Seeing as there is so much misinformation out there right now, both purposeful and unintended, I thought it was interesting to look into Idzik's general style rather than trying to analyze every single pick he's ever being affiliated with.

Reading a couple of articles out there, I found this quote, speaking directly to Idzik's ideology, potentially revealing on the eve of the draft:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/25/s...html?pagewanted=2&_r=0&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

Rather than try and throw a bunch of educated (and some not so much) guesses that will in the end be meaningless, I thought it might be interesting to try and approach this through Idzik's eyes, as much as the information on him out there will allow.

I also think that Idzik is not going to be drafting at all for need. I believe that he is the kind of guy who (rightfully) is going to take the most talented/impactful player available, regardless of his position, so we may end up being a bit surprised tomorrow night.

The quote from the article is basically screaming Tavon Austin - can anyone remember anything else they've read that gives a general indication about what might happen tomorrow night?

Looking at Idzik and the Seattle history it appears he will be conservative. A number of people that have worked with him have said he will want to take safe players not flashy players. Seattle has drafted OL and DL with 4 of their last 6 1st round picks. One of the more interesting comments I have heard about Idzik is he listens to everyone but he wants to be the one making the decision not one being told who to take by the coach. I don't think we will end up with a situation like we had with Tannenbaum where the GM disregarded the recommendation of the scouting department and took players the scouts did not want at the behest of the coach like Ghoulston and Sanchez.

If he drafts like they do in Seattle we are set. That team is loaded at every single position possible.

Did you see Seattles draft last year? Not very conservative if you ask me, and they paid off big time for it.

It's interesting, because I see a lot of the opposite things (in addition to the things you point to) in the quotes from others and especially in guys like Irvin and Wilson.

It makes me confident about tomorrow that he's by all accounts (past and present) trying to trade down to get more picks, and also that he's going to do his damndest to get unique playmakers on offense, and pieces to a beast defense. It'd be worrisome if he was doing this without much history of solid examples because then you worry about the Gholstons, et al, but it seems like it's more like the kind of guy that has a good enough football mind and an open enough mind to take some of the risk out of the high-ceiling guys, and retain their high-end talent...

...or at least I hope that's what we're looking at, because that's pretty exciting.

^ What seems to be his M.O., indicates someone like Austin being in very strong consideration for one of our picks. I want him so badly haha.

Neither was Wilson in the 3rd, and then him beating out a guy they were paying a pretty penny. Thats a big reason why I look for the Jets to draft a QB- Idzik loves competition and the current depth chart at QB is shit.

I hate GM's who dont consolidate with the Head Coach

He has to coach the players so his input on guys should matter more than anyone but the GM who should decide where they pick the players

He had no choice..the draft takes all year to prepare for and he couldn't start the process over again in January..everybody expects Bradway and company to be fired as soon as this draft is over and Idzik will then bring in his own people and that is the team that will be running the show going forward.

Idzik has no choice. If Idzik wants to clean house & bring in his own crew, he'd have to wait till this draft is over.

So we have to wait till next year to know what we are doing when we draft.. guess it isnt the best time to have 2 1st rounders is it ? lets hope Idzik knows what he is doing and can influence bradway and his crew to draft who Idzik wants.

I know this view sems to have taken hold but I have still never seen anything to suggest that Rex (in particular) was steering Tanny or telling him who to draft, previously the view was always that it was the decision of Tanny and the scouts (though I can see why everyone would want to disclaim responsibility for those two picks) - people cant just point to the terrible picks and say "ah its all the fault of the coaches" without also pointing to the very good picks (Revis, Coples, Wilkerson, Mangold etc).

It is still Idzik making the call so we have to hope he knows how to read the reports which I think he probably does.
