i have not posted in years but i check the forum everyday and enjoy reading everyones opinions...but i have to let out my aggravation

we have not drafted a edge rusher since 2008 (vernon), we have not had a double digit sacker since john ab....

why dont we ever draft one? i just dont get it, even later rounds? we draft the same players ever year... a cb, a interior d-lineman, always a guard...and a fb who never sticks with the team... i understand rex likes his big boys... but I'm kinda tired of hearing that having big d lineman hold blocks to free up other people crap and having tight corners to hold wr's.... wouldnt it just be easy to just have a good edge rusher instead of scheming a pass rush

Antwan Barnes had 11 sacks in the 2011 season. Wilkerson and Coples have the potential to have double digit sacks. Still I wished we drafted an OLB who could rush the passer.

Agreed. It's potentially looking like another year with no pass rush. Wish we had taken Jones at 13.

We signed Barnes, re-signed Pace and might still be out in the FA looking for another person.

My concern is at TE.....I don't know if there are any notable FAs remaining at TE. Maybe Kevin Boss?

Totally agree with the OP. Why didnt we take a chance on someone like Quanterus Smith in the 7th instead of FB. Hope we pick him up

Who needs a pass rush? Name one good team with a capable pass rush. Oh, right....FUCKING ALL OF THEM.

    Brutal draft.

Jets got a lot of good players in this draft. It's a rebuild, if they don't have a top-notch pass-rusher in year 1 its okay.

To play devil's advocate, it looks like the Jets want to generate the pass rush from the d-line. A move to a 4-3 enables the d-linemen to rush more often (as opposed to a 3-4 where they have to generate lanes for the linebackers). As good as DeVito was, he was an utter stiff as a pass rusher and he's been replaced by Sheldon Richardson who is much faster / more explosive / more disruptive.

In a 4-3 formation, our linebackers are Harris, Pace, and Davis. None of them are great at rushing the passer but CAN do it. Schematically, they are free to roam where needed if the front four are causing chaos up front. It also helps to have a secondary that isn't getting regularly torched.

Damn didn't see that. Still should've gotten him in the 5th then. Lets hope Barnes and Sapp can do something then.

True, but it doesn't mean you have to actively avoid them as well which it seemed like what Idzik was doing. Maybe the plan is to tank and, if so, they still fucked up by drafting Smith as they could have got a better QB next year.

Probably no need to worry about the passrush. We are LOADED on the DL.

The Jets will most likely be playing a lot more with 4 down linemen and will be trying to generate a passrush that way. Richardson wasnt drafted to played NT or be a rotational 3-4 DE.

^Although he could rotate at 34 DE. You need to sub guys along a 3-4 line, he will contribute there.

between mo cope and richardson we will have 3 guys on the dline that will command double teams. lets do the math
3*2=6-5 olineman= someone is in trouble. add in the free rushers rex likes to send and i wouldn't worry about the pass rush too much. should look like 2009 again

Who knows whether he was "actively avoiding" them. Fact is, Idzik picked the guys he liked, and thats that.

As for Geno, we have no idea how good he really is, so who knows whether we could have gotten better value next year.

What do you want them to do, invent a player? The edge rushers they were into were gone by the time pick #9 came up.
