rush ability and his size for Rex's scheme. A 6'4 275 pound DE/OLB to wreak havoc off the edge, his game reminds me some of Terrell Suggs who I love. There are always questions about 4-3 DE's in college being able to drop in coverage as an OLB, but I think the Jets will play more 4 man fronts going forward and also want this guy rushing the passer much more than dropping in coverage.

3 - Was hoping Tyrann Mathieu would fall to the Jets but it didn't work out. Say what you want about him, the kid is a feisty playmaker who makes things happen on the football field and would be a great nickelback and kick returner on special teams. The other guy I would have loved to take here was TJ McDonald, who went one pick before the Jets to the Rams. Similar to Taylor Mays when Mays decided to go back to school for another season, McDonald's stock fell from potential 1st round pick to mid round pick as people poked more holes in his game. While I agree that he'll never be a rangy ball hawking safety like Earl Thomas or Jairus Byrd, I think he would have been a perfect replacement for Landry as a physical enforcer in the secondary. I also think playing in Monte Kiffin's scheme limited his ability to make plays, as he was often asked to play basic Tampa-2 coverage, rather than being brought up in the box to blitz and make plays like Landry did for the Jets. If pressed to make a selection with whow as actually on the board at the time, I'd probably have taken Keenan Allen (too good a value) or Matt Barkley (who I think can be a Chad Pennington type of QB).

4 - Liked the trade for Ivory. Hoped to trade a 5th, but a 4th is not bad. Love Ivory's battering ram style, and he's got much better vision than Shonn Greene had. Fans will love him.

5 - Andre Ellington - Been one of my favorite players for years in college. Explosive home run hitting RB who I think would greatly excel in a WCO. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, make people miss, and moves exceptionally well laterally. Game-breaking ability the Jets have lacked at RB since trading Leon Washington.

6 - Nick Moody - Thought this guy was a rising star at safety two years ago, but his stock plummeted over the past year as FSU moved him to LB in 2012. Physical enforcer at safety in the LaRon Landry and Kam Chancellor type of mold. Clearly more of a box safety than a center fielder, can absolutely lay the wood like Landry, and I believe can hold his own in coverage vs tight ends. Kam Chancellor was criticized in similar fashion, and he's turned out to be a great pick for Seattle. This guy plays a very similar game.

7 - Marquess Wilson - Again, loved him during the 2011 college season and thought he had a bright future. Tumbled down the board after walking out on Washington St after issues with Mike Leach. With his talent, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because Leach is a known jack-ass. Similar to Mike Williams a few years ago with Tampa, this guy has pretty massive talent and with his head screwed on right could be a very good NFL player. Roll the dice at this point in the draft, nothing to lose.

UDFA - Da'Rick Rogers - I would have taken him as early as round 3 to be honest. Massive talent and excellent production at Tennessee before being dismissed from the team. Marijuana doesn't scare me off, and I kind of like that he's got an attitude. The Jets need some guys with hair on their balls who play with a chip on their shoulder. One of my favorite WR's in the class, think he has big time NFL potential.

Dennis Johnson - Bowling ball RB in the mold of Michael Turner. Breaks an insane amount of tackles, is very hard to bring down, can make people miss or run them over, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and can contribute on special teams. Probably my favorite RB in the draft.

Kenny Tate - LB/S tweener who was considered a first round prospect a few years ago. Always liked his game and felt he could be a swiss army knife on defense - cover TE's, stop the run as an 8th defender in the box, blitz, play traditional safety. He does have some stiffness to him, so if he doesn't work out at safety, you've got a very nice coverage linebacker on third downs who can also blitz.

Rodney Smith - WR with physical skills to play in the NFL. Worth a flier, as he underachieved at FSU and could have a better pro career than college career.

Roy Roundtree - Just always liked his game, had a knack for making big plays. A solid depth receiver who can fill in and spot start at the least.

TJ Moe - Tough, scrappy, blue collar slot WR who can hopefully turn into the next Welker, Stokely,Amendola, or Chrebet.

Didn't address the OL with this but rounded up some weapons at WR, sured up the secondary with a corner and safety, revamped the LB corps with an inside guy and an edge rusher, and added some playmaking to the RB position. I like Colon as one of the starting guards and would look into signing Jeff Otah to compete with Howard at RT. Bring in another guard via free agency to compete with Ducasse. I feel like guards are pretty easy plug and play guys - you can find them late or in free agency and cover them up pretty well.

