This is the issue in a nutshell. The NFL set Darrelle Revis trade value firmly at a middling 1st round plus a future mid-rounds pick. It's not like every team in existence didn't know that Darrelle Revis was on the market. They just chose not to respond to that offering for any number of reasons that have been rehashed endlessly by this point.

The idea that the Jets should have chosen to respond to the NFL's massive disinterest in Revis by not getting as much as they could get for him is kind of silly.

What other options did the Jets have? $16M a year for a CB? Right...

Good, opens the seat up for a fan that appreciates a team that knows how to rebuild and start constructing a contending team.

Why stop at Revis? I mean if the object is strictly to "build for the future" and "get picks" and "save money", why the FUCK is Bible Boy still on the team? Why wasn't Cromartie shopped? Harris? Mangold?

Woody didn't like being at the mercy of Revis, so he never even considered trying to resign the greatest player to ever wear the uniform.

And by the way, unless trading Revis brings us a top 10 QB, we ain't winning a SB anyway. You don't win SBs by stockpiling draft picks and spread cap money. You win it with elite QBs. And if you don't have one, you hold onto your HOF players unless they give you one.

Whatever dude we get from this pick is not going to win us a SB, seeing as there is not one even decent QB in this draft.

There is no reason to get on the guy for not renewing his PSL...This team's PSLs are a joke first off and it does not make him less of a fan for dropping them.

if you don't see the difference between a player who is worth a first that would be leaving the team in a year because his salary demands are higher than you want to pay, and players that may be worth a first, but most of which are not, and the Jets can keep them for multiple seasons (also knows as the future you are building for) at a salary they do believe they are worth, then I congratulate your doctor because your lobotomy was a success.
that may be part of it, but it certainly doesn't excuse how absolutely f'ing stupid your argument above was.

more stupidity. not shocked. if QB's win you Super Bowls, what the hell do you need your HOF CB for?

and without that QB, by your argument, Revis was worthless because we aren't going to win that Supwer Bowl. now you have to show how having a HOF CB has any worth to a team with no chance to win the Super Bowl, or more worth than any other player.

Garrard and McElroy are already better than el taco loco. and, as another poster suggested, we could wheel both the 9 and 13 picks for more 1st and 2nd round picks. could have as many as 5 unless we draft early as posted above.

You are right, you don't need the HOF CB if you have the elite QB.

But the jets with no QB and Revis > no QB and no Revis. The point is trading Revis doesn't get you any closer to a SB, so why trade the teams all time most talented player? If not him getting 16 mil, who should? Three separate JAGS? A franchise QB that doesn't exist and if you drafted one wouldn't cost you big money until after Revis' contract expired.

Basically we traded a non SB team with a HOF CB for a non SB team with Kyle Wilson as your starter. Yes, let's all rejoice!

his uncle/advisor, shawn thornton, shotgunned his way out od Carolina to the skins for more money. polihan chose to deal him away rather than overpay him.

so, the precedent for idzik was historically already there. polihan did get 3 different teams from nothing to the super bowl.

you can't trade compensatory picks, only your own.

wonder if we have enough cap room to cut el taco loco after june 1st?

we could go with Garrard, McElroy, and draft pick at qb this year.

next year, harris and holmes will be cap targets.

Lmao yes let's cite Bill Polians brilliance. One ring thanks to being able to draft the greatest QB in history. The second that QB gets hurt, the team is exposed as total trash. His buffalo teams also had a HOF QB.

Again, this idea of "rebuilding" is nonsense. If your efforts translate into acquiring an elite QB, then it's a job well done. Anything else is bullshit. So which franchise QB did we acquire by trading the franchise's best player?

Uh, what? What's foolish is not reading my post and then making leaps based on failing to comprehend what I said.

I was replying to the idea that a pick this year is worth a lot more than a pick next year. I was not referring to the specific instance of the 13th overall pick.

Based on his value as a football player in the NFL. Now try reading my posts and enough with the condescension.

Time value of money is vastly different, for obvious reasons.

he isn't the last piece to a tb sb berth, and we are not going anywhere as long as el taco loco and brady are still around.

as jack webb used to say on dragnet , ' just the facts'.

The dead money costs us around three mill in cap space. So we actually lose room this year, which is part of why we have been sitting on so much.

We lost $3M cap space on the trade overall. Revis was counting $9M on the cap for us this year and now he is counting $12M.

    His old cap charge was $3M salary + $3M bonus + $3M pro-rated bonus.

His new cap charge is $12M pro-rated bonus.

Do you want an 0-16 season or something? We were able to trade Revis because we have Cromartie. Why would we trade him? And get rid of an pro bowl center on a weak OL? I don't know where you were going with that one.

    You know what's funny...
SF offered Jets 3rd this year for Revis (someone posted earlier). Now they'll probably package their 31 and 34 for Jets 13th... They could've offered the same two picks plus a 4th straight up for Revis. The end game for Jets would be the same, but they would have filled their biggest need with top CB, even if it was for just a year.

If I were SF fan, I'd be really pissed.

So he's not entering year 1 of his contract this year? I thought his old deal was "ripped up". That'd mean all the other bs gets ripped up too, no?
