I think we should look for a team in the 14-19 pick range willing to trade for our nine and proceed to draft Warmack and Cooper. Double O-line in the first round, we would dominate the LoS with an o-line like that. We don't need skill players like Austin, we are rebuilding and when you rebuild you start with the foundation..... the o-line is the for the offense and if sturdy the building won't collapse (metaphorically speaking)
O-line is one way to go. But not in the face of an elite skill player. The game has changed since 06. It's a league of match-ups on the edge. O-line matters..but not the way it used to.You must have play makers on the outside. Right now the Jets have none. Additionally there are good OL prospects in every single draft..not the case for skill players.
Man was he a horrible pick. Some teams had him w/ a UDFA grade. But their the Jets were w/ Eric Mangini in there ear.
The reason the Jets don't do what they did in '06 again is that the offensive line is not old and a crying need the way it was in '06. The Jets could definitely use another guard to firm things up moving forward but it's not like the line is falling apart at this point the way it was after a 34 year old superstar center missed half a season and both tackles looked shaky moving forward. If Mangold or D'Brick had gotten hurt and missed half a season or if one of them was 35 this year things would be very different.
I wouldnt be in favor of this, we need to score points, we need skill position players, hopefully we can sign Moore back on the cheap. Id be ok with drafting one but hell no to both, we were in a different situation in 06.
I would be happy with using 1 of our top 2 drafts on the OL. I think the other has to be OLB or a skill position.
I'd be happy taking a guard in the 20's if we traded down and appropriate talent was there on the slot. The teams that have taken guards in the top 10 weren't bad but they ranged from below average to above average with those guys. That's what happens when you use a very valuable pick on a great supporting asset.
