I went with McElroy. I still like the guy, but it's clear he will never be given the chance he deserved.

Since he won't be given a chance, I think Garrard should start. He's pretty accurate (Much more than Sanchez), just needs to not force throws as much. Despite not having ANY good WRs to throw to, he's done relatively well. Our WR-corps is a good upgrade from the garbage he's been throwing to.

    This.

Plus I think Garrard will get hurt in TC, therefore get cut.

Okay, Tebow is gone now, so his votes do not count. Looks like Jets fans surprisingly have chosen a QB who has not taken a snap for 2 seasons and is more fragile than Chad Pennington. Interesting.

I'm hoping Garrard displays some much needed leadership from day 1, and takes it right away.

the players don't believe in Sanchez. We need a leader and someone Smith can learn from. Sanchez is neither.

Exactly. Hopefully Garrard has gotten healthy (he is only 35, it's ot that old for a QB) and can at least weather the storm in the first part of the season. If he holds his own let him finish the season, if he sucks and we're out of play-off contention put in whoever looks better between Sanchez and Smith. I like the fact that not only is there competition for the #1 spot but also the #2 spot is up for grabs.
I wouldn't mind keeping McElroy around, even though carrying 4 QBs on the 53 man roster isn't something I'm fond of.

He just needed to heal properly from problems that take a while (back and knee), but his shoulder is ok and doesn't have too much wear on it.
We have a good pass protection OL and a strong running game, so I'm sure he won't get hit as much as he was with the Jags.

Garrard. With Garrard starting, we'll finally have confirmation that the Rex/Sanchez marriage is broken. No more crap like "he gives us the best chance to win" as the offense shits all over themselves on Sundays. As Garrard is holding it down, Geno will learn on the sidelines. Hopefully, Geno can start mid-season or next season.

    ==========
Sanchez is NY is done. If he can be salvaged, I don't think it can happen here. Don't need him starting & then Rex getting too comfortable to bother giving potential upgrade a shot.

I don't feel strongly that Geno should start week 1 but he should probably start for the majority of the season unless the very unlikely event that Sanchez or Garrard lighting it up happens.

In effect starting Geno is a way to hedge against Geno. If he's pitiful and we lose a ton of games because of it then we more than make up for the waste of his 2nd round pick in 2014 draft pick value and also get in a good position to take a highly regarded QB from that draft and start over.

I hope Geno can outright win the job. I'd prefer that over Garrard.

I voted for McElroy, too. I'd like to see what he does with a legitimate shot.

I want the best QB to win. Let it be Garrard, Geno, or Sanchez. If either can work great with this new offense, then let the best take the starting crown.

Like others have said in here, I think Garrard would be a GREAT asset for Geno Smith. I think he could teach him some great things. Not only does Garrard have the talent, but he's been there and done that. I think he would be the perfect guy to sit behind for a little while.

By now, I have shifted the gear - from getting the QB that gives the highest chance to win, to something else.

I want the rookie QB protected. Period. That alone should be enough to rule out Geno Smith. That said, I am inclined to believe that, only Sanchez has the toughness to take the beating throughout the season. Garrard - no. McElroy - no.

Tebow is gone, so that's not even a consideration.

There, I said it. I want to see Sanchez starting for the entire season. (Healthy dose of ass-raping he gets this season may well be the best parting gift Jets can present him as well.)

I voted for Geno just because I'm excited to see how his skill set translates to the NFL.

The best thing for the Jets is for Sanchez to have an awesome bounce back year, while Geno gets groomed. I really do think Sanchez has the tools, he just needs to get his confidence back (and not be surrounded by scrubs) by having to earn the starting job through his play being better. I think if he can actually beat out Smith and Gerard then it will improve his confidence levels, and improve how the rest of the team sees him, and trusts him. I wouldn't mind if Smith gets brought in half way through the season if he's ready, but let's not throw him to the wolves like we did Sanchez if we don't need to. So I hope Sanchez wins the tc battle and is our day one starter, but only because he actually beat the other guys out.

I agree with this, it's best for our franchise if Sanchez wins the starting job in training camp and some how lights it up this season. I know it's far fetched, but it's the best thing for the New York Jets.

the biggest thing that we should have protected Sanchez from as a rookie was Schotty and Cavanaugh imo. Maybe he never would have matured into a good QB with good coaching like I thought he would idk, but it turns out he definitely wasn't good enough to be developed incompetently. If the organization is truly now on track that shouldn't be such a big fear this time around and the OL should be solidly above average this year with all of the new blood. Hill should be better this year making the WR corps not too far below average so the team should be 1 TE away from a reasonable offense outside of QB.

If Geno actually is or would become a franchise QB I don't see starting him for a majority of next year as automatically setting him up for failure. Considering the state of the franchise it seems like it might be worth the risk to speed up the process on evaluating Geno so we can think about going a different way if he doesn't look good.
