lol, so apparently Richardson is already a bust like Kyle Brady. People need to get off the ledge.

Straham, Tuck and Osi = success for the Giants.

Mo, Coples and Richardson, I'm not saying they're Straham and them but this formula has been very successful, you can never ever have to many good D-lineman.

Idzik, don't listen to our dumb ass fan base [I'm sure he isn't] keep doing what you're doing.

Has anybody even looked at what's left in this draft? And we pick 7th today, there's that offensive starter we want, it can be either the TE from stanford or Geno Smith.

Assuming we trade for Ivory and we draft a TE at 39 will you guys be happy with our offense?

This thing people keep saying that we need a WR is so untrue, A healthy Holmes to go with an up and coming star Kerley to go along with a big Receiver in Hill, I think our WR group is just fine.

Is Coples gonna stand up now? That's about the only sense I can make of this pick.

    He's going to have to.

but the most bizarre thing about this is that Richardson does his work from the stand up stance too.

Most likely not. Rex is a defensive genius, he'll make this work. Jets D line is now incredibly talented and versatile, get excited.

This is either going to be brilliant or the dumbest move ever. Three first-round inside-rushers in the same line (and no outside rusher on the roster right now); I can't wait to see this in action.

According to his NFL.com scouting report, there were times when he stood up and dropped into coverage at Missouri... Sounds like the kind of versatility Rex loves. Can't wait to see how disruptive that line will be.

His interview made me like him a lot more, he basically said he wanted to leave the Draft and immediately start preparing for the season.

Which is exactly why this reaks of Ryan still having decisions on the players we draft. If Idzik is already being pushed around by Rex as far as draft picks we're doomed. New GM and same type of players in the same positions that we've drafted before. Does this team ever intend on upgrading the OL? Do we even have 2 starting guards on the roster? And I'm giving Vlad the benefit by calling him a starter when in reality he has shown nothing to even be in the discussion to start.

I've heard this "we build with BPA' thrown around yet Warmack is probably about as solid of a guard that there is in the draft and barring injury probably a 10 year starter in the league but we need another CB who probably would have been there at 13.

Drafting Richardson doesn't have Rex's fingerprints on it at all.

No one can convince me that he wouldn't of rather had Jarvis Jones over a 3 technique DT.

If anything this selection puts him on notice that his schemes are not a priority going forward and he either needs to adapt or be replaced.

    Not gonna surprise me....

I watched this kid every week disrupt the best OL's in the SEC, constantly making plays in the backfield. Shel's got a non-stop motor and has unbelievable quickness. Hell, Mizzou's DL last year outside of Richardson was piss poor..so he was double teamed most of the time and still was a force.

He's gonna be a fan favorite in no time.

The quickness stands out to me in any piece of footage I've watched. We've had tons of trouble containing quick QBs and any RBs that get outside on the edge. As Mizzou said, his motor never stops. He could be a perfect compliment to Wilk and Coples. If he pans out, you're going to have to double him. You're also going to have to double Wilk. Our front line could be a huge problem for the opposition for the next 3-5 years.

It's scary, bc he does look so much like Robertson. He looks small, not really a big dude. I would have preferred Jones, and of course I hope this works out.

Either way, it's fucked up that he got booed by us on his selection. Welcome, to the circus pal!

If you watch the press conference, the last question was specifically about why they took Richardson with Star Lotulelei and Shariff Floyd still on the board. Jeff Bauer answered, and I've transcribed his response below:

"It's the athletic ability. I mean, his ability to change direction is uncanny. We were talking, and I don't know that we've seen a DT this athletic in...[shakes head, looks at Idzik, Rex, and Bradway] we couldn't think of one. They had him playing LB in one game against A&M, and standing up. You'll see a special athlete - his athletic ability, his balance - it's special."

Wow, just wow... who knows these guys might develop into All Pros... but as of now I'm hating this draft so fucking much! Time will tell...

PS Just to be clear what I don't understand is how does he fit here?

Lol, yeah I would have liked Dion Jordan in the fucking 4th round too!!!11!

Nowhere was Richardson regarded as a 2nd round pick, except maybe in your own personal Dipshit Digest Prospect Rankings For People Who Don't Know Football But Like To Complain Anyway.

    Carry on, though.

    My quick .02:

I was just as surprised as anyone at the pick.
Offensively there was only ONE conceivable player there, and that was Eifert.

I believed Idzik's claim that need would not trump BPA in this draft.
Therefore, as much as I would have liked Eifert, I was not expecting him to be the pick because I thought DT presented the best value.
However the DT's I was thinking of were Star/Floyd. Now evidently the Jets like Richardson as the best DT in this draft for the team.
Because I'm generally not an asshole, I am going to assume that Rex knows more about defensive tackles than I do.
Richardson was not a reach. He was considered by all a superior talent.
Isn't it reasonable to think that just MAYBE the best DT in the draft MIGHT be ranked higher on the Jets (along with many other teams) draft boards than a TE?

The bottom line is the Jets got a great, talented top 7-15 player with the pick. Let's hope he's a beast.
