If the Bucs are a playoff team next season, you are looking at the 17th pick in the draft not the 13th. It's a no brainer to take this year's pick.
Seahawks are better because they have a stron #2 CB, the Bucs will need that along with a pass rush. I think the Seahawks Front 7 helps out their secondary immensely while still great they get away with a ton having a strong pass rush The Buccaneers are on their way though, they got 3 glaring holes and a ton of cap room along with most of their picks, they'll be interesting to watch. Thats the NFC I'll keep an eye on
This. The Mevis lovers think the earth rotates around Mevis and we should have used the entire $120 million cap to pay him because by himself he would win a Superbowl. But the fact is he was gone next year no matter what. He will ALWAYS go to whoever will pay him $1 more.
@JasonLaCanfora: Wrote last week about sense among some execs Jets could target WVU's Austin and Smith two 2 1st rnd picks post Revis trade. We'll see No thank you
Yes and look how far that got us, 8-8 with no playoffs. We had 2 GREAT corners that year, and they still had trouble on D and couldn't help the team make the playoffs. Shouldn't that tell you having a great corner is a great piece to an already great team, but 2 corners aren't going to save a mediocre team let alone one corner by himself? That's a simplistic way to look at it. It was either trade him now, resign him for 16 a year, or let him walk for nothing. An in season trade doesn't automatically get him more. If he doesn't look the same as 09,10,11, we aren't getting much back. Many teams would have waited until the offseason at the point in general. AND many teams would have been bidding on him as a rental only, not a long term deal. Hence as a rental, you aren't getting the 13th pick of the 1st round. The Jets made the right move in a limited number of moves with 2/3 option doing nothing for them long term. Would it have been nice to grab another pick, yeah, but it also would have been nice for Revis not to get hurt so we could get a bunch of picks. Just because AP came back strong, doesn't mean Revis will. Look at Derrick Rose or Iman Shumpert in the NBA, it's mental and physical. Rose is cleared to play but cant' clear the mental hurdle. Shump cleared the mental/physical hurdle back in Jan (after injuring his acl same day as Rose) but hasn't shown the same explosiveness he had last year. Yes today's medical technology helps, still not a guarantee he comes back 100%. We traded an injured player for the 13th pick in the draft and a 4th rounder next year. I would have loved more, but I always would love more. It was a deal that needed to be made before the draft and it helps the Jets long term. Idzik is thinking long term and I like it. He's slowly undoing the mess of Tanny's contracts that worked in trying to capitalize on a 2-3 year window of winning a SB
Because it's not like we have new GM or anything right? The second Idzik walks in the door, Tanny's poor choice flood his head? That makes no sense. "The GM before couldn't draft, so this one can't" Well by that logic, the Jets have sucked at making the Super Bowl, so they won't anyways. And getting to the SB isn't the goal, winning it is.
I never thought a team would give a corner 16 million, but clearly TB thinks he puts them over the top. We will see. They are in a tough division.
Bless you all.......but I now must walk across the waters of Tampa Bay in search of the Lord's riches hmy:
Not if the 2014 draft has better talent. Our biggest need us at QB and next year has great QB talent. That tells me that Idzik either thinks he has his future QB on the roster or can draft him this years...both of which will be mistakes in the long run.
I figured as much, oh well. Hope the next GM does a better job. Get ready for a few more years of mediocrity everyone.
There's a chance at getting a QB later in the draft, not with the first round picks we currently have. As much as we need a QB right now, we need other positions as well. That's why he took the opportunity to get the 13th pick this year
So who will Revis be covering week 1? Holmes? My guess is Revis will win that battle. But then again it doesn't really matter cuz TB will win the war. I cant wait till Thursday night.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/9197639/darrelle-revis-new-york-jets-share-blame-split This is an excellent read on the Revis situation. It covers most of what needs to be said and it's pretty balanced in portraying events. The Jets did what they had to here but it was the endgame of a painful process for all involved.
This marriage is over, the jets wanted a divorce from revis, they got it. The next one to go will be Tebow, and the circus will have left town for good. I like the jets approach, business like with no unnecessary distractions, I believe they will draft well and Idzik will not be bullied by Rex to pick players he wants. While disregarding the scouting departments hard work. Can't wait till Thursday.
Idzik is gonna build this team like Seattle was build Harris, Sanchez, Holmes and maybe Cromartie will be the next to go. He's putting this defense in the hands of Wilkerson and Davis and then the offense will go to whoever the franchise QB becomes(he's gonna look for his version of Russell Wilson)
