    The "no trade" mock draft.

    1 (9)-Star Lotulelei (DT/NT)
-I know some are against this pick because we already went D-line twice in a row, but to me this pick is BPA. Reminds me of Ngata, and if he can be even half that, it's a steal. With Rex coaching him, the sky is the limit for him. His versatile is also huge as he can also be moved around if need be.

    1 (13)-Tavon Austin (WR)
-The biggest offensive playmaker in this draft. Jets are in DIRE NEED of someone to give the offense an electric boost, and this man can deliver that. People are against this pick because his small frame will cause him to have injuries, but his health was never an issue in college and I don't think it will be in the pros either. A Desean Jackson type player. Another issue that I've seen is that his ceiling is basically a slot receiver. To me, he can be Wes Welker on steroids once we shore our QB situation. I like this pick for the short and long term. Would fit the WCO offense as well.

    2 (39)-Larry Warford (G)
-He's basically similar to Jonathan Cooper, except we're picking him in the 2nd round. I think this guy is a lot better value than selecting Warmack/Cooper early on in the 1st round. Guy can pass block well, is a very good run blocker, and very athletic. Very hard working player, too.

    3 (72)-Bacarri Rambo (FS)
Would give us the FS we have desperately been searching for a while. Rex may not like that he isn't the most physical safety, but his ball hawk ability will no less spark Rex. A Rambo/Landry safety tandem could be very good with Allen/Bush backing them up.

    4 (106)-Ryan Otten (TE)
A 6'5 TE that could help replace what Keller brought to us, but hopefully better. I was gonna select Jordan Reed here, but Otten's 6'5 frame made me select him (Also, Reed may not be available at this pick). A good receiving TE that can block, and would be helpful in the red zone. Would fit the WCO offense.

    5(141)-Zac Dysert (QB)
Would give us a developmental QB to potentially groom to our liking. I think we're interested in him and would take him if he fell to this pick. Dysert had a horrible team behind him, but yet still played very well considering. Good height at 6'4, completed 63 percent of his passes, accurate, smart, etc. Would also fit the WCO offense.

    6(178)-Zach Line (FB)
This guy would be AN AWESOME fit in our WCO offense, and would be our FB for years. Guy can block, very versatile, can run with the ball, can catch, and is a ST ace. At this point in the draft, you take him here. Top rated FB as well.

    7(215)-Trey Wilson (CB)
    -Developmental CB at this point.

    Thoughts? Opinions?

This is a very thoughtful mock draft, my only objection is that it doesn't include a pass rusher. I would rather see Mingo and Lotulelei. Not that I don't like Austin, but a Mingo/Coples/Wilkerson/Lotulelei front line would be devastating. Sometimes it is better to play to your strengths.

I really like your second and third round picks. Warford and Rambo both seem like very good picks. Overall, I would say that this is a very good mock draft.

Thanks for the comment. The reason I decided on Austin is that the offense needs a boost BADLY. Mingo and Star would give us a hell of a defense, but we'd be neglecting the offense again.

For the record, I'm split on Mingo. Rex went on record saying he liked him. If there's one thing Rex does well, is find quality defensive talent. If we drafted Mingo, I would actually have faith he'd turn out well. But right now, I'm torn on him. I don't see Idzik taking a chance on Mingo with his first draft, but who knows.

This is a pretty good draft but as mentioned earlier we need a pash rusher, even more now that Revis is gone. The team has to get someone who can get to the passer to overcome the loss of Revis (and Landry). Not to mention the team also needs a new star on D to start the healing process over losing Revis. I don't like Mingo at 9 but would take a real hard look at Jones there if Jordan is gone.

I'm not sold on Austin so I would swap him for the best pass rusher available and would find it okay, maybe even one of the offensive linemen if they drop to this spot (including Cooper/Warmack) which frees up the 2nd rounder for an OLB/DE or even a WR if need be.

I know this was a not trading down mock but I would like to see your thoughts on one with a trade down as well as this one seems more thought out than a lot of others.

    Jets4eva,

You are correct that the offense needs a boost, not to argue there. Cooper is an elite guard, however, and I don't think that Austin can become an elite receiver. So even if LG is a less important position I would go for the better player.

Cooper also has the ability to slide over and play center. That's important because long-term he could replace Mangold there. Basically, I think this draft just has better linemen and would draft them instead of reaching for a skill position.

About Mingo and Lotulelei, it may be that Mingo is the choice due to his position. Not sure they are ready to give up on Ellis yet. I would also take Mingo over Jones because Mingo is more projectable and has a higher upside.

Absolutely no way I would take Jones at 9, or 13. His spinal injury will cause him to retire in like 5-6 years. And Jordan won't be there at 9 sadly.

Well, if not Warford in the 2nd, maybe someone like Barrett Jones. A good Alabama O-line man that can play multiple positions (G, C, etc.).

If we picked Star, then Ellis would be the backup NT. I don't know if Ellis can be a full time starter while Star has much more potential to be one, and a dominate one at that.
