I'm excited too. 10-6 baby. We shut Serby and the rest up once and for all.

    Nightmare scenario:

Rex battles with Idzik and Woody, and ends up pissed this season and feels like he's being thrown to the wolves.

The Jets amazingly go 10-6, but are eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Rex refuses to sign an extension, and instead of coaching out his lame duck year, another team negotiates to hire him and gives the Jets a third round pick as compensation.

How is that a nightmare scenario?
Jets make the playoffs, get rid of a mediocre coach AND recieve a 3rd round pick for him? That sounds like closer to a dream than a nightmare to me.

It depends on what you think of Ryan, and how likely you think it is we can hire someone better. Ryan has his issues, but results wise he's the best head coach we've had in my life time. Anecdotally maybe he's not as good as Parcells, but thats it. After living through Herm, Kotite, Coslet, Manini, Grol, and Young Pete Carroll I like having Rex around.

What proof do you have that he had no control of this team last year?

Does anyone think Serby or Cimini or the other hater beat writers post here as guys like JetsFan, GRNYT, and TNJet?

this doom and gloom over Ryan's job confuses me.

If the jets (by that I mean woody) weren't gonna fire him outright before giving him an opportunity to work another year why keep him at all?

I thought the whole point was to see if this defensive wizard of a coach thats got a team with limited history of postseason success to deep two playoff runs a chance to be a part of the new goings on after his first real disappointing season?

Why is he gone as DR leaves? the draft hasn't even occurred...

I think we'll have a serviceable 2013 defense even without Revis, and If Coples develops into the monster pass rusher we all hope for, I actually think we're only one athletic LB away from having a better overall defense in the upcoming years than we had in 2009 & 2010. That's why I hope we spend this pick filling that spot.

In this NFL it's just too damn hard to stop big-time offenses by relying on great coverage and exotic blitzes. The rules are designed to make it very easy to pass the football, and they're designed to minimize the effect of coverage skills ... even great coverage skills. And now they're also designed to take away a WR's fear of going over the middle. Yes, we'll miss having Revis erasing the opposition's best WR week after week ... but knocking the snot out of the QB can work just as well ... actually better ... Even if it costs us a few ridiculous penalties along the way. It's about time we built our defense from front to back, just like every other dominant defense in the history of the league.

That means Rex will have to change his defensive philosophy.

I disagree about your last line there...I don't believe he has a philosophy other than to create chaos and however to do that with the personnel that he has at his disposal. Since he has been here he has had the secondary to do this. Now, he must shift to the line. As proven, over time, he uses whomever he has.

Couple of things to alleviate the nightmare for you.

First, by reputation Rex is not a battler and infighter. He likes people and he tries to get along with them as best he can. So I don't think it is likely he'll be battling anybody this year.

Secondly, also by reputation, nobody gets down on Rex more than Rex when things aren't going so well. I think if the Jets have some real fight in them this year and particularly if they do well enough to be in the playoff race you're going to see a very happy Rex Ryan as that occurs.

I think we're going to be just fine. I don't think we're going to be good enough to make the playoffs but you never know. Any Given Sunday.

If the Defense manages top 10, despite losing the D Coordinator, 8 starters, and all the leaders, Rex deserves an award.

I think the Jets will have a very rough Sept/Oct. The offense will struggle, and the D won't be as good as years past.

Uninformed fans and many media outlets will be calling for Rex head. They will hopefully finish strong on an easier part of schedule, but will that be enough to save the coaches?

I hope Idzik realizes the coaches will not make wine out of water, and doesn't knee jerk react, or already have his mind made up regarding the outcome ala Lovie Smith in Chicago. Assigning blame to coaches with this unexperienced and incomplete roster would be a mistake.

If Rex goes I'm done with this team. Get the man some players and a decent QB. If the Jets had a decent QB and not a turnover machine how many games would they of won last year?

lol i know. I wouldnt bet against Rex with his back against the wall. he will shock the league this year and shut everyone up. What if we sneak into the playoffs with the num 6 seed? rex gets fired still? i love how people are firing rex already before the draft even happened.

Very contradicting statements.....Rex has no clue about running the team Yet you have faith they can win 9 games? Can't have it both ways. Jets will need good coaching to get to 9 wins this year, even with a good year by Sanchez.

I have confidence in Rex to make Jets a very formidable Defensive team to get them to the wild-card this year. Excellent D will keep you in games.

Tattoos have a big impact on winning and losing in the NFL. I get your point.

If we get to 8-9 wins Rex should keep his job! Period!

I don't think Rex should be fired after this season. they are setting him up to fail, absolutely gutted his team.

Don't you just love these guys who talk out of both sides of there mouth about the Jets and never one word about there beloved Giants. I am so sick of them continuing the whole circus BS and trying to make sure they can have plenty to write about this coming season. I know many here want Rex gone, yet, wouldn't you like to see him be successful for no other reason then to shut all the clowns up !!!! Then have Rex and all Jets fans be able to tell all the media pukes to GFT.
