Shooter McGavin @ShooterMcGavin_ 9h BREAKING: With Revis likely gone, the Jets are going to move Tebow to corner. They like his ability at keeping the ball away from receivers. I needed this
all that are grading this as a bad trade are not calculating all the factors which were not under Idzik's control. it would have been different if we could franchise tag him next season and afford to pay him, or cut/trade Sanchez,Holmes, Harris next season and free up some money or even negotiated for a Jet friendly price.
16 mill for a corner. That's why. Think about other teams, those already in contention. TE 9ers have to find ways to pay guys like smith and Kapernick soon. The Falcons will have the same issues with Julio Jones. The Ravens and Steelers already have cap issues. We sure as hell were not moving him to the Pats. Tampa was the only team that could boast a good roster and the cap room to pay Revis. Anyone else would have to see it as a one year deal because they could not afford the 16mill he wanted.
I wish they would have gotten more, but considering (in my opinion) that Revis island had all incoming and outgoing bridge torched, I am content with this deal for two reasons: 1) The immediacy of the return on the major asset is incredibly valuable is something that a lot of people are severely underestimating. Regardless of whether or not this draft is "good", "bad", "top-heavy", "deep", etc., the fact that the pick becomes fully liquid in only four days is a major factor. Couple that with it being in the top half of the 1st round, and it's an extremely nice asset to procure. There's a reason why draft charts severely devalue future 1st round picks - I believe the same pick in next year's draft is worth approximately 50% of one in this year's draft - and that's because the team receiving the pick gets next to no utility from it until the draft it is in comes up. It's like buying a car and starting payments now, but not receiving the car for 12 months. The Jets getting a high 1st round pick that is liquid in 96 hours is a huge point for me as a fan. 2) The "no guaranteed money" contract that Revis got is actually a big time negative for the Bucs in my opinion. Yes, if he is awful, injured, or just not the same then they're not on the hook. But they traded a high 1st for him and are giving him $16 million dollars this season, so they clearly aren't THAT concerned, which means that when Revis is awesome he'll hold out next offseason for the same exact money, but with a boatload of it guaranteed. As a know-nothing, emotional fan, I'm really happy that I don't have to see that anymore. I apologize if this is a moot point because of something I haven't read yet, but this contract with the Bucs appears to be the quintessential "I'm going to hold out ASAP if I'm healthy" deal. No thanks, I've seen enough of that. EDIT: I see that his deal is predicated on just showing up. I still think it's a circus the first time the Bucs valuation of him veers far enough off from what they're paying. Asking him to take a paycut and effectively restructuring his deal is equally unpalatable for my tastes.
Elite athleticism, leadership skills and an improving player similar to Bobby Wagner in Seattle he'll get his shot and I have faith in him
Some people were talking up Idzik as if he was John Wayne, that we would come out of this with something like a 1st and 2nd or better. He played the hand he was dealt, but you can't blame fans for being angry and disappointed.
Everyone has an opinion and we see where you got yours. Personally, I'm glad the distraction is over and the Jets will have the cap room to not only add talent in 14, but to part ways with Sanchez/Holmes or both. Obviously Walter isn't as informed as you'd have us believe as the 14 pick will be a third, not a fourth as long as Tampa is willing to pay Mevis 16 Mil next year. For the record, Walter is worse at his mocks then Kiper. His opinion doesn't mean crap. Could the Jets have gotten more? Maybe, but I doubt it. We have two choices as Jet fans: 1. Accept the trade was meant to improve the team long term and look forward to Thursday. Or 2. Whine like a spoiled bitch and continue to complain about everything the Jets do. Same screen names are very consistent.
Wonder what number he's gonna where I doubt he goes back to #25 which Sherman having it and #24 is taken
Jets should trade one of those first round picks to get a lower pick this year and a first next year so they have ammo to trade up for Bridgewater or Manziel.
This could turn out to be a one year deal for TB. If Freeman gets hurt..no sense in paying Revis. If Revis gets hurt, no sense in paying revis. If they dont make the playoffs, they need to reexamine, since right now, the AFC East is allegedly the easiest division on football. Revis angle in no guranteed money is easy to see, hes betting he can make it at least 7 weeks into the season, without injury...so hes made money. The bucs, otoh, got the best of it, because at any point where cap decisions are set, they can force him to renegotiate or get cut.
Whatever makes you feel better. First all, overlooking the fact that Bailey is about to turn 35, Revis is FAR better than any corner in the league. Getting that money is SMART by him, although he is taking a pretty large risk by not getting any guaranteed money. Don't know, but it sounds like the Bucs could drop him at any time. He just THAT much better than anyone else, but he's not going to rob anybody with the contract he signed. The Bucs can wave good-bye at any time without so much as a cap hit. That shows a confidence in his ability by himself, it would seem.
