What does it matter if he can't catch? The point is that he makes sure the guy he's covering doesn't catch. If he drops the ball, it's a successful play.

Please don't diminish my opinion just because "I'm a Bills fan" and I'm "supposed to hate" the Jets. I've said many times on here when I like moves the Jets make. I love the Winters pick, I think he'll start right away and be there for a while. I remember feeling the same about when they picked Ganaway last year. I said I liked the Hill pick, but that I just didn't think he'd contribute right away.

It's not that I dont like the Jets draft or their players, its more that I dont see any plan of theirs, any vision, any goals. As a fan, you're never going to "like" every pick a team makes. Its all subjective. Even as a Bills fan, there's always "someone else" you wanted them to pick, but its not about that.

For example, I dont necessarily like every single player or pick the Bills made, but I respect that they have a plan, and they had goals of what they wanted to come away with during the draft and they did those things. They said they wanted to:

    (1) find someone they thought was a franchise QB
    (2) increase the speed of the team on both offense and defense
    (3) get a #2 WR across from Stevie Johnson
    (4) get an ILB and depth at safety.

Whether I like the particular players they chose or think they will succeed is subjective, but they met every one of those goals. They took E.J. Manuel, who knows if he will be a franchise guy, but they went out and did it. They took WR Robert Woods and Da'Rick Rogers as #2 receivers. They drafted their inside guy with Kiko Alonso and 2 safeties, and all of these guys run 4.5 or less. They drafted some kid out of Texas at WR who ran a 4.2 at the combine.

Do I like all of those picks? No. I worry about a lot of them. But I respect that they had a plan, had goals, and went out to satisfy every one of them.

When I look at the Jets, I have no idea what their plan was, or if they even had one to begin with. Their biggest needs were OLB, S, TE and they didnt pick a single player at those positions. The rebuttle argument is, "ok, well maybe their plan was to go BPA, and that's why the needs weren't satisfied." That is why I responded with saying you cannot tell me that some of those picks were the best players available at that time. Even if the Jets had them graded that way, were they head and shoulders above the rest of the players available that they just couldn't deviate to pick a player at a position of need? It doesn't make sense to think that theres only one good player when you pick. Chances are, on your board, there are going to be at least 3-5 guys you think are worthy of the pick. From there, if any of those 3-5 guys play a position of need, you pick him and satisfy both BPA and need. Those players past round 3 were not so far and away better than the field that you had to only pick them and not someone else at S, OLB, TE.

It's not that I'm "a Bills fan" and I'm here "just to rag on the Jets." I truly have no idea what the Jets plan is or what the hell they are doing.

No it was diminished because you went on and on about how no one could convince you that those day three picks would have been best on thier board. It's silly how much you pretend to know at times.

If your main criticism for the Jets draft is that their 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks are "no names," than that's pretty good in my book.

    1. #9 Dee Milliner CB
    1. #13 Eric Reid S
    2. #39 Tank Carradine DE
    3. #72 John Jenkins NT
    4 #106 Ryan Swope WR
    5 #141 Oday Aboushi T/OG
    6 #178 Bacarri Rambo S
    7 #215 Zac Dysert QB

More well rounded and would strengthen our secondary and build on our DL.

they are clearly planning some kind of change in philosophy. Remember the Giants won two SBs with pass rush from their front four.

That is not my main criticism at all, see above.

It isnt that I like the Jets picks in rounds 1-3. I don't like any of the picks (rounds 1-3 included) except for Winters. The point of emphasizing the other rounds was that I can at least accept the Jets believing the players selected in the first 3 rounds were the "best player on their board." That is believable to me. What I was saying is that rounds 4-7 that argument is not.

I'll play this game, I won't trade up or down but I will say if I would have tried to trade up or down, but there won't be any actual up or down.

1a, Chance Warmack. Why? the theme from this draft seemed to be to build the core of the team, the D-Line and O-line and other things to protect a young QB. Warmack is by far the biggest stud available on the O-line at #9.

2a. I trust Rex here, everyone has question marks and we need someone who can get to the QB, But I do try to trade down there, but not too far.

2nd round I'm wishy washy here. Geno probably doesn't get past the Raiders 3 picks later, But I'd try to trade down anyways and take the chance, but since we can't trade down I leave Geno as the pick. But if I could trade down (and was successful at it I'd draft Warford).

3rd round. Since I couldn't trade down in 2 I leave this pick alone, it's a good solid pick in Winters. But if I had been able to trade down it would have been Corey Lemonier OLB.

4th round. I don't trade that pick, again I'd try to trade down, but since we can't I'd pick Stephan Taylor RB. He's a perfect fit for the offense.

5th round since we can't trade back I'd still stay with Aboushi as the pick here. He could fill the RT position or compete with Winters for the other Guard position. But if we could trade back I'd try to and if Aboushi was still on the board I'd still take him.

