Theres a dash of brilliance. Sanchez hasnt been being trained to be an NFL QB, bu a former NFL QB, since the momemt he was shat out of the womb either.
what he said was he isn't giving up on him b/c he had one bad year w/ a poor collection of healthy weapons. 2 things about Stewart. 1)the AFC was not nearly as strong back then and Pitt had the 1 seed in each of those years in a weak division so he needed just 1 win at home to get to title game. 2) In those 2 postseasons he threw 2 TDs, 8 INTs. His defense allowed 10.8 PPG in those 4 games. For comparison sake Mark threw 9 TDs, 3 INTs, won 4 road playoff games(vs. 2 home wins for Kordell) and our D allowed 18.7 PPG all those guys have had good supporting casts at some point and none have done a thing in this league. As usual you miss the point, I was told Manning made those receivers which we know isn't true. peyton has played w/ elite talent since day 1 in this league but he gets all the credit for the success and everyone blames everyone but him every time he fails in January. Isn't it amazing all these guys owe their careers to Peyton, he does such an amazing job sept-Dec but that tricky January part makes those guys turn back into pumpkins. if only peyton had the magic formula to make them better in January? He was better than Eli in 2010, Eli is better now but Eli has elite weapons. If you trade Mark for Eli we see the exact same team results in '07/'11 for NYG and '09/'10 for NYJ. oh and he did beat Peyton at Indy in 2010, right? after Peyton failed to get a 1st down to seal it mark marched down the field in the final minute and set up a chip shot FG for his K- something Peyton couldn't do in a very similar spot at HOME in the '05 div rd.
junc, how are you so positive that this "elite talent" peyton has played with would have been elite without Manning? the majority of the guys you listed started either at the same time as Manning or shortly after his start in the NFL - not nearly enough time to fully establish themselves on their own merits.
did you notice how good the Colts players were w/o Manning? You know Marshall Faulk and Marvin Harrison were pretty good pre-Manning, right? the guys he had in Denver made it to the div rd and won w/ TIM TEBOW in 2011. W/ all that said obviously a great QB helps make his weapons better and Peyton has done that but he isn't taking Chaz Schilens and making him a good player, he's not taking Clyde Gates and making him a good player. He's been surrounded by elite talent since day 1.
Congrats, you hand-picked two HOF talents out of an otherwise collection of bums that would have been useless without Manning.
look at any of those guys, they all succeeded w/ and w/o Peyton. Again, Peyton makes them better but these were all elite level talents w/ or w/o him.
How are you making the switch? 09 Sanchez joins the 07 Giants for 07 Eli joining the 09 Jets and 10 Sanchez joining the 11 Giants for 11 Eli joining the 10 Jets? Or 09 Sanchez with 09 Eli, 10 Sanchez for 10 Eli, and 11 Sanchez for 11 Eli? I would say great talents and Peyton brought them to elite. They like Moss, Gronk, Jennings, White are all going to be successful, but they needed the QB to put them in the category of "one of the best in the league".
either or, both teams won on the strength of defense and their QBs making plays, the difference in all the title games was D/STs not QBs. Both QBs played well enough to win but the NYG played much better than ours. the QB makes them better and those guys make the QB better.
Sanchez is dog shit. If the new GM has any brains he will be cut at 12:01 am on June 1st. After he is cut he will never play professional football again.
In 1997, the AFC had 4 teams with at least 11 wins or more. In 2009, the AFC only had 2 teams with 11 or more wins. The AFC Central also had more wins in 1997 than the AFC East did in 2009. I'm not trying to pretend that Stewart is a great QB since he went to 2 AFC Champ games. That is you and Hobbes thing. not mine. Stewart was carried to the AFC Champ game by a strong running game and defense. His stats in those games shows that it doesn't take a great QB in order to get to an AFC Champ game. Yet, that is the major point from all of the Sanchez fan boys. Sanchez had 5 TDs and 2 Ints with 665 yards in 4 wins. Sanchez padding stats in the 2 playoff losses doesn't impress me. He was down 21 points in 1 game, and led the offense to 0 points in the second half of the other game. Sanchez did very little in the majority of the playoff wins. We can't ignore what he has done as a QB his entire career and only look at 2 AFC Champ game appearances. It is a team game, and other QBs have proven that they can make it pretty far if the team around them is good enough. That is not the kind of QB I want. I want a QB that can carry the team when everything isn't perfect around him. Not a QB that can be average as long as everything around him is perfect. Tell your buddy Hobbes that I'm still waiting for him to put his money where his mouth is. He likes to call me out for using his ridiculous statements in my sig, but when it comes time to man up, all I hear is crickets. Then the cycle repeats a few days later.
wins don't tell you everything. we were MUCH better in 2002 winning 9 games than we were in 2011 when we won 10. In 1997 they had 5 teams w/ 6 or fewer wins, in 2009 we they had 3 w/ 6 or fewer losses. Just having a team w/ Stewart as their QB as a #1 seed tells you how weak it was. The AFC Central had 5 teams in 1997, the AFC East had 4 in 2009. I sure hope they had more wins. Let's compare: Stewart 2-2 record, both wins at home Sanchez 4-2 record, 4 wins on road edge: Sanchez Stewart: 2 TDs, 8 INTs Sanchez: 9 TDs, 3 INTs edge: Sanchez Stewart: Led O to 18 PPG Sanchez: Led O to 20 PPG edge: Sanhez Stewart: D allowed 10.8 PPG Sanchez: D allowed 18.7 PPG Stewart: run game averaged 130 yds/gm, 3.8 YPC Sanchez: run game averaged 131 yds/gm, 3.9 YPC edge: even Stewart: high pts scored 27, low 7 Sanchez: high 28, low 17 edge: sanchez it's not close, Mark was so much more vital to out success than Stewart. w/o mark's quality play we don't see either title game.
If we didn't have to pay him 8.5 million nomatter what, I'd agree, but since we do, it's viable to have him compete for his job. If he wins, he gets one final year to get it together. The money alone will keep him on the roster, even if he's just a backup. Chances are, Sanchez will be here until the end of this year at least, no matter how it turns out. We should still draft a 2nd or 3rd round QB, though.
You like to say things like the AFC was much weaker then, but never have anything to back it up with. There were only 2 teams with 11 or more wins in 2009 compared to 4 teams in 1997. You are wrong. In 2009, there were 4 teams that had 6 or fewer wins, not 3. Bring the number of wins up to 7 or less and both years had the same amount of teams with 7 or fewer wins which is 6. The Steelers were the 3rd seed in 1997, not the #1 seed. Even when you take away the 5th team, the 1997 AFC Central still has 5 more wins than the AFC East did in 2009. Sanchez added 4 TDs to only 1 Int in two losses. We were down 21 points in 1 game, and he led us to 0 points in the second half of the other. I'm not comparing Stewart to Sanchez anyways. I'm just stating the fact that a QB can be carried to 2 AFC Champ games. Since that is the case, no person in their right mind would use that argument as the only defense for a QB while ignoring the rest of his career. I see Hobbes again, and still hear crickets.
