garrard, i believe marks gonna be a june 1st casualtly especially considering the ferguson contract adjustment. I think garrard is, if not close to, the perfect guy to start before smith takes over because of his ability to avoid turnovers imo...he's a smart guy whos been around the block, through a few systems. I'm okay with garrard starting the entire season if that's the case, unfortunately it probably won't happen because of david's injury history.
I don't understand how anyone wants Garrard. He can't stay healthy, hasn't played for MULTIPLE seasons in a row, now all of a sudden is leading this poll? Wow.
If I was a Jets fan, Geno Smith...Might as well get the rookie pain out of the way...The rest of the list offers no hope. The season is going to be wasted anyway...Might as well let Geno develop. I'd also add he won't learn anything sitting and watching the rest of the 4 bums...
I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here too because that thread got buried real quick: I will make a case here for David Garrard to start. David Garrard is the perfect mentor for Geno Smith. They are both strong armed mobile QB's, and I think it would really behoove Geno to sit on the bench a little and take in the NFL slowly, while studying under Garrard. The Eagles had a similar situation with Doug Pederson filling in as a veteran in a temporary starting role for Donovan McNabb who was just drafted despite the unpopularity of the pick by Eagles fans. Even though he only sat for about 10 weeks, he was able to learn a great deal from the bench, and McNabb went on to have a very successful 10 year career. Just found this video- Sal Pal explains it very well here: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9217748&categoryid=2378529
depends on what philosophy you believe in. Let him sit through garrard? (which by the way will last 1 season at the most)...or start right away. If i was a betting man my money would be on Geno starting by week 8
Let Gerrard start until Geno is ready or there is an injury. The first half of the schedule is much tougher than the 2nd half, so I'd rather not throw Geno in the wolves. He would benefit from the extra time learning the offense and the easier schedule towards the end of the year (if he's ready by then, I don't mind if he sits out the whole season if the coaches think that that's best for his development). The 2013 Jets look A LOT different than the 2012 Jets on paper. There has been a lot of turnover on both sides of the ball.
Whichever QB gives us the best chance to win week in and week out. That being said, at THIS point, I'd have to lean towards Garrard. Tebow will not make it to camp. Simms will more than likely be a pre-camp casualty as well. I see u going into to camp with 4 of the 6 and Garrard beating out the remaining 4 to be the day 1 starter if he's healthy
Whoever starts, I hope they hand off the ball. I fondly remember Sanchez's first season - we ran the ball and palyed good D and were one win from the super bowl.
don't forget, 1 of those bums had your boy beat in camp before he got hurt last year i didn't vote. i want the qb that wins the competition. i don't want a predetermined schedule. who ever is the best qb plays, period
The original plan was to let Garrard start..But once he got injured, then it became a true QB competition...
When he's been healthy he has been way better than Sanchez. The two years off have given him health. He'd be a good stop-gap while Geno sits for a year.
The trend in the NFL right now is to throw the rookies right in; baptism by fire. I say start Geno. Let him have his growing pains in a season where the expectations are minimal.
He has nothing. Four years should tell you he's not good enough. If he folds with freaking Tebow and McElroy behind him, what makes you think he's going to do well with Garrard and Smith breathing down his neck...?
