Everyone knew that Jets had targetted WR Tavon Austin with the 9th pick in the draft. Jets also toyed with the idea of taking Geno Smith with the 13th pick. It made sense since Tavon Austin was the most dynamic WR in the draft and was Geno Smith's go to receiver at West Virginia. Plan A Austin at #9 and Smith at #13.

Like the Jets, the Rams had no dynamic WR's to team up with Sam Bradford and also targetted Tavon Austin. The Rams made the Bills an offer they could not refuse and moved in front of the Jets and cut the legs off the Jets draft board. The Jets had 10 minutes to respond and decided to take their top two defensive players on their board. No one was happier than Rex Ryan in the draft room the moment the Rams trade went down.

Ironically the Rams later selected West Virginia WR Steadman Bailey who was Geno Smith's other and some say better WR. Bailey led the nation with an astonishing 25 TD's.

The result, the Jets are still without a dynamic offensive skill player. Idzik is a cap specialist hire to rebuild the Jets and get rid of high salaried players.

Just when you thought a troll was dead for good he comes crawling out from Under his bridge. How's that sunlight treating you?

So is the thread starter saying that the Jets should have given up multiple picks to move up one spot in the draft?

The thread starter is a notorious troll from four or five years ago the completely disappeared while we were a good team and has come back to kick us while we are having a down time again. This is his first post since 2008.

The Jets already said they were looking at grabbing Tavon Austin with the #13 pick if he fell down to them. But they were always looking at Dee Milliner for the #9 if he was there.

what an idiotic, simple minded thread. Schooled by the Rams? So if you are Iszik and know this what do you do? Jump a few slots up and loose precious picks on a retooling year?

I congrat the Rams, but the only people that got schooled were in Bufffalo, that pissed away the pick by selecting EJ Manual 30 slots before its time time. If the fools did not wanted us to draft Austin, they should have drafted them theirselves.

If you are a Ram fan I can now see they have bigger trolls than even Buffalo

I am so glad the Jets didn't get Austin and Bailey to go with Geno Smith. Nothing against the players, because they are both good players, but a franchise QB grows and becomes a franchise QB. Let Geno Smith lead the people he is given to play with. That's how you create the growth necessary to be a franchise QB.

And I'd have been onboard with the Austin/Smith duo on 9 and 13. I understand what the Jets might have been trying to do there and it makes sense. I'm still glad that the Jets will have Geno standing on his own in that locker room.

What troll? The Woody Johnson groupies will be out on full force. They loved Tannenbaum, then hated him, Loved Eric Mangini, then hated him. Loved Rex Ryan, them hated him. Loved Mark Sanchez, then hated him. Loved Darryl Revis, then hated him.

A bunch of old Jet Groupies flitting from one dream girl to another trashing the discarded girl of their dreams. Real Jet fans realize our franchise is dead until someone buys out the inbred billionaire owner Woody Johnson.

It is a sad state of affairs when you can read a dozen posts by somebody and know what everything else they are likely to post will say.

Go root for the Bills. You're either a troll from a Bills board here to harass us or a self-loathing Jets fan here to take your angst out on us.

So is the OP suggesting we should have traded up for Austin? There were only a few decisions Jets could have made that would've been disastrous, trading up in 1st would have been one of them. I have no doubt we would have taken Austin at 9, credit the Rams for goin up to get him, not much we could have done about it.

I'd say the mistake was letting everyone know the Jets were in love with Austin. I believe your GM learned a valuable lesson when trying to grab a top 10 player.

Actually I think that was our big mouthed coach telling Austin the he "had a plan for him", and Austin alerting the media. I bet Rex had some 'splainin' to do.

A five year layoff and comes right back with the same Schtick bashing the owner and everyone involved with the jets. Obvious troll is obvious.

The only real question is did you disappear because we had a decent team or were you doing a stint in prison due to your obvious anger and self esteem issues?

The Rams spent the 8 pick on a smurf. That has not happened too often in NFL history. It's possible that Austin will be worth the pick and it's absolutely true that he was the best play maker out there this year. It's still a scary thing to spend a pick up that high on a guy who doesn't look like he can take the pounding that happens in the NFL.

Yeah, he did survive just fine in college. The big players are faster in the NFL and the fast players are bigger. I'd wait to see how this works out before we crown Austin as the next Warrick Dunn.

I agree! Idzik's a moron. Why didn't he fix the entire roster already? He's been on the job like, months and all he's done is take the best player available at each draft position and get something for a guy coming on an ACL who everyone knew we wouldn't re-sign and there was a grand total of one suitor for.

Agreed! Idzik only had 2/32 1st round picks. A real good GM would have had at least 16/32 1st round picks

Austin was a dynamic playmaker in college. I'm glad the NYJ avoided him however since he is a 174 lb midget who will get crushed in the NFL.