The First thing I would have done differently is for the owner not to essentially announce hours before the draft who the #1 player is on their board (Tavon Austin).

The Sheldon Richardson pick made no sense. I don't care how great your DL and scheme are; you still need playmakers at the second level.

I don't believe you can go into training camp talking playoffs when Greg McIntyre and Ricky Sapp are penciled in as starters.

If you announce your picks ahead of the draft its usually tactical because you actually have little interest in drafting that particular player - how often does a team announce its picks ahead of the draft and they actually end up with that player?

I dont think anyone on the Jets is seriously thinking playoffs - hence the investment in sorting the lines this year.

This thread is skewed as people now know when players that were due to be taken sooner had fallen to so its drafting with the benefit of hindsight. you cant say "Oh I wouldve taken this guy in the 4th round" if everyone had expected him to go in rounds 2-3.

I would have tried to trade down from #39 - and grab OLB prospect with 2nd and pick up another lineman or OLB with that extra pick. If trade down was not an option, I'd still have gone with OLB. Other than that, it was pretty good all around.

(I would have waited till next year for QB position anyway. I of course have no confidence that Sanchez will be worth a shit, but that still can happen. If Sanchez is a tub of shit that he is, then fine - Jets have better batch of QBs coming out anyway.)

the only pick a fully disagree with, is the Campbell pick in the 6th round.

i probably would have picked a safety (Motta, Rambo or whoever was the highest on our board), Chase Thomas (who went undrafted anyway) or even more depth in Jordan Poyer or Reid Fragel.

as of now, i see our 6th round pick as wasted. but i hope time will prove me wrong ;)

Without making any trades here is what I would have done:

I think this would have been a nice haul that would have left us in position to take our QB of the future in round one next year.

1a (pick 9). Chance Warmack OG Alabama 6'2" 317
1b (pick 13) Star Lotuleilei DT Utah 6'2 311
2 (pick 39) Tank Carradine OLB Florida State 6'4" 276
3 (pick 72) Terron Armstead RT Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6'5" 306
4 (pick 106) Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech 6'0" 204
5. (pick 141) Brandon Jenkins OLB Florida State 6'2" 251
6. (pick 178) Andre Ellington RB Clemson 5'9" 199
7 (pick 215) Da'Rick Rogers WR Tennesee Tech 6'2" 217

===================================================

Using the draft value chart below our picks are worth a total of 1,350+1,150+510+230+82+35.5+20.2+5.4 = 3,383.1 points

Assuming we had the opportunity to make trades at fair value, here is how I would have used those points (comp picks can not be traded):

http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

1 (pick 10 - 1,300 points) Chance Warmack OG 6'2" 317 Alabama
2 (pick 39 - 510 points ) Tank Carradine OLB Florida State 6'4" 276
2 (pick 51 - 390 points) David Amerson CB N.C. State 6'1" 205
3 (pick 63 - 276 points) Travis Kelce TE Cincinnati 6'5" 255
3 (Pick 65 - 265 points) Larry Warford OG Kentucky 6'3" 332
3 (pick 75 - 215) Terron Armstead RT Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6'5" 306
3 (Pick 80 - 190 points) J.J. Wilcox FS Georgia Southern 6'0" 213
4 (pick 103 - 88 points) Okafor, Alex OLB Texas 6'4" 264
4 (pick 128 - 44 points) Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech 6'0" 204
5 (Pick 137 - 37.5 points)Williams, Jesse DT Alabama 6'3" 323
5 (pick 151 - 31 points) Joseph Randle RB Oklahoma St. 6'0" 204
5 (pick 162 - 26.6 points) Brandon Jenkins OLB Florida State 6'2" 251
6. (pick 187 - 16.6 points) Andre Ellington RB Clemson 5'9" 199
7 (Pick 213 - 6.2 points) Michael Mauti ILB Penn St. 6'2" 243
7 (Pick 223 - 2.3 points) Zeke Motta Notre Dame SS 6'2" 213
7 (pick 224 - 2 points) Da'Rick Rogers WR Tennesee Tech 6'2" 217

I went about 17 points over so I am giving up a 5th or 6th rounder next year to make it work.

Pencil me in for warmack at 9 and jones at 13.

not sure what i would have done at 39 honestly. i probably would have NOT taken a QB.

i think smith is a much larger risk than just taking a flyer with #39.

these second round picks are precious and IMO he ultimately wont be what is expected.

really would love to eat crow on this so will see in 2-3 years when this thrread is bumped.
