Jones is there at 9 don't worry. There are legitimate concerns about the guy though. 2 months ago I would have said we would take him in a heartbeat in the unlikely event he lasts to 9. Today I'm not sure we should take him in the likely event he lasts to 13. I wouldn't write him off at 13 though.
I would go nuts in anger...we are rebuilding team you dont rebuild with skill position players. Maybe one I could deal with but not both
I don't know that Smith is who the Jets are targeting. I don't think any rookie QB the Jets could reasonably draft this year would go into next season with lower expectations for his performance than Sanchez would. I do think the fans would be an indescribably large number of magnitudes less hostile to a rookie in his first season than they would to Sanchez in his 5th season given what has happened in the last 20 games or so. Mark Sanchez is completely radioactive to the Jets fan base at this point. He's so toxic that he has the fans fighting about him as well as generally hostile towards him. While the Jets could try to make a percentage play and keep him for the year thinking that MM might "fix" him the downside on that play is real and rebuilding teams don't need players with significant downside.
People need to let go the prototypical height BS, Russell Wilson was also a few inches "too short" and he stepped right in on opening day and did well
I've decided to root for a 49ers trade to pick Elam and Ertz. Eifert is legit but I'd personally much rather see the Jets end up with a Guard, a Safety, a TE, and a pass rusher in the first 2 rounds as opposed to just 2 offensive weapons.
I don't have time for video comparisons. I am just not a fan of small WRs especially when we have 2 on the roster already and a QB with accuracy issues. Because the Jets are rebuilding, I prefer a pass rusher and and OL over a small skill position player and definitely over any TE. And the Jets are going nowhere until the QB situation is fixed and I am not sure why you don't grab Smith if he's there. There is no guarantee that a better QB will be available when the Jets draft next year. Planning to pick a player in next year's draft is plain stupid. The list of first round WRs under 6' was underwhelming to say the least. Austin may be fast and skilled, but I don't think he's the right player for the Jets at this point in the process. I prefer foundation players over skill players unless its a QB. And WR is not a huge need compared to other positions. A healthy Holmes, Hill with one year under his belt and Kerley in his third season (which is typically a break out year for WRs) is not bad compared to the LB situation or the guard situation or the QB situation.
Tavon Austin wreaks of Dexter McCluster. He's just too small and slight to hold up in the NFL in the slot and not big enough to play outside. He's not even as strong as Desean Jackson IMO. I do not want a 5'8 slot WR taken in the top 15 picks. Pissing away your two top picks on Austin and Eifert is stupid when Mark Sanchez is your quarterback. It's an absolute waste of time. It doesn't matter if you have Larry Fitzgerald like Arizona does - if you have junk at QB like Sanchez or Skelton/Kolb, you're screwed. The only position I want on offense is offensive line. Other than that I want defensive players - specifically LB and safety. Revamp LB with Ogletree and Mingo then take TJ McDonald at safety to replace Landry's thumping presence in the mid rounds, and a WR like Woods, Da'Rick Rogers, Patterson in the 2nd, and RB's like Dennis Johnson and Rex Burkhead late. I really like Vacarro but I don't think he's an Earl Thomas or Eric Berry type and therefore would rather load up at LB with Ogletree and Mingo. I'd love to see a front seven that featured Wilkerson, Coples, Ellis, Mingo, Ogletree, Harris, and Demorrio Davis for Rex to work with.
I truly dont understand why people cant comprehend that in order to develop a young QB, you need talent and playmakers around them. If we are going to draft a QB this year or next year, which is about 98% likely, how are you supposed to develop them without any talent around them? Everyone on here absolutely obliterated Tanny for letting the talent around Sanchez diminish, including me. Now many of the same people arent for drafting talent to surround our future QB. It baffles me. The NFL is changing. Its not the traditional "build through the trenches". Its great to have that, but if you are not winning the battles on the outside you might as quit.
So you want us to take 3 of the highest bust rate players in the draft? Fuck that. Id flip if we them. Its also clear that you havent watched much of Austin if you are comparing him to McCluster. I mean Austin might be McCluster with a cheetah taped to his back...
I ain't got time to bleed! LOL Just say that you don't have the ability to find what I challenged you to find. I already knew that. You still haven't proven that you understand how to define "small" when it comes to the NFL game, outside of height and weight. So that's inconsequential as well. "Rebuilding" is such a relative term, and also a crutch for fans that think a team should abandon everything they have been doing because that fan thinks they have a better idea of how to run an NFL franchise. Also inconsequential. This part is hilarious. You think that the Jets should grab a QB in this draft because they have a QB problem, simply because there is no guarantee that there is an answer in next year's draft. Even though the QBs in college are recognizably and widely regarded as FAR better than the QBs in this draft. I'm not even going to respond to that one, I'll just let everyone laugh at it. You mean that list that someone else provided, and you are now going to try to apply to your own pathetic argument? Have you ever had a thought of your own? That's right. You really don't put the tires and door panels or anything else on a Chevy, right? You assemble the engine, and then drive it. You don't need a car. You just need the engine. Even your previous analogy was stupid. You want to build a muscle car? Yeah, you need an engine. But many times, you have to buy the body first, then plan around it. Because a 350 small block doesn't make a Chevy. Let me make my own analogy. I bought a 68 Camaro last year. No engine, donut tires, a lot of rust. A lot of work. I tore out the rust and filled the panels, removed some panels that were rusted and covered them with sheet metal. Replaced the suspension. Got some slicks and got some street tires. Replaced the axles. Got that body painted nicely, and then sanded and buffed the body myself. Then all I needed was the right engine for that car. 500ci crate with a turbo and a 50-shot of NOS to spool the turbo. I did research on what kind of engine would make that cat run. I didn't buy the engine and then build a car around it. There's your perfect Chevy analogy.
Excellent post, if you don't think part of reason Sanchez regressed is because Tanny and Rex ignored quality offensive players than I don't know what to tell you. You can't expect to win games 17-13 or 13-7. You need playmakers and we have ZERO on offense.
Exactly. We are not the 2000 Ravens. We do not have that defense I we never wil, especially with the loss of Revis. The NFL has changed and we need playmakers... I mean we need at least one as a start, because we sure as hell dont have one and havent in years. People are still caught up in the same minset that got us to this point. We did the traditional "build through the trenches" the last 3 years with Vlad, Wilkerson, Ellis and Coples. We also built through the trenches in years before that with Mangold and Brick. You dont need the greatest OL in the NFL to win a SB. You need great talent at the skill positions. Look at the playoffs- Ravens- Rice, Boldin, Smith, TEs, Jones SF- Crabtree, Gore, Kaep as dual threat, Davis Falcons- Tony, White, Julio Pats- Gronk, Hernandez, Welker Denver- Thomas and Decker Us? Kerley? Holmes coming off a big injury? Cmon now.
Why do you have to turn everything into a personal attack? If you were so f@*&ing smart when it comes to evaluating college talent, you wouldn't be on this board discussing the draft. You'd be in a draft room. We'll see who was right in three years. Just because you like Austin and I don't and I have not added film does not make you brilliant. In a draft filled with trench players, I prefer to beef up the trenches and/or grab Smith as a QB. If you and others want to laugh at that, go ahead. When you are an NFL scout or GM, give me a call. Otherwise, act stop acting like you have all the answers because you don't. I don't want Austin. I don't think he is what this team needs. I am not alone. Deal with it.
