Teams get good and bad quickly in this league, w/ the guys up front and w/ revis and Cro our D could have been dynamic and we could have been a playoff contender as soon as this year if we had a successful draft. We STILL can but it's harder based on losing our best player.

Now we are using hypotheticals about a 3rd or 4th rd pick to move up to get a guy who may or may not be a success in the NFL? Bridgewater is not Andrew Luck, he is not some sure thing.

as of today this is all the info we have on this deal and as of today it's a terrible deal for us. I get the draftnicks love b/c we get more picks and all you guys seem to care about is the draft but we lost the best player in our history for peanuts.

Hopefully Idzik trades down and stockpiles picks to draft a less manic-depressive fan base.

My thinking is, a great OLB or OL on a rookie contract is more valuable than an amazing corner taking 15% of your cap space. Granted we can miss on the 1st rounder, but 2 firsts and an early 2nd are key to rebuilding. You think with good scouting/drafting, we could snag 3 impact players on a team that definitely needs some youth influx

When the hell are people going to realize that we were going to lose him after next year for absolutely nothing?!

Tampa Bay is a legit quarterback away from taking over the NFC South

Exactly, who will we take at 13 that will amount to revis, and if he does we will just trade him because he will be deserving of a big contract.

if they got Sanchez in the trade w/ those weapons on O they would be a SB contender. Luckily we didn't make the deal worse by getting rid of Sanchez.

The playoff teams that shocked everyone from last year

    Seahawks
    Redskins
    Colts
    Vikings

They all drafted a QB who became really impactful and good QBs in the league. That's the difference. The other team, had the best RB in the game and almost had a record breaking year, something we don't have or are getting either. So we don't match that mold of a team that could get better.

Now with an extra first to work with, we can buld for the long term

We would only get a compensatory pick if we lost revis - so you are saying having revis for this year (with what we have at QB) would be worth an additional 1st round pick?

talking to fans of other teams most of them felt the Jets were going to be lucky to get anything at all for revis because of his well publicized wage demands.

we may never see a Revis again in the history of our franchise. revis is the best cover corner I have ever seen and that includes Deion Sanders. We can't put those type of expectations on a player we draft this year or next year.

    Probably never.

People aren't looking at this logically. Did we lose an amazing player? Yes. But he wanted more money than a CB is worth. Our pass defense last year was great without him. Realistically, we won't be winning the Super Bowl this year even if we had him because we still don't have a half-decent QB on the roster, our RBs aren't very good, and the o-line is leaky.

2014, we could be an extremely competitive team if we draft right and 2015 we could be Super Bowl contenders if all goes right. We cut a lot of the fat and cleared room for younger talent.

No what I am saying is we have ammo in case we do a trade up. Bridgewater is a very talented player and while he can very well bust, any player(Including Revis) can very well stink from this point forward.

You can hate the deal "As of today" but if by Thursday he strikes a trade down deal and gets more picks to be added because of this Revis deal, surely you'll eat crow and apologize to Idzik. I will join your side if he doesn't get a trade down going to get more picks but I have a feeling Idzik has a sleeve up his arm to do this deal.

And our best player's(In team history) name is Curtis Martin as of this minute. Speaking of hypothetical....

When we clear out the junk, we'll be in better position. Relax. Wilkerson plays a position more important than Revis anyway.

Revis doesn't deserve 16 mil a year. He's a franchise CB, not a franchise QB.

Now that we know how much money Revis is getting from Tampa Bay, I think this is a pretty fair assessment:

It's pretty clear that we only had three options. Either we paid him $16 million which is just absurd for a team that is trying to rebuild, we let him walk at the end of 2013 and get absolutely nothing in return, or we accept this deal. I'm 99% positive when I say we made the right choice.

From another forum: If at some point Revis ends up hurting the Bucs in a game I demand the headline "Revis and Buchead"

The formula takes into account players lost who were then signed by another team and started for them vs players signed and whether they start for you.

So of the guys the Jets lost this year who look like good bets to be net plusses next year are Laron Landry, Dustin Keller, Shonn Greene, Yeremiah Bell, Matt Slauson, Brandon Moore (if he ever signs anywhere), etc.

So for 2014 comp picks the Jets are golden because they lost a lot of starters and they signed very few people who were starters at their old team. 4 comp picks and maybe all 3rd rounders looks like a real possibility.

In 2014 there aren't going to be a lot of starters going free agent for the Jets. Most of the positions are going to be filled by young guys under contract for the year. If you cut somebody you don't get compensation, they have to leave as a free agent.

So Revis would have been walking off the team by himself or maybe with somebody like Austin Howard or Jeff Cumberland playing on a 1 year tender who then went free agent.

The Jets could have chosen to sign no free agents who started elsewhere to insure that they got a pick for Revis, but why would they do that? That's just going to tie their hands in 2014 for the payoff of a late 3rd in 2015.
