Jets needed a DT desperately, after losing Pouha/Devito and with very questionable depth. Ellis is still not consistant and he always seems to miss games with some nagging injury. Sheldon turns their DL from mediocre to respectful. BTW, the Jets were 24th in the league againts the rush avergaing 4.3 yards per attempt. If that does not indicate a need, what does? If a D is that bad, can you imagine how many 3rd and short big plays they gave up last year? Too many to Rex and the rest not to ignore it.
You're telling me that the Jets called other teams and told them they were going to draft Smith? Because if they did, they are idiots. It's one thing to try to trade up. Quite another to tell teams why.
This is just a guess but I think that anybody who the Jets called probably deduced correctly that the Jets were targeting Smith. When a guy who is in the top 20 on almost everybody's board and who also fills a huge need like QB is sitting out there and you're trying to trade up it is going to get tongues wagging.
I'm really happy with the draft as of now. Like many others I wasn't happy with the first day, but I've came along to really liking it now. I still wish that we could of picked up Baccari Rambo, but that would go away if we take Ray Ray Armstrong as an UDFA (assuming he hasn't been signed).