6th round Again I'd try to trade back here, for a later pick in this draft and a 5th or 6th in next years, but I can't trade back so I go with Baccari Rambo S.

7th round Again I'd try to tade back, but since I can't I'd take Da'Rick Rogers WR. This to me is a no brainer.

UDFA I would have made the following players high priority, aka been on the phone with them in the 7th round and saying "hey, if you aren't drafted we'd love to sign you." and would have pursued them hard.

    Marcus Davis, WR.
    Alvin Bailey OG.
    Zack Line RB.
    Mark Harrison WR.
    Chase Thomas LB.
    Xavier Nixon OT
    Demetrious Harris TE
    Joseph Fauria TE.

I think this would have been a nice haul that would have left us in position to take our QB of the future in round one next year.

    1a (pick 9). Chance Warmack OG Alabama 6'2" 317
    1b (pick 13) Star Lotuleilei DT Utah 6'2 311
2 (pick 39) Tank Carradine OLB Florida State 6'4" 276
    3 (pick 72) Terron Armstead RT Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6'5" 306
4 (pick 106) Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech 6'0" 204
    5. (pick 141) Brandon Jenkins OLB Florida State 6'2" 251
    6. (pick 178) Andre Ellington RB Clemson 5'9" 199
    7 (pick 215) Da'Rick Rogers WR Tennesee Tech 6'2" 217

I was okay with # 9 and 13....I would have gone Christine Michael with 39th pick then Glennon with 3rd round pick.

Clearly no way to know what is a good pick yet, but your top 4 picks there are pretty strong! Warmack is a road grader, Eifert is a HUGE target with great hands and Woods is most ready to step in and play (Bills fans hope so). Polian loved Jones.

    My Draft:

    9. Chance Warmack - Gaurd
BPA in my mind AND at a position of need

    13. Jarvis Jones - Linebacker
Best pass rusher available and the need trumps him not being BPA, although he isnt far off from that

    39. Geno Smith - Quarterback
One of the best QB's in round 2. We needed to take a QB. someone with some potential and upside. it allows us to release sanchez. it was 100% the right pick.

    72. Brian Winters - Gaurd
I'd keep this pick also. Love that he plays mean and is a bulldog. And I love him as a depth guy since he can play gaurd and tackle. With warmack starting he has some time to grown and learn to play gaurd in the NFL and eventually start for us opposite chance.

    106. Chris Ivory - Runningback
I know this was a trade, but we know it happened so im keeping it. like ivory better then any HB that was available and love his size. worth the risk that he stays healthy IMO. he has some big upside.

    141. TRADE for 2014 5th round pick
I know, trades arent allowed. but this one isnt for a player and teams are always looking to move future picks to get a pick in the current draft. This would add to the stockpile we already have next year allowing even more flexibility and allowing us the depth of picks to continue this trade, trading a 2014 pick for a 2015 pick while still having a full compliment. this is something smart teams do.

    215. Damion Stafford - Safety
I think he could eventually become a starting safety, and immediately give us some depth. I like that he can rush as a secondary player as well.

tebow was BY FAR the best player on the best team in the best conference.

    how did that work out?

Milliner isnt bad... cant speak for other but i didnt want him because i didnt think he was the BPA and i thought we had much more pressing needs. The injuries scare me as well. He also played on a team that got constant pressure.

i dont think he is a top 10 pick type corner.

I agree with the Milliner pick. But obviously the injury history is a bit of a concern.

I would have taken Safety Kenny Vaccaro at #13.

I like the Milliner, Geno Smith, and Winters picks a lot considering how the draft fell.

Richardson was def a head scratcher, as i really liked Star's versatiliy in our defense. I also like Jarvis Jones and the need it would fill.
in full disclosure though, i knew nothing of Richardson, so i'll have to trust our evaluators and Rex can find a way to make him a 3 down player like Star would have been.

Ivory if healthy could be a good move as a 4th.
Barrett Jones or Franklin would have been nice alternatives.

Oday i'm lukewarm on. If he can provide real RT depth, then i'm onboard.

Campbell i don't get at all. The chances of him becoming the next Brandon Moore are very slim. Would have gone Rambo or Washington.

The FB is a 7th round pick so whatever. Hopefully he can earn a spot.

So overall, i really can't complain.
Hard to grade at this stage. If i had to grade tho, i'd give a solid B.

    1a. Warmack
    1B. Jones

The clear blue chip strength of this year's draft was O-linemen, so why not take one when you have a high pick, need one desperately and enter draft night with only SIX o-linemen on the entire roster?

The fact that the Steelers picked Jones pretty much ensures he will end up being a stud for years to come.

Can't knock the Geno pick at all because it was phenomenal value. Also like using the 4th on Ivory.
