If you have not watched the post draft presser you can watch it here: http://www.newyorkjets.com/photos-a...nference/3dc56b5e-eef0-44ba-b7d0-a57b9415d8fb What is clear here is Rex is not on board with the Milliner pick. Twice in the conference alludes to his disagreement. This is surprising for two reasons, first, I would think that Rex would want a top CB but second and more importantly the huge balls Rex has to publicly oppose his GM to his face in press conference of this magnitude. What I would give to be a fly on the wall in that draft room.
I think a lot of people put too much blame on Rex for drafts. In the end, it's the GM's decision and clearly they haven't been valuing an offensive game. Rex is a defensive minded guy and perhaps one of the best in the NFL as far as that goes. No matter who you give him, our defense is going to be good. But throw the guy a freaking bone and get him some actual offense help. Idzik has set Rex up for failure with these two picks. Our offense will be bottom five again and a lot of people will blame Rex for the team losing even though he has NO ONE to work with on offense and you can't win games if you don't score. Say what you want about the talent on the field, but last year's record and this year's coming losing record won't be on him.
How do you know the offers? Did you see the horseshit that the Cowboys took to trade down? I would rather have the player than what they got.
what is clear here is that you have some comprehension issues rex and idzik seem to get along great (sorry to all those who are saying rex is good as gone), and rex is clearly happy with the pick, all he is saying is that it wasnt only him that wanted this guy, and someone else in the room wanted him more than rex even did. did you hear what rex said about dee? hes into him also, like idzik said, this is a deep draft, and they believe that there will be guys available to them in the later rounds. just cause they went defense in the first round twice, doesnt mean the rest of the draft cant be offense
I don't know if they were horse shit offers. I suppose they could have been. I assume most trade offers are at least somewhat reasonable and close to the value chart though. Otherwise GM's run the risk of not being taken seriously and being seen as clowns by their peers - which many probably think of Jerry Jones btw. If Idzik was being honest it sounds like the decision was based more on how highly they valued the players they were picking than the potential compensation. I am fully aware that he is always using "GM speak" so he could very well have been sugar coating a comment like "We had offers but they were bullshit" with what he actually said.
The one trade that went down around the time the Jets picked was SF moving to 18 from 31 and giving their 3rd round pick. I would guess the Jets could have gotten the same offer so SF could have taken Vaccaro rather than Reid but would the offer been better? Probably not much better and nowhere near chart value as the top half of the draft was so weak.
Only thing clear to me from this is that Rich Cimini is a tool of a beat writer. Pretty sure he asked the question about revis in like 4-5 different ways. Guy wouldn't know a real story if it was written for him.
Teams that were desperate to trade down accomplished that feat. The Raiders made a truly bad trade out of the 3 spot. They didn't want anybody in that spot so they valued the pick to be the 5 pick not the 3 pick and traded it accordingly.
End of the day though, the Raiders were apparently about to take Hayden at 3. To get the extra pick and get their guy you can't say its a bad trade.
Who besides the Patriots got good value? The trading situation was terrible last night. I'm pretty confident we made the right move standing pat, even if it's not what I wanted.
If the Raiders were about to take the 3rd best CB on the 3 pick then yeah the deal saved their ass. Really, this is the Raiders we're talking about. There's a reason they keep drafting up high and Reggie McKenzie isn't solving that problem apparently.
What is clear is that you didn't listen closely to the conference. Why when asked if Rex was a 'happy camper' would he say 'You can't blame this on me'? Seriously? That is the answer that a guy who is on board gives? Come on buddy. Then when he is asked if the mood in the room when Milliner fell to the Jets, Rex says "well, SOME people were happy". Idzik was bothered enough by that answer to re-address the question without being solicited to say that thee room was infact excited.
How is getting their guy and an extra high 2nd a bad trade. I don't care what some stupid chart say, Raiders made an excellent trade.
You can't take what happened to one team with the third pick and apply it to another team that had the 13th. Who was on the board that anyone would have traded up to grab at 13, knowing now how the first round played out?
