I think something important to remember is that there's a good chance that there's a new head coach and new offensive coordinator for the 2014 season. That may mean a switch from zone blocking to man blocking (or not but you never know). The consensus is that Warmack is the better fit for a man blocking scheme while Cooper is the better fit for a zone blocking scheme. But which one is more versatile? Can Warmack still be really good in a zone blocking scheme, albeit not quite as good as Cooper? And does Cooper project as someone who can still be really good in a man blocking scheme, should that be the case?
I think Warmack is better but Cooper's athleticism fits Marty's WCO much better. So I went with Cooper.
I get that. But I'm saying for 2014 and beyond, the scheme is a total unknown. Assuming Rex is gone after this season, there's a good chance that MM goes with him which means that we don't know what the offense and blocking schemes will be with the (presumably) new OC and new HC.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 16m Jets HC Rex Ryan is a very big fan on Alabama guard Chance Warmack. Very big. #nyj So let's see..we show huge interest in Mingo, Warmack, Austin, Nassib and Jones. I'll bet the other top 30 have the same thing to say.
I really like the idea of drafting both. Assuming Star Lotulelei isn't available at 9, getting both would make the oline a long term force. Having a great oline is almost as important as having a great QB. We would still be able to draft a WR rd 2. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
well i did have the man love for warmack after the BCS up until about 3-4 weeks ago. now i am instead drooling more over cooper...... though i would rather take the guard at 13.
I'm voting Cooper. Did you see his pass blocking technique, it is the picture of perfection. He had those DT's on lockdown. Now, Warmack is the picture of perfection as a run blocker, but here is the difference: Warmack is really fat and getting to the second level in the NFL, LB's can evade him. Also, Warmack can't pull well since he is slow. That limits the offense's abilities to do certain running plays. Plus, the NFL is a passing league nowadays. Same thing as the Mingo/Jones argument - take the faster player because he is more likely to adapt to the NFL.
